Sportsnet says he is in negotiations with the Habs while a Montreal radio station the Team990 says it is done and they are awaiting a formal annoucement. The Team990 is a creditable source in Montreal so I going on a limb and saying this is done...

EDIT - Press conference is set for 2:00 PM today.

Jacques Martin is the new coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Or is he?

Team 990 radio in Montreal is reporting this is a done deal.

Sportsnet isn't going that far yet, but indications are that at least this is a strong possibility.

I don't know what to think. I didn't like Jacques Martin in Ottawa or Florida, so I'm not thrilled, but he did have some success with the Sens, at least in terms of getting them into the playoffs consistently.

It's a done deal. Should be interesting to see what comes out of this. Does this help or hurt us in a potential JBo sweeps, and how does it affect the price of butter in Chicago?

And apparently Mario Tremblay will be brought in as an assistant, with Jacques Lemaire coming in as a special advisor.

Well, I think I just barfed a little bit.

Jacque Lemaire will join as a consultant to the team and Mario Tremblay as an "assistant" (not sure if that's assistant coach or assitant to Lemaire or someone else in the organization)

Also, CKAC and Sportsnet are both reporting that Melanson (goalie coach) is out and speculation is that Francois Allaire will take his place.

Doesn't Jacques Martin have the same problem communicating with players that Carbo had? And Mario Tremblay shouldn't even be allowed in the building let alone behind the bench!!

If the bit about Francois Allaire coming in to help Carey is true, that'd be just great with me. The only person better I can immediately think of would be Olaf Kolzig, who mentored Carey while he was in Tri-City.

The stuff about Lemaire/Tremblay is reportedly false... Rollie Melanson is gone but his replacement could be Phil Myre, not Francois Allaire, but nothing is confirmed about Rollie's replacement, but he is gone that's for sure

Well I think Martin as his faults, but if you look at recent hires and what is available on the open market, I think it makes sense for the Canadiens to bring in a guy like Martin.. He has tonnes of experience and this team needs a coach that will not bend to their waywardness and has no problem making ALL OF THEM ACCOUNTABLE, which is what I feel this team lacks in spades!! The Canadiens maintain continuity in the Management side of things which is very important and bring in a guy, say whatever you want, but he has credibility as an NHL coach.. I think it is a good hire..

I'd like to see Jerry as the goalie coach. Look at the last three weeks of the season which was a result of Jerry coming in.

However the media and non Canadiens fans would eat that right up!

you hired a guy that's a expert for getting knocked out in the first round of the playoffs.
