Well after 15 years of collecting Felix Potvin, at a random moment several months ago it hit me and I realized I've outgrown collecting cards or felt I was too old to be collecting.

This was the best moment in all my years when I was able to pick up this Potvin Net Brawlers card and when I got it I told myself it will be the last card I will sell.

Well after months going by and me not fulfilling my desire to sell of all my cards I realized I must sell this pinnacle card of my collection to show that I actually wanted to stop collecting.

Well the time is coming soon when it will be sold and a little part of my childhood will go along with it.

Anybody else ever went through something like this?

Is it really worth selling that card? I mean think about it. Is the amount of money you get from it going to alter your life? You obviously put a tonne of work into your collection. Why move it? Maybe stop collecting from now on or cut back but its a shame to go that far and just abandon it all.

Yeah I wouldnt go ahead and sell it all yet, maybe keep it for the years to come, for the children for your children. You may live to regret this one, and you are never completly out of the hobby, you dod end up getting back in it.

can't say i've had anything like that since i don't actively sell cards but if i ever moved some of my PCs in the future, there are still a few cards that would be considered "untouchable" unless i was made a redonkulously ludicrous offer. and by redonkulously ludicrous, i mean enough for me to retire on.

I don't know its just that all my cards are just sitting on a desk. I really don't even look at them anymore. Before I used to flip through them daily but I haven't done that in months. I have all my cards scanned so even if I sold every last one, I would still have "memories" of them through images.

Also I have a lot of rare cards and I want to give some other collectors the feeling I got when I was able to snag a /10 or that rare card that only surfaces once every few years. If I'm not into it then I should let the collectors of his who are still in it the fun of the chase.

if you do decide to i have a buddy who has over 800 potvins and im sure hed love to pick up some of your collection depending upon price

Your Hollweg shield is not worth that much :owned:

When I decided to scrap my player collections, there were certain cards I had to sell to convince myself that I was done with them. If you are sure that's what you want to do, then don't look back. I haven't regretted the decision I made, nor the cards I sold.

Like Trish, I reached a point with my Spezza collection where I decided to sell. The truth is that I was just flat out bored with it. Other things led to me deciding to sell, but all of those cards I THOUGHT I was attached to? Turns out I really wasn't. I don't miss them nor do I remember half of them that were seemingly so important to me.

Mind you, I have moved on to other parts of the hobby, but looking back, I don't regret for one second selling any of those cards. Admittedly, I have kept some of the super tough ones that I know I won't have any issues moving, but you'll see once you sell, you (hopefully) won't be biting your nails to the flesh over it.

I saw it listed on ebay and it is on my watch list. I understand where you are coming from, as you know I was also a big Potvin collector. IMO his cards out grew my budget. All of a sudden Potvin started selling for 3-5x what they were selling for before. Heck his stuff usually out sells Brodeur and in a lot of cases sells as high as Roys. I sold off a lot of my stuff and spent it on comics. Its hard to do but sometimes it makes sense. In a few days/weeks you will go through regret haha, you will get over it, I did:)

I didn't realize that you were greendvdmaster. I bought and sold stuff with you before, I am Potvin-the-cat. Do you have a Pride of the leafs or any super scripts available?

I have also sold off a ton of my Iginla collection. I got bored of a lot of cards that were similar or just basic autos so I don't miss them at all. I can't see myself selling off everything even if I had to sell the rest of my PC, there will always be some cards that are untouchable and never leave my possession.

haha, the photo for that card was taken in the 1 split second where he hit Hexy and Hexy wasn't throwing. Kinda like when the Flyers show you a split second of the year's first Cote/Goddard fight where Cote wasn't eating fist straight up.

Hi I remember you from the Beckett boards. Thanks for your input. What you said was exactly my point. The Brawler card was the head and I knew I had to cut it off if I was really serious about selling the rest of my cards.

Hey,

I thought you knew who I was? I even contacted you when the Prismatic Die cut auto of his popped up under my EBAY id? Yeah Potvin stuff was getting to expensive but the most important thing was I was bored/outgrown my collection like a few members posted.

And yes I do have those available.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

Thanks.

J.P.

I think it got the spirit of the fight down pretty well. Felix tuned him.

haha no way. Potvin caught him with 2 good shots late (hey, he was old haha). Potvin hit him in the side and top of the head, but the only clean shot was Hexy, and he threw a lot more. But I give Potvin a ton of credit for giving him more of a fight than Chelios or...well, anyone. Still, a great card.

Go to my site, there is a link there to the fight, Potvin got the best of Hextall, he certainly surprised Hexy. The best part is when Hextall skates a way he is full of blood. Hextall was lucky that Potvin tired or he would have gotten a better beat down....winner Potvin.

I don't remember Potvin fighting anyone else, but I never followed his career. I don't know, it may be the Flyers love in me, but I can't really see where Potvin caught him with a clean one, mostly the top and side whereas Hextall really cracks him at 0:25 I know Hexy was cut, but it was above the eye I think...not sure where he's "full of blood." As for tiring, Potvin buries his head at 33 seconds and Hexy keeps throwing (not landing anything clean unles he hits when you can only see hsi back) until Potvin tries 2 shots underneath. Not like either guy really stopped until they were both done. A great fight to watch.
