New In The Game Survey

Hockey Survey

Please feel free to do a write-in if you feel strongly about a year that you feel is more significant in the history of the game. So far in just one night, the number of votes is impressive.

I want to make products that collectors want, this survey will allow me to do so.

I voted for the Miracle on Ice. One of the biggest, if not the biggest moment in hockey/sports history, and I'd love to see what ITG can do with it.

I voted for 1972. While I don't have the perspective of being alive at that time, I look back and see 1972 as being the year that galvanized hockey as both a North American and European source of pride. The Miracle on Ice still gets me teary, but if I'm taking the longview, I think it has to be 1972.

Also, aren't they gold medals in the Olympics? Silly Socialist Canada public schools and your unnecessary vowels! :D

Hockey Survey

HI Board Members:

I just want everyone to know that the votes will be tabulated based on unique voters, so if you vote 20 times for one particular year, it will only count as 1 vote.

I believe this is the fair way to determine the most significant year rather than let any individual "stuff the ballot box".

I hope you all agree.

It is precisely this attitude that is making me want to spend my hobby $ on your products and not those of that other company, Dr. Price. Thank you for giving us a voice!

1972 changed everything. It's a simple choice for me.

If you look at it, you had Bobby Orr at his peak, the Summit Series and the arrival of the WHA. The WHA allowed hockey players to be properly paid for their efforts. Also, the Broad Street Bullies phenomenon was dawning. While Orr probably wouldn't be in the release, you've got the potential for an amazing release. A lot of the WHA players have never had certified autos as well, so that's got the potential to be pretty cool.

What a great survey, It was tough choosing just one. I was leaning hard to 67-68 as that was the start of my fandom and the Birth of my Blues!

However, One moment in hockey that I will never forget and it still sends chills down my spine was the Mircale on ice of 1980

I opted for 1979 because it marked the professional debut of the greatest player of our lifetimes, Wayne Gretzky, and his impact on the game continues to be felt today.

I voted for 1968 for the birth of the Flyers, the Broad Street Bullies. The rivalary between the Pens vs. the Flyers has been a highlight in hockey since Lemieux came into the league. Hockey in Minnesota has been huge for the NHL.

I wonder if there will be a California Seals GU if it gets chosen, lol.

Not to be a buttkisser, but if there's any company that will do that, it's going to be ITG. I genuinely believe that products like different "Original 6", the various "Franchises", "In The Game Used" and "Heroes and Prospects" have gone a long way towards both the education and entertainment of collectors. It's the Heroes and Prospects decoy cards that helped me identify all the teams in the AHL, OHL, WHL, and QMJHL.

Congratulations on the Sold Out Bleu Blanc et Rouge Superlative. I am very excited to crack mine tomorrow.

I'm also excited to see what's on tap in the way of a Top Prospects tie-in like today's email suggested.

If it was vote for a single series Id pick any Pens-Capitals or Pens-Flyers playoff series esp since both series had longgggg OT games somewhere in them

I don't get the voting for 04-05 - what's changed?

This is a very legitimate issue. From the "Did you know..." pile:

The salary floor from 2008-09 is already higher than the salary cap of 2005-06.

This is one reason why the small market teams are again getting clobbered. Sure, some of the locations have changed (Phoenix is the new Pittsburgh), but it's hitting them hard.

I don't want to hijack the thread with a side discussion, but while the absence of a season created a salary cap, the impact is already lost.
