Record for variant covers?

I've not really kept up with comics lately, but I noticed the new Star Wars title, launched in March. Then I noticed the (excessive!) number of covers. Not including subsequent printings, I count 31. Surely this isn't the norm these days!

One of the justice league books did 50+ for US state flags but these days with custom store covers you'll see big launches do 15-20 easily but that's nowhere near the norm.

You ain't seen nothing yet. Wait until the new Archie debuts. Diamond alone is soliciting around 40 covers, and the same "Pony up a couple of grand and we'll do a custom cover for your shop" offer applies. I'd be surprised if the total is less than 100 variants.

Its all the rage now in comics...variant covers...I am all for one or two, especially if they are Deadpool and funny but at a certain point its insane. They creating false rarity just like the card world.

Well, it seem more prevalent now because every damn store has to have a variant or 17. I have all those fun Superman variants they did for his death storyline, so yes they did them too but now its just creating false scarcity for the sake of a money grab. yes variants are always that way but it seems soooo much worse to me now.
