Patrick Kane potentially in trouble again

Well D, guess you'll have to tell Ryan O'Reilly to lead the Sabres to their first so you guys can enjoy it another time.

Oh wait.

Just like everyone else in this world tied to a "charge", I'll wait until I hear the whole story and the gavel comes down.

Low blow B, low blow lol

Sucks when you have to cancel a public appearance with the Stanley Cup at a Cancer Institute because of this horrible situation.

Article in the Buffalo News today has sort of contradicting points:

Girl says that she and a friend went back to Kane's house, and she wandered into a room on her own, where Kane forced himself on her. Also it has been rumored he was acting completely drunk and belligerent while at the bar he was at.

The owner of the bar who was there was interviewed and said Kane was having a "typical night out with his buddies" and was acting like a gentleman with the attention he was receiving, and that a girl was "hanging all over him all night" as if to keep other girls away.

However, no confirmation that's the same girl or anything. But one person says he was acting belligerent, another says he was acting like a gentleman in the situation. Stuff just doesn't add up

As far as "being a gentleman" that's subjective. I am sure there are some people who think being a gentleman is tipping a server at a restaurant an extra dollar and slapping her on the behind. Pretty degrading and classless from my perspective but you see what I am getting at, it's all personal opinion.

Here's the thing, even if she was trying to keep other girls away, it is still Kane who made the choice to take her, not other girls, back to his place. (provided it's the same girl as you said)

As far as what transpired there it's he said versus she said but those rape kits/exams are pretty thorough, if there was any kind of unwanted transgression, it will likely find it.

And sorry for the Factor O'Reilly jab, it's just Buffalo. Yeah.

I saw this earlier myself - I thought this was a criminal case and couldn't be made to go away with a bribe, err, settlement.

Is that not the case?

Nothing to stop the plaintiff from accepting a cash settlement in return for refusing to take the stand, or basically signing a 'non-disclosure agreement'. In a rape case, if the plaintiff doesn't take the stand, there's very little reason to prosecute as there's next to no evidence.

So you're saying he's guilty Kev? Why does everyone seem to think Kane's attorney asked for the settlement, what if the plaintiff asked for the settlement?

Accepting a cash settlement in return for justice always cracks me up. Assuming this is the case of course.

It always reminds me of the Michael Jackson settlements. Though the dude was weird how does money make the scars go away. I'd rather them locked behind bars.

These rape cases are so damaging to the person being accused. Do we know the facts? No but if he didn't do it he was dumb enough to put himself in a situation where something happened that could be spun into a rape allegation. Many will bring up his past though there have been no sexual assault issues his run ins with the law only add fuel to the fire.

Perhaps a few more weekends at home with Netflix instead of partying could have saved Mr. Kane a boat load of cash.

As my pops used to say (Not sure what time this allegation occurred) nothing ever good happens at 3am. Go to bed.

Perhaps the accusers attorney offered to settle. Someone's comment earlier says it all, "probably a gold digger looking to hit payday". It's that mentality right there, that makes victims settle. Because they're victimized AGAIN (if the accusation is true) in the publics eye. Somehow, people can always make it out to be something they did, or something they want. It's disgusting. The court of public opinion runs strong. I wish people could just sit back until all the facts were known and use clear judgment when deciding something. But no, many have already made him guilty, and many others have already made her a gold digger, etc.

If we are to play the speculation game (speaking in general) maybe Kane requested the settlement to put it behind him and focuse of the new season which is only weeks away. Just a thought.

The question from Kevin still remains, can a private settlement close a criminal court case?

This is more what I was thinking - I don't know if he's guilty or if she's a gold digger. At this point, I don't care. The only point to my question is I was surprised that a private settlement is enough to close a criminal offense. I did word it poorly.

Fair enough, I just assumed that the police/DA would still have enough evidence from their interviews with the plaintiff before the settlement to proceed but with an unhelpful plaintiff, I can see how the the case would be scuttled.

If I'm not mistaken didn't something similar to this happen with Greg Hardy(formerly of the Carolina Panthers)? The woman in question received a payout and declined to press charges/testify as to what happened.

Generally speaking, the evidence from the interviews (written or recorded) would be mitigated by the fact that the victim wasn't put on the stand for cross examination.

I understand what you are saying, but throwing in the sarcasm and "bribe" made it look like you're saying he's guilty and bribing the plaintiff to settle.

Just because he's a Blackhawk (for now) doesn't mean I'm sticking up for him and think he's innocent, I just won't place blame either way as I don't know all the facts and probably never will. All I know is most people thought he had turned things around and grown up, he was showing maturity on and off the ice, then this. Guilty or not, he is an idiot, and proof that money cant fix stupid.

Your absolutely correct regarding my bribe comment and I have edited my original statement. I do have preconceived notions about Patrick Kane (as a person, and not because he's a Hawk) which make it much easier for me to jump to conclusions about his behaviour compared to other teammates and players around the league.
