Picked up a UD Series One Blaster from Wal Mart. Didn't notice until I got home that the shrink wrap didn't have the UD logos. Hmm...

Then I noticed the packs. The bottom foil on almost all of the packs just seems... off.

I know sometimes the pack rollers can miscut the packs and that's fine. But this seems different. I can even see some of the cards in some of the packs.

Does this smell like a repack to you? Or am I being too critical? Anyone else have any experience like this?

Let me know your thoughts!

Looks like a repack.
I'd save everything including the receipt and contact Upper Deck!

I was at wal mat yesterday and all the boxes had UD logos wrap, if you can you should really take it back without opening it

Who does this??? Honestly how many people are gonna get ripped off before Walmart does something?

What are they going to do except say "no returns on trading cards"? People do this with action figures. Buy the ones you want, take them out of the package and put an old toy in and take it back.

I found one box of UD1 at Walmart yesterday and the first thing I looked for was the UD wrapper...pointed out courtesy of HI.

Thanks guys. Will they accept the return at WalMart? I did remove the shrink wrap and having to explain how cards and resealing packages may be a little much for my local WalMart employees.

It was a tampered product that you bought - maybe you might want to start questioning loudly that if people are bringing back tampered hockey cards, what's next?

But to point out what hasn't been tampered - you should be able to grab a retail pack off the shelf there where you can show how it should look vs. what you got.

The WalMart nearest my old house used to have someone who was buying up all the new McFarlane sports figures, and then return old Starting LineUps that he bought down the street at the flea market for $1 or less, with PHOTOCOPIES of the barcode from the McFarlanes glued over the old SLU upc codes.

There are some real bums who hurt the hobby. I've seen guys with calipers measuring the thickness of packs, and bringing in digital scales to check weight
of packs.

Walked into a local Wal-Mart about two weeks ago and saw a blaster tossed in behind the others, ripped open, with a few packs remaining and the Parkhurst pack removed.

Some people will stop at nothing, I swear.

wtf? Just looks like they stuck those packs in one of those at home heat sealers. They look burnt to me.

I want to borrow my father-in-law's metal detector so I can search for printing plates in UD hobby boxes!! Do you think anyone would let me search that way?

There are definitely some unpleasant characters out there. This is why some store owners won't let collectors pick their own packs.

But, I've been burned on that too, where the owner picking "feels" the packs and "chooses" not to give them to you. (I wanted packs, top 4 would have been fine, owner picked them up, hesitated, picked up the next 4 and sold those to me instead. I can almost guarantee you that there was a patch in the bunch. Oh, btw, if you are ever at the Market Place Mall in Rochester, NY, and there is an older lady behind the counter at the sports wear/card place, walk out, she'll pick whatever she wants for you and you'll be like :D   {Oh! No she didn't!).)

I watched a guy walk into the local shop once and just start opening different packs of cheap basketball looking at the cards, and putting them back in the packs and in the box. The guy working and I both asked him "WTH?"!! He started telling us he was going on a road trip with his kid to Cleveland to watch a Cavs game, and he only wanted to buy packs with Cavaliers cards to try and get them signed. He just could not understand why he wasn't allowed to just open packs and pull out cards he wanted!

I can think of 2 shops I've been in where they "Don't sell BOXES of cards", only loose packs. Both shops have 1 open box of cards on the counter /shelf that they only sell packs from. One I've seen sell down the box, and then refill the box from a pile under the counter. This is the same shop that always opens the store with the cases full of hits from products that just came out that day....
I actually could post a whole thread just about the one store. i wonder if it's just coincidence that the guy also lives in Rochester, any relation to the "older lady"?? :p:mad:

Wow, poor job, but good enough to fool the poor ol' guy/gal behind the wal-mart return counter. They don't know what to look for. 'Some people's kids.' ...McDavid-mania spreading outside the normal hobby crowd... reeling in the unsavory types.

Walmart doesn't treat their employees that well to begin with. I'd be more inclined to say it was a case of "I don't care" than to say anyone has been fooled.

In case anyone's curious for an update, I was able to successfully bring the box back to Wal Mart for a refund. I explained the process to the clerk and showed her the email response and tweets I got back from Upper Deck and explained that they were repackaged. She was very open-minded and wasn't surprised to hear they were repackaged. She even knew the guy who has purchased a lot of the blasters and returned them, and thought something was fishy but had no way to prove anything. I went to the card section and noticed a few more repackaged blasters and brought them to the staff's attention and they said they were going to remove them from the shelves and hopefully not allow returns on cards without UD-branded plastic wrap.

So that's a small victory, right?

Glad you let them know! Any victory is still a victory. Happy that it turned out well.
