just another reason not to trust beckett listings, all the top young guns from the past 3 years-the best rookie krieder, hopkins and seguin their parallel version(canvas or anniverary issue)book higher than their regular (young gun) card..............so this years regular mackinnon books $100 the canvas $80,so a few weeks ago a customer buys my canvas for $120 as i guaranteed it would book at least as much as his regular young gun, well thanks again beckett now i have to cough up another card to keep a customer happy???????????????????????????????????????????????????

Who cares what it books for? What are the two selling for at auction? Beckett pricing has been out to lunch forever, so I don't understand why people keep using it like it's the holy bible of card collecting? It's a guide, and not a very accurate one at that. I just took a quick look on ebay, not that in depth a look, but what I saw was pricing all over the map, but for the most part the canvas was selling for the same amount, or slightly higher than the regualr YG. Maybe you shouldn't have said that to your customer, but the canvas should be booked at, or higher, and let's not forget the fact that UD is replacing the misprinted copies, so there's likely more copies of the reg YG than the other rookies in the set. Nobody has ever been able to discipher how these morons come up with their pricing, so whatever they say should always be taken with a grain of salt.

yea if i had my choice i wouldn't even buy a beckett, but so many of my collectors want to base their opinion on what a card becketts for-so i have no choice but to set my prices based on this book and if a card hasn't booked yet we try to give the customer logical reason what it should guide for..........thanks for your input

A couple of words that should never be used when talking about Beckett; logical and guarantee. Plus if you sold the Canvas for $120 you should already have plenty of room to give up an extra card or two.

The term should be card value not book value. For most stuff I still put trust in ebay completed prices, certainly more accurate than Beckett. I collect and buy Felix Potvin and let me tell you the Beckett is not even close on the value of his cards. The only thing I use beckett for is for information (card #, odds, who's in what set etc...) card valus not so much lol.

Why (if allowed) wouldn't someone publish an ebay version of a Beckett. Publish the average sales of cards. Thinking about setting that up could be daunting but there are some smart people out there. Maybe an online version. Would be a lot of work to start. As time goes by people would use Beckett less and less and then we would have everyone on the same page. I might be out in left field on this but would like to hear comments.

Nobobdy would pay for something that you could get for free off ebay completed items search plus there is always the critics who argue ebay is a small portion of the market sales....I disagree. Very rarely do shops or dealers at card shops ever get their sticker price or "BV". There is always some wheeling and dealing and negotiating happening so a true exact value is impossible. Ebay is as good a guide as is out there. I trust and use it for an idea for value.

Sorry I don't sell on ebay . So there is a list of sales that are available . Do they keep all sales over time or do they delete after a certain time frame.

if i had pulled it from a pack i would have agreed with you but that wasn't the case,i had money and trade into it.......and yes i thought it would guide higher than hopkins $150(like what has he done in 2 years that merits that price)
