HUGE SCAM...beware

I have been watching some auctions for a while, and I decided to do a little research on the cards. One seller had posted a large amount of high end cards of Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, Michael Jordan, etc. Some of these cards rarely come up for sale, so it was weird to see some of them more than once in the last few weeks.

After a little research this morning, I have concluded that this seller is a fraud and has been stealing images from other auctions to use in his.

In the example above he didn't change the scan at all. In some other ones, like below he shrunk the image so it would be harder to compare.

I just wish I looked into this earlier. He keeps on listing high end cards, so it's better late than never that I'm able to get this warning out. I will try to report this to ebay and see what they'll do. Don't be fooled by this guy!!

this is exactly why I dont buy high end stuff on ebay. You can never be to sure who the other person is on the other end.

Although it may be possible that he did end up with those cards, but with him using the same pictures as the original auctions, its fishy.

Personally I would stay away from him just from his feeback. I dont deal with anyone that has under 99% feedback.
 
Sometimes I use pics from auctions already on the bay but never for anything high end that is numbered etc... because obviously the number would be the same, But for other cards with no number no jersey etc... sine they both are the same thing I do use em.

BUT Thanks the the heads up here because this does look a little fishy

That's true, but he did go through the trouble of resizing some of the photos, which makes it a bit fishy. Also, some of these cards are really rare and don't show up for months (or years) on end. I don't think he had an auction up for a card that hasn't been posted in the last month or so by another seller.

Before I found the original auction photos for all of the Gretzky's he had posted, I was considering bidding anyway as he's only located 45 minutes away. It still wouldn't have been worth the hassle though.
 
Thank you for this. I won some of his auctions. I will be contacting ebay to see how I should be handling this.
 
There's still a chance the auctions could be legit. However, if you already paid just be prepared to file a claim with paypal. Maybe a concerned email to ebay or paypal could prevent him from withdrawing funds until things are settled?
 
He does have 4 recent positive feedback for items sold, all ranging from $100-300 so maybe it's not a scam...
 
looks sketchy, but if you look at his feedback it's actually not bad. he's only got 1 negative that was left as a buyer months and months ago it's just that he doesnt have thousands of feedback that his percentage gets screwed
 
I may be paranoid, but he did have a scan of the Hasek cards and took digital photos for 2 of his other auctions. Almost all of his current (and recently ended) auctions have "borrowed" photos from other auctions. Most are rare cards that almost never show up.

Only time will tell whether this is legit or not. For the sake of the HI members who bought from this guy, I hope it is.

While I don't agree with the snarky comment at the end of this statement, I do agree with the fact that maybe we're all jumping the gun.

His seller feedback is fine, albeit small. None of the finished items are serial #'d neither are the majority of his live auctions. If it's rare, it's entirely possible that he's been sitting on it for quite some time and needed to move it for some unknown reason.

I recently sold off a bunch of rarer Forsberg pieces over the span of a few weeks--should that set off the alarms?

It's getting to a point around here where there's a "guilty until proven innocent" type of mentality. Just wait and see how the members here who are dealing with him fair before we start the witch hunt.

Any buyers have an update on this guy? So far all I see from the 50 or so unserial-numbered cards he recently sold is one negative feedback for a Tiger Woods auto he sold twice...
 
well i ended up winning the 07-08 SOTT crosby SP auto from this guy. asked him 4 days after i paid when this item would be shipped out, he replied that he was heading out to mail my item with tracking and info would be provided right away. fast forward to 4 days later and no responses from this seller. so i have now filed a chargeback. he already has a negative in the last week due to him selling the same card twice. man i hope i get my money back
