Sweet Shot Signature, stickers and memorabilia?

I was looking at my autographs cards, and i noticed that Beckett "tagged" the Sweet Shot Signature as "Autographs Stickers" and "Memorabilia".
Where is the memorabilia? The "puck" behind the auto? And why stickers?
Sorry if the question is dumb, i'm pretty ignorant about all those differences :rolleyes: :D
 
If you are talking about the Puck Signings, I am 99% sure they are hard-signed and 100% sure they contain no memorabilia. Beckett can say whatever they want, but they are wrong as usual.
 
I think the puck part of the Puck Signings can be considered sticker-like because they were inserted into the card. Maybe the Stick Signings #'d/15 are the memorabilia part?
 
The Puck Signings would be classified as sticker (which they are, just black as opposed to clear), the Ice signings /100 would have no designation, and the Stick Signings /25 would be classified as memorabilia..... Not to be confused with the Signature Sticks /15..

Puck Signings are not stickers, the black part is in the card before the player signs it. If you look at some of them close (I have plenty) the ones that the player bumped into the edge of the window while signing have silver ink along the side of the window that you can only see up close if you tilt the card. That tells me the black puck part was already in the card when the player signed it. My Bernie Parent Puck Signing is the best example of this, if you look at the top the pen clearly hit the edge of the window:

I can`t scan it in a way that you can see it but there is silver on the inside edge of the window.

Beckett is wrong :)
 
And given that they are hard signed its amazing that out of 80+ cards that made it into packs only the Crosby was a redemption, the rest were live (except for the ones that leaked late as replacements).

The Signature Sticks /15 are game used memorabilia, the Stick Signings /25 are manufactured pieces.
 
They are most definitely stickers that are trapped between the layers of the card. I just tore a Pitkanen apart and they are a square sticker imbedded between the layers. Regardless whether they were inserted when the player signed or not they are stickers.

That is how the card is manufactured, instead of having an all-black layer (like the Ice Signings with the acetate layer) they just embed it into the card. Otherwise how does the ink get on the inside edge of the puck window when the player bumps it with his pen? If that was the case it would be similar to some ITG autos where the auto runs under the edge of the window and re-emerges, but with Puck Signings the pen hits the window and you can see where it ran through the groove and left ink on the inside before coming back on to the surface. I am 100% sure that they are hard signed because of the way the ink gets on the inside of that window, and if you could see my Parent and Kovalchuk up close you would see what I mean.
 
I'm not arguing that they are signed as an intact card. They are still a black square sticker (take any of the numerous shmucks and rip em apart)I don't care what order they are manufactured or signed. It's still not that same as a true hard signed card as it still leaves at issue the possibilty of stickers separating over time.

If the player holds the card as a whole and signs it then I consider it hard-signed. By your logic if you take the Scripted Swatches from the Cup and the player signs the swatch then it is not hard-signed, or the Ice Signings with the acetate layer for that matter. If the "insert" or whatever is embedded into the card like it is then I seriously doubt that will come apart. It may be a different layer of the card but it is part of the card, stickers are meant to be signed and applied later without the player even seeing the card.

As long as the player holds the card when he signs it instead of a sheet of stickers I am happy, getting into which layers are part of the card and which are not is getting too technical.
 
I'm really not debating the definition of hard signed, I'm far more interested in having cards that will stay intact over time. Stickers (either trapped or applied) are prone to issues over time.

If you look back to earlier sticker issues (trapped or applied) there are some issues with stickers starting to bubble or lift as well as signed material swatches. I've got an 02-03 Foundations Beliveau that needs to be pressed back down every so often as the sticker starts to lift even though it is trapped. 04-05 Ultimate Signature Patches are another example - several have started to lift. I've got a Horton that you can slide the signed patch swatch around as the glue has let go.

The black part of the Puck Signings seem to be cardboard, how rigid would you say it is having taken one apart? I can see a sticker bubbling over time or with heat applied or whatever seeing as how its thin plastic but these seem to be fairly solid. None of the 06/07 Puck Signings I have had seem to show any signs of the puck part coming loose or deforming. I know the back of some of my Cup patches from 06/07 had a little indent from what I figure is the glue holding the patch in.
 
They appear to be slightly thicker than your everyday avery label and have adhesive backs as well as a small amount of adhesive sticking them to the card front. There's about 2-3 mm of sticker beyond the sides and top/bottom of what you see as the puck. It peeled away from the backing with no trouble at all but the front side appears to stick to the puck much better. Nobody knows for certain what they'll do down the road it's just from my stand point I'm very leary of how they hold up as most adhesive is prone to letting go over time. I have several Beliveau pieces that are stickers and I'd hate to see them fail over time.


EDIT - Now I'm bored and curious. Time to see who else I have laying around that's fit for destruction.

As a follow up I did an 07-08 Ryan Potulny (stupid flyers uggh :D ) and they are a complete different design. The puck is a complete layer with just a black box printed and embossed for the puck area. Think 3 layer - card front, middle with the black embossed puck area, and card back. Interesting that they changed manufacturing process year to year yet left the design nearly identical lol.
