I have no doubt that Ovie will not only break Gretzky's goal record, but he will reach 1000 regular season career goals (barring something catastrophic from happening or CBA dispute). He is the purest and best goal scorer of all time. Earlier in his career, I had my doubts. Bossy and Hull were my benchmarks as pure snipers. Gretzky was just great at scoring, but passing/assists is his benchmark.

In my mind, it's not long a question of "if" but rather "when" Ovie will break Gretzky's record and also reach 1000 goals.

Scored his 40th of the season tonight. That ties him with Gretzky for most 40 goal seasons in a career at 12.

On a side note the goal was scored on his 6,001 st career shot on goal. Only other player with over 6,000 SOG was Bourque with 6,209.

I'm kind of the opposite. I realize this probably isn't realistic, but I think it would be kind of neat if somehow, 99 still has the record in the league's 250th season or something.
