Lafleur found guilty

I'm not condoning what he did but I think he was caught between a rock and a hard place.

Given his son's prior problems with the law, I'm pretty sure that he didn't have many options. Now, I don't know the full details of the case but is it unimaginable that given his son's drug history, that he could have told his parents that I'm going out tonight and "I don't give a sh*t what you say!"? What would anybody as a parent do? First, try to talk him out of it, of course. But what if that fails? You look for a plausible solution that would put your son at less risk and yourself more at ease. No?

I'm sure Lafleur did not just come out and say, "Hey son, why don't I drive you to the hotel to meet up with your girlfriend". I'm guessing that he thought what he did was for the best. What other option did he have? Let him roam the streets (if he really wanted to get out of the house)? Call the cops?

What would anybody here as a parent do? I tend to think that I would have done the same in order to do protect my son.
 
I think with all the troubles in the world, with the economy and "real crime" wasting taxpayer money putting Guy LaFleur on trial for taking his son to a hotel is pathetic. The prosecutor should be fired. He'll get a fine and a slap on the wrist. If sent to jail, what purpose would that serve? I mean, give me a freakin break?!

I don't believe that's the big issue...I think, and i'm not sure, but I think the major issue is that he lied about driving his son around after curfew in court.

In all fact, he did lie in court and that is a punishable offense.
But if you compare him to the average person who was just trying to protect his son in the same way would likely receive a sentence of a fine, community service, probabtion, etc.

As for the term phrase "Could face up to 14 years in prison" is all media-hype to sell newspapers.
I would be incredibly shocked if he even got house arrest, let alone prison time.
Considering he is an upstanding member of society, my guess would be a fine.

Well reguardless if he was trying to help his son or not he did a crime.....In court there is no gray area....You either did it or you didn't....With that said for some reason the court usually tries to throw the book at the famous to "send a message" saying that these people are not untouchable....With all these points factored in I still can't see the guy getting any jail time for this crime.....30 days at the max....A fine and probation more likely....

I hear you on that. I'm just trying to explain his reasoning whether right or wrong.

A parent's basic instinct is to jump on the grenade to protect their loved ones.

Oh of course....You can't blame the guy for having morals....Unfortunately "doing the right thing" doesn't always mean you're doing the right thing...I'm sure we've all been there before.

Well, if he does go inside, we'll know the answer to the question "where did UD get an orange Lafleur swatch from?"

I'll be waiting for a 1/1 sharpened toothbrush "Property Of" card.

Total waste of money indeed, if your familliar whit the Quebec justice system, they dont have enough place in prison. Everything below first degree murder, you do 1/6 of your time and your free to go if you behave properlly in jail.

Good to know. If I ever need to refocus my career on a life of crime, I should learn French.:D
