I know today we see all types of cards in todays market, most in a good way..
BUT.. Come on "event game towel" cards ?!!

And people are buying them ? wow..
Stupid..just stupid.

I can only assume you are talking about the panini gatorade towel cards ?

I purchased a card with towel in it, it's something new and different, I like that better than getting the same insert card for 5 years in a row. Just my opinion though, I always like something different

I recall Panini mentioning that in 12-13 prime there will be cut up draft day hats... with the "button" being a 1/1...

how ever you look at it I'm not sure what's worst but its a gimmick that's all really.

The only legit (to me) game used type cards that I buy, are jersey, patch, skate, glove, ect..
That a player actually wears in a game.. Not a stupid towel that he wipes his face with !
Just too funny to me.

LOL and you honestly believe the jerseys you buy have been worn in a game??? UD uses photoshoot jerseys all the time. The player walks in, puts the replica jersey on, they take a picture and that's it. How is this any worse? At least it's different than all the same regurgitated crap

i agree its something different, nothing wrong with that, we buy and trade pieces of cardboard, so why not a piece of towel

Bang on Frank......

I guess they are trying to be creative and get something new for collectors to want. I can see player collectors buying these up.

The only jersey cards I enjoy is vintage game used but to be honest I don't even buy those anymore. Right now I am buying pre 1990 OPC a few modern OPC lengend cards a a few new Maple Leaf OPC and young guns cards. I gave up everything GU, auto's etc. 99% vintage opc, topps and parkhurst for me.

I agree that way rather something new than something that you can't distinguish of other sets. There's way too many of these sets that decided to keep almost exactly same look for years.

Yes, I think they are just trying to change up the predictable state of cards from just jersey/stick/puck/etc........even if a towel or hat.

How about this idea?

Upper Deck had President cards where there was a strand of hair from like George Washington embedded in the card. Neat concept if a card company came out with hockey cards with strands of hair from players inside a window-like section (think Ice jersey cards).

Just imagine these cards:

Jaromir Jagr Mullet card

Marian Hossa (dark version and peroxide blonde parallel version)

Scott Hartnell Flowing Locks card

Just be skeptical if you get one of Messier...where did that hair come from??? :D

Just a thought......

It's something different - nothing wrong with that. If it's not for you - then you don't have to go out and get it.

People collect what they want for whatever reason - who is someone else to judge someone else's collection unless it's offensive in general?

they should make 1/1 versions of the cards featuring the missing teeth/tooth from a few of the players. Can you imagine getting one of Bobby Clarke's tooth in an encapsulated card like they do for the Allen and Ginter Fossil cards.
* the reason why BC came to mind is one of his famous photo's showing that winning smile whilst missing a few teeth

**DISCLAIMER: This post is totally tongue in cheek LOL

I don't mind it. I haven't bought one, but it's a neat idea. I think some came from the all star game, so that appeals to me a little.

Do you remember the 'morning skate'/'skate around' jerseys (practice jerseys)?

Photoshoot/Event ones are pretty tricky, IMO. You'll have a picture of the player in a particular uniform, and the jersey is a totally different color, and back says it's from an "event". Hardly 'Game Used'. Or charity games for some of the older players.

I hate the ones that have a piece of jersey different from the picture shown on the card. For me, I find that a bit deceiving. ie. They'll show a Gretzky in Oilers uni, but the jersey is from some photoshoot in Toronto last year.

They were making towel cards ten++ years ago..I remember pulling a Jake Plummer from a football pack of cards. I was like what's that ? lol, I dont mind it either, it's different. I like the gatorade towels with the partial logo on it, pretty slick looking.

I think the football towel card would be a bit different as QB's in general (at least used to) have the towel tucked into their pants to keep their hands dry.

I like the idea in general, it's something a bit different, and that's alright in my books.

The Towels were actually from a QB Challenge competition over the summer, had nothing to do with a game, it was still different though. It came sealed in it's own pack within 2000 Donruss Preferred (the packs that had one graded card per pack). I loved this product by the way.

Im slowly turning more and towards vintage stuff. Looks cool and is more likely authentic.
