I for one happen to rally love the APP..the cards are sharp (I know not physical) and the game play is pretty fun....I have spent my share of $$$$ on the APP and on ebay as well. When I first saw the UD digital, I didn't get it (and still dont with UD)...why would I spend $$ on something I can't box up of add to my binder collection :)
Then the WWE APP came out and I thought it was awesome...learned the ropes somewhat quickly and started to cross trade as much as possible...then got into Huddle as well...learned a bit more and enjoyed the contest feature....THEN SKATE hit...I knew I would be sucked in with my son.

Here is where I sit and some insights as well: 94.60 score...A full GOLD Series 1 set...dupes of most of the high scoring D-Men :) 2 Full NY Rangesr Gold sets...5 Gold Lundqvist. (30) Lundqvist Milestone (1st one they dropped) and 5 or 6 of the 2nd. I do not chase every insert that drops, but am up to date on all the NOW and FOCUS (Video cards...These are AWESOME)

Working on Series 2 now...a bit slower than series 1, but getting there.

Hints/Tricks, Notes:
If you have the other Topps Apps and really dont care too much about them...find a solid cross-trade partner. I have a guy on Star Wars and his 5-6 buddies who continue to open Series 2 Jumbo packs for me and I open whatever they need on SW...they take all my base and I do the same...a little bit of work, but loads of fun. I also ran into someone on Bunt who is doing the same...I open the guaranteed insert packs for him and he opens jumbo packs for me. 25 cards at a time starts to add up quickly. I have found that cross-trading on KICK is the toughest (as people want all of your better items for the one white base card you asked for Skate...WWE is getting to be the same as well)

There have been (as far as I have seen) 2 "Glitches" on Skate (both a few weeks back)
1. There was a bundle that was $4 or $5 and got you coins and access to a "FREE" pack that included 1 HUGS insert (I still dont think Topps knows the definition of FREE, as you should not have to PAY to access something that they call FREE :loseit::loseit:. Once you open your FREE pack it SHOULD disappear...it did not! Once I (and other users) realized this, we all had sore fingers from opening packs for about 2 days until Topps fixed it. That is why you will see folks (myself included) with 100+ of the 5 HUGS inserts from that week. Each pack had a HUGS insert and 4 base, but still a lot of cards....now the Biggie!

2. I think the week after when the 3 Stars of the Week drop on Monday...collect all 3 stars (2nd Star is behind the 3rd and 1st is behind the 2nd...so they are "stacked" in the packs making it tougher to complete the set...which I usually just grab for $3 from an ebay seller). If you hold all 3 stars by the reward drop on Wednesday, you get a free 25 Card Jumbo pack (includes 1 teal and a chance at a purple and/or black). Again, you open the pack and it should disappear...but this time when I went to open it a 2nd time it was still there and a 3rd time and a 4th time...and approx (for my son anyway) 500+ more times. Yes...more sore fingers, but so far for him almost enough base cards to meld up each player to Silver (or at least multiple blacks) I know some of the heavy users opened 1,500-2,000 packs (2,000*25 = 50,000 base cards over a 2 day period)

It's too bad a few timely glitches like that basically upset the balance of the app for the entire season though. The few who were able to take advantage of that and stockpile mountains of golds and silvers are unbeatable. Not that it really matters, I knew going in that I wasn't going to be a competitor or anything and I was in it more for the collecting, but it obviously that makes for a dramatic gap between "haves and have-nots".

Progress is definitely a million times slower for me. I've only got two gold cards - MacKinnon and Matthews - and it took probably 50-60+ trades just to put those two together grinding out greens, reds and blues for days. I managed silvers of McDavid and Crosby and decided to stop there because I was quickly emptying the cupboard trying to trade for them. My best defenseman is a purple Burns and I see some guys with 5-6 copies of his gold. I'm going to try for a black of Burns and be happy with that.

Hell, my black Mitch Marner was tougher to put together than all of those combined because like you say Series 2 is very hard to come by. There is one gold Marner in existence (you can flip a gold and see the count in the brackets in the bottom right corner), I know the guy who has it and I can't imagine the trading he had to do to work up to gold especially since you can't buy the purple, black or silver packs with Series 2 players yet. It would have had to be countless S2 base pack openings or hundreds of trades just for that one card. Props to that guy.

But whatever, it's all in fun. If I tune out the high level accounts I'm pretty happy with the stash I put together just in the last week. It's just another one of those things to make the season a little more interesting.
 
I got to a Flynn black, but I'm just waiting until the packs drop to try for a gold and silver
 
Well the Series 2 purple, black and silver base packs are now available if you're up for spending real money. For the rest of the season if you buy a 4 or 9 card Series 1 base pack of either color you get a free Series 2 base pack of the same color.
 
Free coins offers are even worse now than they were a couple months back. Kinda given up on that aspect and just playing the lottery with my daily alotment going for inserts.
 
I'm DominatorCPL on here. Just joined 2 days ago. :) I used my 10,000 coins from my daily bonus today and got a pack and landed the Crosby/Giroux dual signatures card. 1:500 pack odds. Too bad it wasn't real, that would be sweet!
 
A lot of these cards do look very nice, especially the Topps Now "relic" cards they've released the last couple of days of players wearing St. Patrick's day warmup jerseys. A physical version of those would be something I'd collect for real.
 
So after adding an account to a second device and spending five days trading back and forth, I wound up with 267 bonus cards plus the extra cards from leveling up!!

Yes, my time IS worthless, thanks for asking.......

I'm glad I'm not a completionist. Topps has been pretty relentless with the new insert sets and limited cards lately, even the big spenders must be getting burned out by now. Packs with limited cards that normally sell out quick are lingering in the store for days. The pack odds don't help either. Still a fun app but creeping towards the greedy side.
 
I'm gonna try for a complete S1 teal set & finish off my Kesler rainbow and I'll be happy with that......

Skate would never let me register with my email for whatever reason. I used Topps Bunt a lot last year and their interface is pretty awful.
