I'm posting this here instead of Beckett for a good reason - this is a password protected site, which means el Random Yahoo cannot web his way in and start reading without being a member. Since I'm fairly confident he ISN'T a member here, some info for y'all on how to fix the problem.

Phone PayPal. Be prepared to wait a frigging long time on hold.
They'll unlock for you. Ahead of time, generate a nice, fresh, pristine email account not used for anything else to use as your PP id. Don't give it out to eBay or anything like that.

WITH PP ON THE PHONE, you attach this NEW one to your account. You
then cancel all the other email accounts attached to your PP account.
You make payments as normal. Don't worry about incoming payments -
they're easily retreivable as follows:

1) Wait for the "You got CASH" notice to whatever email account it is.
2) Login to PP using your new secret email account as normal. Go to "profile". Add the email account that got paid to your profile.
3) Confirm that email address normally. When you do, the funds will be
added to your PayPal balance.
4) Immediately REMOVE that email address, keeping only your secret
address on the account.

A pain in the neck, but it works. I had to reactivate my account three
times in 20 hours. This is much less work. It also seems to be secure thus far.

Steve,

Just got off the phone with PP. They say it's an internal problem. But I didn't take any chances. Used a gmail account that I really haven't touched since it was opened and cancelled the home and the webmail based accounts I used in my profile. Crossing my fingers and will check back at lunch.

Cheers,
Art

There's a problem with PayPal? [knocks on wood skull]

I had to call PayPal last week for something else and waited on hold a very long time before being transfered twice. I'd rather jab rusty paperclips under my fingernails than go through that again.

i just checked mya ccount..
and i had to update password..
and now im supposed to send in a fax of a statement?/

bah!

OH GREAT! After I read this post I went to try out to see if my paypal address works and it automatically brought me to the screen that says "forgot your password"...It seems that I'm going through the same problem. Is a person who is doing this to all different board members?? The reason I ask is because my business paypal account is unscaved (probably b/c no board members know it). Let's see if I can fix this mess

Aaron,

You should call them to reinstate it. You might be on hold for 15-30 mins though, that's how long it took me.

They can reinstate it after you provide them with some info.

Just curious, what info do you need to provide them?

Bal - Speculation is that it's Daystar. No proof. I kinda hope it is, as it's the sort of thing which can greatly speed his transition to a small, dank concrete cell with a violent sex criminal for a bunkmate.

Yeah, that was my hunch immediately as soon as I saw what was going on; targeting board members and he had already done the same thing to me before. Now to call paypal and get my account back...

Gimme the short version of the Daystar story. I've been on Beckett since around September or so and have never heard the name. I stick with the Hockey boards, so I assume he/she is on one of the others?

As for my experience, I was on hold for 20 minutes and just couldn't wait any longer due to a meeting at work. Their hold message states it's an internal problem, but Steve's comments definitely make me question this...

I've always used just the one email address, but it looks like I'll be creating another now!
