So for awhile i have been sitting on something that some people may know but that a lot probably don't. In upper deck series 2 from 07-08 all of the rookie printing plates are double printed. I own 2 Anton Stralman Black printing plates and 2 Anton Stralman Yellow Printing Plates. I have been in contact (i guess you could call it that) with them recently and it took them 6 months to try and work the situation out. They finally offered me 2 packs of Ultimate which retail at 80 srp each. Which means the dealers obviously make some money and also UD makes some money so their cost i probably 40 or so per pack. They basically offered me product that cost them no more than $80 and wanted me to send back my extra plates. Well i have had enough of them and i have filed with the BBB. My goal is to show both the NHL and NHLPA how terrible their efforts have been within the last few years which includes recycling theirs and others ideas (champs anyone?), putting out essentially the same checklist for EVERY product aside from collectors choice and OPC, and treating their customers like dirt because we essentially have no other option but to take it (sorry Dr. Price but because of licensing issues ITG has no rookies and no access to a lot of things) and because we love this hobby. Hopefully we can change this situation for our benefit. Imagine what ITG could do with a full license. Imagine Topps coming back in with refractors and even a triple threads hockey edition. Imagine Panini creating something new and they also now have Playoff LTD. as well. That's the hobby life i want. Sorry for the long read but i am completely fed up. On top of my problem there are also countless others that they ignore. (not making that poor guy's framed set from the Cup) if you advertise it you HAVE to follow through. After the BBB gets back to me i am sending emails to whoever at the NHL or NHLPA who will listen.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Thank You
RJ Lennox

Man, they're offering up packs of Ultimate for returns on the doubled press plates?

There's money to be made there on some of the lousy rookies :D

But in all seriousness, I'd never offer up my set of doubled plates (Cyan, Jonathan Sigalet) just for a quick cash-in from UD. I'd rather keep the proof.

You seem pretty choked my friend. I admire your courage and willingness to take on what would seem to be a hopeless task. There are many who agree with your stance, but are unable or unwilling to take this UD/NHLPA elephant on. Best of luck on your quest....

.

Hatzosman6 have you ever thought about fighting back?

thanks for the kind words Phaneuf ive had enough and i want to show the NHL that they are driving this hobby into the ground i wont rest until i speak up for the little guy

I applaud you for wanting to get up and do something about it, but fighting back? This isn't Braveheart. You're dealing with a hobby which is not a necessity in life. There are plenty of alternatives to UD--ITG, pre-exclusive sets (Pacific/Topps/etc), vintage.

i understand that its not Braveheart but every time we let them get away with crap like this it makes it easier for them next time to do the same thing. How often lately have u opened boxes or what-have-you and been shorted something that used to never happen. Ive seen people opening 2 cases of ultimate and getting 5 of the same auto. Dont get me started on Champs great idea but how many Cleary, Kronwall, Filewich and Cory Murphy autos does a product need?

You have 2 cards that are both 1/1 and are exactly the same?

I remember reading where topps put out some numbered cards and collector had collected all of them plus more. He ended up suing Topps but they settled out of court.

taking the free packs would have meant giving back my two extra plates and i wouldnt trade the 2 plates for 2 packs of that stuff in a regular trade let alone after the 6 months of phone calls and emails ive sent

it happened twice Foley with topps 7 years ago 95-96 topps finest jaromir jagrs and 1996 topps finest greg maddux's the guy with the madduxs settled out of court for an unamed amount and Patrick Englert who had the jagrs won a settlement of 177,000 dollars

there were only supposed to be 150 and the jagr guy had 159 and the maddux guy had over 220

Someone MUCH bigger is already watching. I suspect a change will occur sooner than later. That's about a cryptic and as clear as I am going to be ;)

So, If they had offered you a case of The Cup instead of two packs of Ultimate, you would have kept your mouth shut? Simply put, they simply could have made a mistake with the plates. Perhaps they make an extra set in case a plate is damaged during the print run and accidentally they both got packed out. No matter how it happened, I fail to see what the BBB can or will do about duplicate printing plates.

mistake or not it de-values my plates therefore i should be entitled to compensation. if they did it knowingly its fraudulent misrepresentation if they did it by accident then it is negligent misrepresentation and either way it is illegal. This thread is not just about me its about all the people that they screw every week and if someone doesnt say enough well then it won't stop

Being less cryptic, I've read where WAY more than one set of plates are used to make cards. I guess they do wear out during the run. However, if you're making 1/1 cards out of them for collectors, they should be just that, 1/1s.

also quite frankly i may have taken a case of the cup but i was also very weary of opening product because if i get nothing then i gave up my plates for free. None of my pc players are in ultimate or the cup

So basically you are pissed off because those plates of your PC players are not true #1/1's. I get it.... What type of compensation were you expecting for this tragedy?

for the most part the responses ive been getting back have been very positive if this is at all a decent cross-section on the collecting community then it seems more people are upset than happy

i dont know what the exact compensation would be that would make me happy i wouldnt even trade those 2 for 2 boxes so something a little more than that. But at this point i dont care about compensation if it comes awesome i care about them killing the hobby that i love

i spent 1000 bucks on the 6 of them not to mention countless hours on ebay and sites like these searching for them and now i find out there are 2? maybe there are more than 2 if i had of known that i wouldnt have spent what i did on them

I understand your frustration, but I don't think the BBB will do anything but keep your complaint on file. They may get someone from Upper Deck give a response, but thats all.
I hope I'm wrong. Good Luck.

thanks for the well wishes i have never dealt with the BBB before so i dont know how they will help but if they dont then my plan at this time is to sue Upper Deck in small claims court here in Canada. I dont think they would like that publicity very much and maybe i can bring this issue to light with the NHL/NHLPA

The BBB will just update their website to tell people what else has gone on. Those guys are about as useful as shoes are for goldfish. Taking UD to court is a monumental task, but good luck anyways. Put me down for $5 towards any court costs you incur.
