Player Collectors:how long have you been at it?

I started opening wax in 1989, but didn't settle on a player to collect until 2004. I'm still cataloging (a never ending process it seems), but I've got over 60% of Iginla's cards. I wish I had the willpower of quincy and Greg Brown, but I'm too much of a completionist, and I don't think I can cut back that hard. My plan (since there are way too many Iggy cards to collect each year) is to pick a couple of series, and try to collect everything from them. (eg. SPGU & The Cup).

Been trying to collect all of Bill Ranford's stuff since 1990 (when I started collecting cards). There's been some gaps in there when I wasn't collecting.... and certainly there's a big difference between me tracking down SP'd patch / auto cards today - vs tracking down that Pro Set base card when I was 11..... but the collection has been going on 20+ years now.

100 % is gonna be reaaaal tough!

I kid, I kid!

well, I meant of non-1/1s, and of course it's still virtually impossible, but the journey is most of the fun, no?

That being said, it's been a while since I pestered you about that Osgood Monograms.. Feel like moving that one yet? :giggity:

For Naslund it was 2004, particularly after pulling the SPGU dual auto/fabrics of him and Bertuzzi /21.

For Anthony Stewart it was the fall of 2006 after picking up his Cup Gold RC from the Flea Market across the street from where I was living in Edmonton.

Wade Brookbank about the same time as Stewart after trading for his UD HG RC from thecooker24.

And I don't know what particularly got me going with my Nathan Smith pc, I think I just accumulated a number of his rookies and thought why not?

October 6, 2000 was when I started collecting Marian Gaborik of the Wild. He was their first ever draft pick...and at age 18, scored their first ever goal in their first ever game. So I told myself then, I'm going to collect this kid. I've mainly focused on only game-used and autograph cards of his, but do have some rookies and other cards I've picked up here and there. But mainly game-used and auto cards.

Even though he moved on to the Rangers, I still collect him. If you're going to be a player collector, odds are they will play for different teams eventually. Hardly anyone stays put these days with the way the hockey business side is now. As long as it is still fun, I'll keep doing it.

Wendel Clark collection began in 2002-03 season after the launch of 2002-03 Upper Deck Foundations Hockey. Quickly sold my Ron Duguay for Wendel and still collecting him to this day. So 10 years and counting.. I will never give up!!

Collection

I start my Selanne PC in 1995 and never stops colecting him. As for Hejduk, I begin collection him in 2002, I was looking for another player to collect when Selanne retired, I never though Selanne will play until hes 102 years old lol...

been collecting cloutier since about 2003. 9 years damn thats a long time, i still consistantly chase his cards, have around 1200 cards. game used jersey, and a game used stick

i really enjoy it, he was my idol growing up, so i will continue with it until i get every card hah.

if anyone has any clouts send a pm my way!

I started collecting Lindros in 1995 I think. In 1998 I cut back from everything to game used and autographed cards only. In 1998 /100 were going for $200+ and even unumbered puck cards were going $150+. For me autos and game sued stuff had that connection to my favorite player that the other cards didn't have. After that first game used card, 1998-99 Be A Player Game Used Stick, there was no turning back!

Been collecting Hawerchuk since 1982 and Selanne since 1992.

Been collecting Vanek since 04 when I purchased his 03-04 BAP Draft Redemption card...now the crown jewel of my collection (#/66)

I had started collecting Luca Caputi and did so for about 1 1/2 years. I gave up on it and sold when he was traded to the Leafs. I figured if he did pan out to be a good player having him play for the leafs and his hometown being Toronto I would be up against many many more player collectors of his.

As far as collecting now I am not doing a PC of anyone. That is until Simon Despres makes the Penguins, then I think I will start collecting his cards.

I started collecting Brett Hull in 89' or 90'. I had told myself NO Hockey, just going to read the Beckett, but not collect Hockey sets or players as I was collecting sets in the other 3 sports and players in each (Karl Malone, Troy Aikman, Rickey Henderson, Jonny Bench, Juan Gonzalez) of the other sports. Well Basketball is GONE..cept for 1 box of Misc stuff, most baseball is gone..cept for a few boxes and old sets, still dabbling in football, but only a few sets and our (me and my lil guy) Miles Austin collection.

The Hull collection is CRAZY!! Still floating around 97-98% complete (w/o 1/1s), but still enjoy the challenge. Love finding one that has been on the list for years, even more than landing a "newby"

Started collecting Kris Russell 2 years ago and decided to collect John Moore the day he was drafted in 2009, but his rookies just dropped this year.

I started the Theo collection back in 1999-00 when I was working at the local card shop.
Also have a smaller, 'high-end' Craig Conroy collection. Started that one ever since I met the guy. Most positive guy on the planet!
