People need to stop reading stats they are not what make a player. I have watched EVERY single game Luongo has played as a canuck (even a few exhibition) and I have only seen the goalie on the other end of the rink outplay him a handful of times. The Canucks get outplayed constantly but not luongo.

If the canucks were to put luongo on the trading block we could get a top 2 forward and up and comer and multiple picks.
Luongo is an ELITE goaltender and it is unarguable, circumstances made him have a slight drop in numbers this season but he is one of the best.
Just you see who will be between the pipes at the 2010 Olympics.

Of the goalies listed I would say none are better then Luongo but a few are at the same level, Brodeur, Turco and Kippersoff are Elite netminders and can carry teams on their backs. All of the other goalies you listed are on a level benaeath him. Lundqvist has potential but look at the scoring power in front of him.

You take luongo away from the canucks and they are the WORST team in the NHL, worse then Tampa or LA.

Pretty sure Nabokov carried the Sharks quite a few games this year. Yes, Luongo and Iginla are over rated.

I don't really agree with C.Price being overratted either...sure there is hype as with Ovechkin and Crosby but this is his rookie season and he is in the second round of the playoffs...
I can agree that anyone comparing Price to Roy is crazy...one is a rookie with 1 playoff series under his belt and the other is a retired HOF with a few cup rings and I imagine some other "hardware"...

Why do people always want to compare rookies to the elite?
The only reason to mention an elite goaltender and Price is 20 years from now IF he continues to play well to deserve induction into the HOF and is in reference to joining them in the HOF

Cmon, before this year NO ONE publically gave him ANY love. He has been a solid forward and playmaker for many years. If anything he is very underrated, much like Adam Oates was.

I will admit that my opinion of Savard has changed a bit this year for the better. He seems to be working a lot harder for the B's than he ever did anywhere else.

However, having seen him play quite a bit, even when he was racking up all of those points I was never very impressed with him. There is a reason he has bounced around so much despite these high point totals.
 
Ill say Sundin is .....Leaf fans wil disagree but he has never lead that team anywhere and recently it was brought up that when gary Roberts was there guys in the lockerroom looked up to him more in the playoffs than Mats

Consistency has a lot to do with how great you are. And I'd say Roberto has consistently missed the playoffs his whole career. Guys like Kipper, Turco, and Giguere get their teams in on a regular basis and aren't rated as high as Luongo.

So because Steve Penney took the Habs deep into the playoffs, he's a better goalie? Or Patrick Lalime? :crazy:

What it comes down to, Chris, is that Luongo IS consistent... it's the players in front of him that aren't. Lu gave the team a chance to win in 71 of 73 games, and if the team had scored 1 extra goal in 1/4 of the games they played, we'd be debating on whether the Canucks would take out San Jose right now. When you watch him as often as I do, you realize how amazing a player he is. Yes, I'm biased, but holy damn dude... the saves he makes.

May I suggest that you get out a little more often then.......

What has Iginla provided to his team? Three years straight bounced in the first round. I did say he was a good hockey player, but nothing all that special. He has proven that he is not able to carry the team on his shoulders.
I personally think that he is too nice of a guy and for that reason he does not garner the respect of some of his teammates. He backs away too easily (not in a game situation, but in the locker room).

And yes, I am an Oiler's fan but that has nothing to do with this.

He's a quiet playmaker, guys like him don't generate a lot of attention.

I've been fortunate enough to be able to keep an eye on him since he was with the Gens, and I will agree that he likely will not make you jump out of your seat, nor can he really put the puck in the net like so many other stars in today's game. He is being hailed as a star in Boston now and it may be a little over-hyped, but he's been playing at the same caliber for a while and no one has even noticed.

He has outstanding passing ability, great vision and is a pure team player. He was a fourth round pick and has been averaging over a point per game every year since the 03-04 season. To me, that is the sign of a draft steal. I am glad he just got his first all-star selection. The attention he is getting now is long overdue.

I can see the point you are making and it is noted. If Marc were playing in Detroit or San Jose or another high scoring team, I might not be making a case for him right now. But he's in Boston. Does he deserve to be marked as Boston's star player? Absolutely! He's their top scorer and playmaker and has been for the two years he's been there. He's a team player and without him, I don't think the Bruins would have even made the playoffs this season.

Man you are either crazy, on drugs or don't know anything about Calgary or Iginla. This year in the playoffs Iginla was pretty much the only forward that did anything, if it wasn't for him and Kipper they wouldn't even made made it to Game 7. And if you think he doesn't have the respect of his teammates, again, you don't know much about the Flames. Iggy is one of the most respected players in the game period. And how do you know he backs away in the locker room, are you in there with the team?

What has Iginla proved to his team? He is only their leader and their best player but he's nothing special, right....... :crazy:

Iginla commands the respect of his teammates. Trust me on that.

I just want to make sure I got your argument straight. For the sole reason that he has not been able to take his team to the Cup finals (and win) that he is not worthy of the praise he is given?

By that logic, players like Marcel Dionne, Gilbert Perreault and Pat LaFontaine would fall into the same boat of being over-rated. They were all star forwards and could not lead any of their teams to win the Cup, but they are definately NOT over-rated. In fact, all three of them have been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Winning the Cup is not the only way to measure a player worthy of the attention Jarome gets. It does solidify it, but consistent hard work, leadership and goal scoring is what earns one such a reputation, and Jarome has all three of those qualities.

Also, he is a nice guy, but don't forget he WILL drop the gloves if you piss him off.

Calling some of the people mentioned in this thread overrated is ridiculous.

How can anyone mention a Hall of Famer, or even better, someone that can't even legally drink in the US yet?

An average of 42 goals the last 6 years. Well over a PPG. Hart consideration. 4 straight playoff appearances for Calgary after they missed the playoffs for who knows how long. A franchise player and ambassador for the game. A Gold medal for team Canada (hey, you said "team"... he was a HUGE factor as to why Canada won the Gold medal in 2002). I could go on...

And here I was thinking the playoffs were a "team" game. How did Iginla do in those 3 rounds? In 20 games he had 11 goals, 10 assists, for 21 pts and an even player. It wasn't his fault Kiprusoff sucked this year or Phaneuf was a -11 in last seasons playoffs. If it wasn't for Iginla they probably get swept... heck they wouldn't even make the playoffs without him.

He has also proven he IS capable of carrying a team on his shoulder. How did they make the finals again? Right... Iginla scored 13 goals that playoffs. And while we're at it, how many guys have "carried a team on their shoulders" to win a cup? Sakic had Forsberg & Roy. Yzerman had Federov and Lidstrom. Tampa had the big 3. It's never a 1 man show I'm sorry.

Maybe you missed it, but just last week he got into a heated discussion with his assistant coach that almost ended in blows. Thats not backing away.

Oh and can you please provide me any sort of link, clip, audio, quote, anything that says he has not garnered the respect of some of his team mates? Just show me something. Anything. He's so respected he's an instant selection for Nichollson & Gretzky and the hockey Canada brass.
