Superlative 2??? ITG has a new graphic on their site

i have never been to an expo, and once again wont be able to make it to this one. what exactly is the redemption program, and why would people wait to buy their books because of it?

If you open your product at the ITG booth, you get free cards. For Superlative Volume I for example, people got those awesome Team Superlative cards...which in some cases ended up being your best hit.

Maybe ITG should just make a Superlative Franchises...though, come to think of it, I'd really prefer if they did that set 'with' NHL logos on them. Hope that day will come, and sooner than later.

Hm. What I was saying earlier about the Rags' not being able to carry a brand...

I might be mistaken.

This could be an outlier, but this is already $100 more than I expected the piece to fetch.

The Original 6 stuff has been going REAL high for a little while now, the swatch is about the size of a dime too.

I would like Superlative franchises as well, however... It wouldn't be too easy for ITG without a license..

Absolutely agree with you, it is a cash cow, but does ITG at this time want to start putting out team sets under the superlative banner (Very High End) in years that are not special or commemorative to the team 25th, 50th, 75th, 100th anniversay, 10, 25, cup wins etc... All I'm asking it what is so special about now and the leafs that ITG would make it a leafs set other then looking at wat kind of profit they can bring home.

Isn't it like 42 years or something since the Leafs last won a cup ;).
Who says you can only celebrate something in multiples of 5's, and 0's :D.
I have no interest in any team specific set, but that's just me. So they're wasting the concept on a certain segment of people. To each his own though.

Not easy, but they definitely can do it. So we have no RCs and we can't use images of guys who've signed to UD (Gretzky, Messier, Orr etc.)? Big deal. Most (all) O6 franchises have enough history and tradition to build a set of them even without some of the very best.

Steve,

There are a few (at least 3) guys who are building MASTER sets of all 6. Some pieces that they all need are going for ridiculous coin.

I sold a Sid Abel vintage jersey /40 from that O6 Detroit for $128 + shipping last weekend.

There was an Andy Moog jersey that went for $200+...

Perhaps I should list my Rangers Master set? Nah, I think I'll keep it.:D

Oh, building master set on all, thats one crazy set if someone actually can do it...

Alot of those /20 cards are locked away in sets/player collections allready, like Mike said maybe i should list my Chicago master set but then again i love it too much to do that.

And to the original point, i think Superlative with all O6 teams would be nice one but i feel that ITG should get the really big players into it (Meaning Bobby Orr&Gordie Howe for example), Superlative really needs to be something special and about great players.

Guys, I follow Original Six sales religiously. There've been two other Doug Harvey gloves up in the last six months that didn't come CLOSE to what this one's doing.

Two morons bidding like crazy for sure. It should be a $50 card or so. Maybe a little higher.....

Regarding the original topic, I believe ITG has made the best possible business decision with the consideration of the NHLPA stiffing them (my words). Arguably the top two hockey franchises when it comes to dedicated collectors to launch the product, test the market, and build interest. Follow-up with Detroit, and assuming it continues the brand success, release the Boston set. If the market buzz carries through (or better yet it escalates) then follow up with the final two.

In a tough market, and in a time where collector's will probably be more selective in spending, why not create product loyalty/budgetting.

I applaud ITG's continuing challenge of the status quo. GO ITG GO :)

I have to agree with Glenn here (very well said by the way). I may not be able to afford a book, but you can bet I'll be looking to score some singles :D.

Cheers,
