ITG Patch Fake (BTP card)

I'll be intrigued to see what comes of this. It'd be nice if SOMEONE could hold the forgers' feet to the fire. As I understand one aspect of the problem though, the real hurdle comes from getting eBay to cooperate by acting appropriately when the listings surface.

It will be interesting to see if eBay will do anything nowadays. They used to routinely shut down auctions with documented fake patches, but haven't done so for a couple of years.

Brian, if you would like, I have the name and email address of eBay's Global Director of Asset Protection. He deals primarily in knock-offs and stolen property, but he may be able to assist with this matter. PM me if you would like his info.

For the sake of some person "possibily" buying the card, I hope that Ebay does do something in this matter. However, by pulling the card from auction, Ebay won't be able to get their cut from the auction...so let the auction run..

Firstly, I would like to thank the gentleman who listed the card on eBay and subsequently removed it.

He bought the card and when I contacted him with my concerns, he immediately removed the auction.

I appreciate this very much.

Although we cannot respond to each and every time a collector thinks a card has been altered, I would like to thank HI members for bringing this to my attention. As I said in an earlier post, it is a serious issue and should be dealt with as such.

I bet he was a bit surprised to hear from you! Did you say "I am the owner of the company that makes that card and its a fake" That would surprise me!

I hate to beat a dead horse..........but I'll say it again "ITG is the best! Always concerned for the collector."

Nice job to all...for bringing the card to our attention.......and for Dr. Price addressing it quickly! Great work!!!

I missed it, did someone save a pic or can at least tell me what card it was.

Can't remember the player but it was from the 07/08 Mask jersey cards out of BTP. Instead of having a jersey swatch it was a part of a label (much like they use in the artifacts 1/1 tag cards). Pretty obvious it was out of place.

Was Hasek. I pulled the same card today oddly enough. Plain red jersey.

There's something about this seller that's very fishy here. I've been following A LOT of these fake patchers on eBay and have noticed that when a seller takes the pics off his auction after it immediately sells......sonethings up!!! I also checked his past auctions and guess again, all his pics have been removed immediately after the auction ends.
This guy is 100% fishy and definitely somethings up. There's NO good reason anyone would immediately take the pic of their completed auction as soon as it ends unless something sketchy is going on!!! The ONLY people who seem to be doing this (taking the pic of the card off the completed auction) are the fake patchers. Beware of this guy.....

Don't let this guy fool you Doc.....somethings up here!!!

But Dr. Price never actually said it was fake...... did he?? He must have looked into it, but I didn't see him actually discount it...

I personally don't remove scans right away after an auction ends, but the next time I have a chance to do so (while uploading something or working on my page), I remove it simply to keep my FTP server clean and up to date. I reckon the item is no longer my property once payment has arrived. Should be noted that I leave feedback once I have received the money, instead of withholding it until I receive feedback first.

He said he had reason to believe it was altered. I imagine that for legality concerns, he couldn't come out and say "Yeah that ****'s fake" because he didn't have solid proof one way or another whether it was authentic or not.

I can only speak from my own experience but often times when I am traveling for work and want to kill some time in the hotel room I will scan a bunch of sale cards into Photobucket and list from there - after the sale I have moved some of those scans or deleted them entirely which would impact visibility on ebay.

Not saying that there isn't something fishy about this guy but there could be a reason. Good for him for taking down the auction - now lets see if that card surfaces down the road somewhere.

There is nothing fishy here at all to the best of my knowledge.

The seller co-operated when I contacted him and has offered to send us the card in return for a legitimate replacement.

He said he was duped by a dealer and I tend to believe him at this point.

Dean nailed it on this one. This seller came up on another board previously for a bogus Tools of the Trade Patch. Looking at his sold items he really likes some of the most faked patch sets. The deleted pics are just as suspicious. Buyer beware.
