Major Sidney Crosby collection on Ebay auction

Just what I had in mind. These days single color is safe choice....

Perhaps surprisingly, there are very few repatched Crosby Cup RCs. Repatching those cards just isn't worth taking a chance on. A 1 color is a $5000 card as it is. Ovechkin was a bit more popular when it came to repatched Cup RCs. I was just thinking of this the other day. Since 05/06 The only player that has had an obvious problem with repatched Cup RCs is Patrick Kane. Each of his /99 and /88 have at least 5 cards that were repatched. Must be something to do with the nice Chicago patches? For those of you wondering, I have done extensive work in this area (please see my cup rc archive link in my signature!).

Good point, imagine taking a knife to a $5000 piece of cardboard... or whatever it is they do to repatch

The people who repatch cards have it down to a science. I am sure there are a few repatch Crosbys out there. I know there is a lack of proof on my part but I find it amazing there aren't more and bigger skeptics due to multiple know patch fakers on ebay.

I only own one Weber The Cup RC cause of this. It was from one of Logopatchcards breaks. I would like to own more but I don't trust them.

If Crosby don't return by the beginning of the season his cards will drop. I have been collecting for 30+ years and they always do. They did for Gretzky, Lemieux etc...they will also for Crosby. People will move on to the new next best thing that's part of the hobby. If he returns again they will get hot again. The hobby is full of hot n cold and ups and downs.

I always question these auctions for higher end cards, where the bidders ID's are hidden. There's no way to check for shill bidders and the seller has free rein to do almost anything. For all we know, the high bid will mysteriously fall thru' and someone else down the line will be offered the lot at a "reduced" price, with the lot sold off the bay and w/o any ebay sale fee being paid.

crazy amount of money even if some really nice cards but that high price geez thats just insane for cards...

I think its worth it. Imagine all the time and effort the original collector put into this collection? All those cards are graded by BGS, which I don't care for personally but it seems to be one of the industries highest standards which most buyers/collectors go by/for.

In the end its all about risk/reward-investment or a player collector who saw an opportunity to purchase multiple items without the restrain of wasting time "hunting" down rare sought after cards...and he sure had the money for it.

I would really like to see how Crosby comes back...aside from hockey cards.
