So far what i have accomplished...PIC HEAVY

Thanks i'll check it out. I might buy more of the cards in BVG and BGS. I have a hard time getting past the cheap look of the PSA slabs cheap looking labels and cards that move.
That's one of the big downsides to PSA holders. Though they do seem to display well.

BVG/BGS for Vintge is fine but when looking at a BVG vintage card compared to a PSA card the PSA card wins in condition/better market value. Card looks much nicer in PSA for condition. Think they grade much harder then BVG/BGS for vintage grading...

For example OPC Gretzky BVG 7 $12-$1400, PSA 7 $17-$2k+
You're right there. Value-wise, PSA beats BVG/BGS with vintage hands down. I'm seeing that in modern stuff too. Do a search for McDavid or Crosby for example, and you'll a lot of the time PSA sells for more.

And I don't agree the way that is going right now... For vintage it's PSA all the way but for modern stuff, should definitely be BGS! A card PSA 10 will sell more then a card that is BGS 9.5 and .5 away from pristine! Ridiculous lol

True. And when you see that, you wonder if it is more the PSA name or reputation that is carrying the price because of their good rep. with vintage grading, or if their grading is truly more accurate for modern? Somehow I doubt there would be much difference.

Nice new additions, but I though you were sticking only to PSA 9's?

Thanks! For the 1980s rookie, yes I'm sticking to 9s, only have messier outstanding.

Here's my "rule":

1990+: PSA 10
80s: PSA 9
70s: PSA 7 or 8
60s: PSA 6 or 7 (for Orr a 4 or 5 will do haha)
50s: PSA 4, 5 or 6

Oh okay. That makes sense. I continue to like this project. How many players do you have left to buy?

I have 58 cards but 8 of those aren't HOFers such as Lindbergh, Beezer, Wendel clark, Brodeur, Jagr, Crosby, price, OV

So according to the registry I'm at 50 out of 139 or 36% complete. Have a long way to go!

Interesting. Just curious, when deciding which rookie card to buy, post-1990, considering there are multiple rookie cards for each player, what makes you choose one rookie card over another? Is it the most valuable rookie? Or the most collected (i.e. the Young Guns)? I noticed you chose several rookies from the regular UD set. When looking to buy say a Nickas Lidstrom rookie card, why not buy his Premier rookie?

Because I'm a sheep! Haha Well to be honest I use the PSA registry which already has a list of specific rookie cards for players who have more than 1. That being said, for pre-1990 the registry does consider both Topps or OPC version of said rookies.

Here's the list:

That makes sense. You've got one of the coolest PC's on HI. I mean obviously it takes a lot of discipline and focus to do what you're doing - the time and money is significant too. Every year, you might remember, HI has the annual "Top" cards you purchased/acquired for the year. Most people do a top ten, but some people do more or less than that. I will be curious to see what your "Top" S&T thread of the year will look like. Should be one of the better one's.

thanks Burt, that's very nice of you to say. I Just had my second child so now that i have 2 kids under the ages of 3 that will undoubtedly have an effect on my ability to purchase cards haha. That's OK though since I keep telling myself that this is a marathon and not a race. I think my next "big" purchase will be to buy another display case cause the one that I have only holds 50 cards (as you can see below). Unfortunately the only place that sells them is in the USA and the shipping is as much as the actual case.

Burt is the last name, Collin is my first name. LOL. But you're welcome! :) Your cards look great in that display case. Is that your whole PC for now? Or you have more still to display? Either way it looks awesome!

My bad Collin! That's my whole collection, well i have a few YGs and some Timmies sets hanging around somewhere else but this is it. This case was made by a friend of mine, it's really nice but quite heavy. The reason that i want to purchase this time is because the ones that i'm eyeing have a plexi glass "cover/door" that can be locked.

No problem. Well it is a great collection. Good job! So you are looking for a better case to store all of your graded cards. Sounds like a good idea.

Thanks Collin!
