The Official Trade Deadline Thread.....

And the Canucks, once again are making NO use of the trade deadline ... the last time we had a real deal was 2000 (I think?) for Brendan Morrison. Come on Nonis ....

and now huet has been traded to the caps for a 2nd rnd pick

If that happens, kiss Montreals chances goodbye at the Stanley Cup unless they pick up somebody with experience as a stop gap. Huet may not have been much, but he gave them a much better chance than Price would...

Now that I think about it, quite frankly, I would rate Huet for a 2nd rounder among one of the dumbest moves in the history of the trade deadline...why would you trade your starting goalie in a Cup possible season for nothing?

And what a slap in the face to Kolzig....

I can't believe Montreal essentially gave Huet away... Washington just solidified their goaltending for the next few years (assuming they re-sign him).

the Habs are in the middle of the playoff fight and give away their starting goalie for peanuts .....that seems crazy

I like this.... Huet a Capital... Huet is in the final year of a two-year contract and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Now either Kolzig or Johnson are most likely on the move?

I can't believe Kolzig would be moved, but he might be the final piece that Ottawa or Montreal needs. I am hearing that my Hawks are looking to move Khabibulin as well. Could we see Khabibulin to the Canadiens now? TSN was talking about Khabi to the Sens for Emery. Just think, if the Hawks move Khabi and bring in Emery, the Hawks might have a legit tough guy again.

No Smith is the "key" to that deal theres no question.

And you love your "prospects" eh Rob?

I think while Smith was the catalyst to try and solidify Tampa's shoddy goaltending, Jokinen could end up being the centrepiece when it's all said and done. I think Richards was overrated and overpaid, and I could see Jokinen replacing Richards numbers quite easily. So if Richards-Jokinen was a wash in terms of even trade, it would make the remainder Smith and Halpern for Holmqvist.....THAT is laughable....

And yes, I love prospects...fun to speculate....I've banked on both Kostitsyn and Michalek and both those guys have proven my instincts to be correct...

Your kidding yourself if you think Richards and Jokinen are a wash. I realize you have an affection towards young players but theirs no question Richards is, and will forever be the better player. Sure he's overpaid and not playing like he did a couple years ago but he's still a 70+ pt two-way forward. Since he was drafted Jokinen has regressed each of the last 3 years. Don't get me wrong, he's decent... but he's no better than a 2nd liner and even thats questionable. More like a good 3rd liner.

The one "elite" chip Dallas gave up was Mark Smith. Who was redundant for them considering they have Turco ahead of him. So Dallas essentially gave up a backup and a good 3rd line forward for an elite 2-way player.

I don't think this move is bad for Tampa. They got a good young starting goalie and shaved a lot of salary. But I don't think they "stole" anything.

Wow. Huet for a 2nd round pick? I'm not sure if that's an excellent trade by Washington or the usual horrid Montreal deal. :S

And I'm echoing your sentiments Rob - Jokinen is the impact player now, but Smith is the one that will go the long way. Either way, Tampa's made out HUGE on that deal.

As for Vancouver not dealing, why?! The Avs might look to make a move on the standings with Foppa in the mix, and it's proven that this team can't simply ride Luongo again if no one's going to put something in the back of the net.

oh no
olivier

to quote myself ..

just a draft pick for Cristobal ! he deserves much more than that !! MUCH MORE ! Surely not a huge star but more than that !
I also suppose the CH doesn't want to play the PO for the next 2 or 3 seasons.

I am SICK and as much as I know personnally Cristobal he must be really sad.

Andrew Ladd to Chicago in exchange for Ruutu - hmmm....

That move just gave Chicago another $1.3 million in cap space. They will be buyers in the off season, they will do something to dump LaPointe's disastrous contract as well.

Ruutu has been a huge dissapointment the last 4 years, he does hit and muck it up but he is soft and injured too much. I am happy to see him go, I hope he does well in Carolina.

Ladd, meh, whatever. If he stays in Chicago as a 3rd liner fine, if he leaves no worries.

Time will tell I guess, but I still think Tampa will come out ahead....;)
