Patrick Roy Collection

I had/have suspicions that mine is an altered patch after talking to some people. I will be initiating a return on it, and the one you just posted backs it up. Based on my research after the fact, that patch looks to color match an actual patch used.

A ton of patches from that set were altered unfortunately. In fact there is an entire set f/s on eBay and I suspect many(if not all) to be altered. You can actually find on eBay, replica patches from the all-star game that was used in that set. The replicas are terrible, very distinct from authentic game used. Fake shields were used in that set as well. Does anyone happen to have a list of ebay id's that have been altering patches? I remember it being terrible among hockey collectors in the mid-late 2000's.
 
That card you got was def altered .. I’ve seen it multiple times over the years .. that’s why I didn’t bid on it .. I would def return
 
PRoy33Collector the Shield you purchased was sold a few months back for around $305 or so. I cant find my screenshot, but it was sold by one of those consignment dealers.

The shield I posted was on eBay for a short time then taken down. Then came up on one of my Facebook groups. The only screenshot I have shows the sellers name to be "Cory" everything else is cut off. The Group, the title, his last name. I can post the screenshot tomorrow. I just don't know if this "Cory" guy was the original scammer or if his was legit?

The one you bought is really nice regardless but if you can get a refund then that might be the smart thing to do.

If it didn't ruin his day, it sure did mine. That is crazy, I didn't know these cards were being fraudulently altered.
 
Definitely bummed that it's an altered card, but once the return goes through I'll have a good chunk of change to play with. There's a really nice and tough card that I was in discussions with a member on BO that I may pull the trigger on.
 
sorry my work schedule has been crazy. I'll try and do more digging for you.

I personally don't know at all if either of them are altered. I almost bought the one I posted a picture of. Just from the comments above mine is the only evidence about them being re-patched. I only posted that picture to show that it isn't a 1/1

Now seeing that there is another shield makes me wonder but, again I don't have any proof. I would be interested in any input on these because these cards were released when I had taken a 6 year break from the hobby. Plus I'm curious to see what the consigner says about a return. I see horror stories all over this forum about re-patched cards and it scares me to collect many patch cards anymore
 
Update on the patch: Thanks to your guys' help, the seller accepted a return and will be refunding the purchase. I sent over some other pictures I received from isles4life over on BO as backup and had no issues.

Thanks to everyone who reached out about this. It's certainly disappointing to find out about the fake patch, but am glad that I don't have an expensive piece of junk sitting in my PC.

Now to spend that money on some other high end Roy's......
 
Bunch of great additions of late, and yeah, that patch was 110% fake, not even close. Glad you could get your money back!
