This happened a couple weeks ago, but I wasn't aware of it until today, nor could I have pieces 2 and 2 together before the weekend when I found some info out. Apparently Roy had a discussion with someone on Twitter about his PC, and noted that the Moment of Truth auto wasn't his autograph and then accused Topps of forgery.

Here's where it gets interesting. Nelson's noted that the only UFC autograph deal in place was in 2009, and he hand numbered every autograph he signed. That's why his Ultimate Fighter autos have a disclosed print run.

You might also notice that all of Nelson's autographs have the old style Topps metallic sticker.

I wasn't aware of this until the weekend, but apparently, Topps was in negotiation to create an IFL card set back in 2007-2008 before the promotion folded. Topps had gone so far as to obtain autographs from many of the fighters. Here's what it gets interesting...here's a partial list of fighters that were with the old style (not as holographic) silver sticker signatures in UFC products and which auto sets have them

-Bart Palaszewski - Moment of Truth
-Matt Horwich - Round 2
-Mike Ciesnolevicz - Round 2
-Roy Nelson - Round 4, Moment of Truth (half his name, half "Big Country")
-Chris Horodecki - Title Shot
-Vladimir Matyushenko - Round 4, Moment of Truth
-Marco Ruas (Coach) - Knockout 2010
-Pat Miletich (Coach) - Round 2, Knockout 2010 auto'd shirts
-Bas Rutten (Coach) - Knockout 2010 auto'd shirts / Premium Pieces
-Don Frye (Coach) - Knockout 2010 auto'd shirts

All of these fighters were associated with the IFL at the time the set was being kicked about. I would say it's reasonable, as such, to expect that all Topps was simply recycling these autos as they saw fit, not unlike UD and World of Sport.

Matyushenko's autos are particularly telling in terms of when these stickers might have been signed. Some of his Moment of Truth autographs are signed with the older style "Vladdy Matyushenko" as opposed to the more standard "VMAT" or single "Vladimirmatyushenko" squiggle he has been doing for the last couple years.

In a roundabout way, the accusation is hilarious, and well, baseless. It's as quirky as that song "I'm my own grandpa" Nelson's essentially accusing Topps of forging his own autos that he'd previously provided them with.

On a side note...about 6 months ago, I gave his wife Jessica the name and number of somebody at eBay that could assist him with getting fake autographs of his taken off the website, but now that I think about it, I might have given him the access number to get his own legitimate autographs taken off the marketplace

Does this make my Finest Dual Auto with Dan Hardy more or less valuable?

I don't think there's a value change. To me, this whole issue isn't up for debate.

I just added Vladimir Matyushenko to this list some more timeline information to add to the belief that many of the stickers might've been signed far before they appeared in UFC sets.

All the coaches except for Ruas and then Matyushenko and Palaszewski have since signed auto deals with Topps, so they have the standard clear stickers autos too.

That's way too funny. Roy "My belly aches" Nelson. At least he entertains us. Who was the TNA wrestler that you referenced?

I can't remember her name (guaranteed Matt will!) but it was a TNA Knockout that had someone else sign for her and Jarrett gave her the old heave ho.

Well written article, bro...I have to check out more of what you've done :)

I don't unfortunately. Somebody told me one time, and I normally tend to remember these things but this name escapes me. I'm pretty sure it was one of:

-Rhaka Khan
-Roxxi
-ODB
-Angelina Love
-Velvet Sky

The latter 4 were brought back by TNA eventually, but Rhaka Khan never has been.

Thanks Ryan...appreciated. If you're looking for more hobby related stuff, I wouldn't go too far. This is the only in-depth article I've been able to do that bridges hobbies :)

I could care less about Nelson I know Dana White hates him honestly and is sick of his whole package that he brings to the UFC anymore after seeing the initial stuff for this season of TUF Shane Carwin hates him and cant wait to try and beat him to death

All this ontop of Nelson crying cause he cant get major sponsors or anything cause of his super gut and mega mullet

Sure, but this article is less about Roy Nelson himself and more about protecting the integrity of a card company. People on Combat Cardboard, Beckett and SCF immediately sided with Nelson sight unseen, but I don't blame them necessarily. How do you not believe it when it comes straight from the horse's mouth?

It was tough to write an article without just coming out and saying "Roy Nelson is wrong" because well, again, how do you disprove a notion when it comes straight from the source? Even at the end, I couldn't just up and say he was wrong, but hopefully the evidence I've given shows that he's about as close to wrong as you can be when you pull back and look at it logically
