Lack Of 18-19 UDS1 Sale Threads Is Concerning

Because I don't use Facecloth.

That's about as logical as people on Facebook saying they don't use "feebay".

I use Facebook, here, COMC, eBay or any other place I can to sell my products for the highest profit. None of them are any less safe and as great as the member rating system is here, someone could spend a month cultivating member ratings with small deals in anticipation of ripping off members for higher end cards. This is a common tactic on Facebook too.

Paying/Selling with Goods and Services is your best bet. Or just accept Crypto and you'll never have to worry about a charge back.

Based on what I both saw for myself and heard from multiple vendors at the recent expo, the hobby is still alive and kicking. Facebook seems to be the new hot spot right now, its easy, you can talk directly to someone through instant messenger, pics are easier to post and there are way more people on facebook. There was a huge influx of new collectors when Tim Hortons first came out......and all those new collectors had to do was go on face book and search hockey cards and they had dozens (100's ?) of groups at their finger tips. I see all kinds of this years young guns on facebook...commons to the bigger guys. I love both HI and SCF and am on both several times a day.....but if facebook is the way things are going and my strongest option to find the cards I want then that is where I need to be as well.

I agree, except for one problem, which people are starting to realize:

With Facebook, there is NO accountability. No rules to follow, which means that people are getting scammed so easily that it is embarassing. It is mind blowing how many sellers won’t take Paypal on FB, they want EMT only. Not to mention how many people are just tire kickers. I have left a bunch of FB groups dedicated to cards, because they are either rife with scammers, or the only thing anybody wants is whoever flavor of the week is.

Huh???What does "logic" have anything to do with what I said?I don't
use facebook because I'm not on facebook.Nothing to do with logic.

Agreed BUT you can only get scammed if you allow your self to get scammed...." I only take emt" generally means to me sorry then we dont have a deal. You can also always ask for vouches. As a buyer it is your duty to do the work to make sure you are covered. The one time I was scammed on face book was for $10 in MVP cards for my sons set............I sent paypal friends thinking who would scam someone for $10.....live and learn but at the end of the day I chose a method that did not protect me and that is on me. I admin a facebook group with over 5000 members, I generally deal with less then 5 issues a year.....but that is still to many the number should be 0, but you are correct in stating there is no accountability at the end of the day if someone scams another member there is very little to nothing I can do about it

Forums may be slow but its glory days for buyers and sellers IMO. Just bought multiple vintage sets from a Seller direct from his website. Filled in a few sets from comc, sold on comc and ebay, have deals going here and found a great spot in our new home in Kelowna. Hobby appears to be live and well.

From my perspective the hobby is fine. It is just evolving as it always has and always will.

Facebook is a great platform for hobby community and its ease of use is unparalleled especially compared to the ancient version of vBulletin this site is based on. For the record, if we upgrade this site, we would likely lose our archive of threads and the hassle just isn't worth it at this point.

Yesterday I posted about 60 cards for sale in several facebook groups, and had 6 deals done within an hour. And I promise you I won't be scamming anyone or get scammed myself. Why didn't I list them on here, same reason everyone has stated above, too much work, too small of a buying group.

I now look at HI as a place to stay informed, do some informing, share our joy of collecting and our pickups with our encouraging fellow hobbyists, and stay up to date on who hates what about the card companies.

We have a great facebook group that is for HI members and a few additional trusted people. I encourage all members to join our Facebook group and contribute. It has its busier times, like when quincy posts countdowns, Ameet posts his, well lets say posts and others share pickups, breaks and other hobby tidbits.

As for Expo, it was busy and people were spending money. For me, in terms of actual cash sales it was my 2nd best ever, and I haven't missed one since 2005. I think the hobby is fine, partly in thanks to the flavour of the week collectors who are rampant on Facebook, many of whom are new to the hobby in or around 2015. But we should thank them as they are the ones who help UD sell out and breakers keep breaking, by overpaying for rookies like Pettersson, Marner, Keller etc.

Epack has hurt sales threads too. I don’t even post what I rip because I get the “I’ll just wait for epack” response more times than I like.

Ive noticed that people tend to actually post prices on their sales on Facebook more often than sale threads Ive seen on HI and other sites. This alone drives me away from many buy and sell threads. It may be one aspect of Facebook that is attracting hobby traffic. I find it very frustrating and time consuming to open thread after thread with no prices and the usual "Pm me for prices" comment.

I agree. Sale posts without prices suck.

EPack has KILLED the market for new cards. I watched people forking over money for the new Young Guns and I couldn't help but think that those people are just burning money. COMC will have reams of those cards in a few weeks' time.

Jeremy said it best, the hobby is strong. You just have to be on the right side of it. Holla to everyone who carried baseball at this Expo.
