I can also confirm he was in Vegas with Stoll and a number of the Kings the weekend Stoll was arrested.
 
If the OC is in pill format and he has a prescription, I don't see how he would be in any real legal predicaments.

Before jumping to conclusions, I will wait until more credible reports come in that explain the situation better.

I agree with this completely. It should be noted that he hasn't been charged with anything at this time. However, if it was completely above board, I'm not quite sure why it became an issue at the border. I wonder if it's as simple as he didn't have the prescription with him.

And if that's the case, methinks the Kings are screwed.

Interesting that the King didn't want to void the Slava Voynov contract, I guess the money wasn't big enough and they still want him even though what he allegedly did was much worse IMO.

If the Kings knew about the oxy thing (gee, wonder where he would have become addicted to them...), then Richards will get every penny owed to him. If he has a perscription with a team doctors sig on them the Kings have no leg to stand on.

Will be interesting to see what comes out of this, but on the surface it looks like the Kings are looking for any excuse to rid themselves of a huge dud contract. Classy organization.
 
Really we have no true answer on what happened . Maybe there was a stipulation in his contract? until all the information comes out we don't know what the reason for his release was.
 
We don't know all the details so can't really comment on the specific situation with the Kings. All I will say is I am not a big fan of Richards or anything, but if this is a situation with a prescription med, I have a lot of sympathy for the guy. I, like many, forget these guys are human beings and not just million dollar super heroes that are invincible. Richards has always played a "heavy" game since he was young and these guys all beat their body to a pulp. I would bet he wasn't introduced to the sickening world of pain killers until a team trainer or doctor introduced them into his life at some point. They probably didn't educate him on the dangers of these heroin in pill form death tools either. Pain killers are a multi-billion dollar business with huge financial kickbacks to the government and doctors who push these on people every chance they get. The statistics in the U.S. are staggering in how many of these pills get handed out like candy. Pro athletes are given these pills all the time because as we all know it's a business and you have to play and win at any cost. You're hurt? No problem, pop a few of these and you can play through it no problem. Look at how many hockey players alone have been lost to suicide and death and the common thread is usually prescription pain killers and depression. Gee, I wonder why. Look at what Richards went through this last year, that's enough to push the strongest man over the edge.

If this is the case with Richards, I pray he finds the strength to fight his way out of it and get his career back on track. I wish the government would crack down on these pill pushing death farmers, but they are making too much money from the pill manufacturers to care.

Lots of negative in the media these days over athletes, some deserved, some not. I think it's important to realize these guys live under a microscope and that this is a human being and how an event like this can negatively impact their life.
 
I'm waiting to see how this plays out before passing judgement on his current situation. That aside, I CAN judge him no what he DID do and that is help LA win their only 2 Stanley Cups. Thanks Rick for the clutch play and good times in LA, best of luck here on out.:beer:
