The PayPal problem with a solution

Steve - Common occurrence. Change the email address, and you should be right as rain.

Mark - Won't matter. Go back and read the first post again. PayPal sells their service on the fact that the other party NEED NOT HAVE a PayPal account. They can still send the money to your old PayPal address, and you don't need to give eBay the new one. Let them send the money to the old address, then say once per day you can go into your profile and ADD the old address to your profile - money's transferred automatically. After that, you simply remove the old address again, and you stay nice an' secure.

OK, I changed the address and removed the old one, now, if I get a payment to the old address, I just log in, and add the old email address back in, and the money will transfer automatically? Nothing else has to be done for that to occur?

Well, seems I'm out of luck - the guy I spole to on the phone (after only 4 minutes or so) said that the only way I can unlock my account is to send them the info via fax. 7 to 10 business days, after which of course, they'll unlock it and unless I know when they do it, I'll probably get locked out again.

Wonderful.

How is everyone else getting them to do this over the phone?

I would have to say that it is a bad Becketteer that is doing this. I just got the email and forwarded it to "Spoof" to see what response I get from them. It is not imperative that I "re-activate" my account as I have no money or bank account attached to it. Thanks for the tips, Steve.

When I called, the CSR asked me for some info, like the last 4 digits of the credit card, bank account, or Paypal Debit Card that you have registered with them. That was all I needed to confirm my identity.

I did that - he said that since I had been emailed a 'reference number' (a code associated with the type of problem) I would have to follow the instructions in the email.

The whole thing has got me ticked to the point where I'd love to just pack it in, but I need to get my money out of there first! :)

Its easy for everyone in USA/Canada but calling from Finland to USA is not an option for me... I can imagine my next phonebill if i would do that(and for sure i wont, i'll rather stop using whole **** paypal)

Cory - The front line peons only have "no" powers. You need to talk to a supervisor as they're the ones with "yes" power.
 
with all of these problems. I think someone should suggest Beckett look into a PM system like here. This would eliminate our email addresses being out in the open for communication.
 
talked to someobdy higher up than your usual customer service rep - everything's fixed here. Anybody care to enlighten me on daystar?
 
Daystar is the human skid-mark who made many the changes to Beckett NECESSARY. He's also been a non-trivial PITA to eBay and PayPal with non-stop harassment of various folks.

And FWIW, I love being right - several folks emailed me with the IP addresses from which these login attempts were made. They matched up with a (now suspended) Beckett user. Wanna guess?

as per finland to USA, there's a # in britain I believe, an 800#,
forget what it is, search beckett under cecil's ID (Kovalchuk17)

I use auto login for beckett but do you need to have a user ID to view profiles on beckett? IF not maybe it is a good idea to pass on...Personally I think you should have to sign on to use most features aside from a few free articles. I might start to stick with
Anyway I also like your suggestion though I do not sell much....either way I will not even give the secret email to my own mother :) ...so you know I will not give it to the most trusted members here :D

Are you all still planning to use your old Paypal address for selling on Ebay, and then doing the temporary transfer once you get payment as per Steve's suggestion?

With whatever new paypal email we decide to use, does it appear if a buyer is going through checkout on Ebay? If so, the culprit could still screw over certain people's accounts, but he'd have to win individual auctions and do checkout in order to get the new Paypal addy. A lot more work for sure and less 'victims', but still a way to target certain people if he wanted to.

Not unless you have it linked to ebay...this is why you don't have it linked to ebay at all...even though you may trust the people here, don't even give it to one of us..he may still beable to get some people but those who use Steve's idea should be safer at the very least...I might be willing to go a stept futher and ask the person to send the payment at a certain time...even get on AOL IM and do it live and remove the email right away...no one can causes this havok if you are signed on already

I didn't have as much success as I'd hoped with this plan.

I changed my Paypal email to a new one, but money was sent to the old email address I used to use for Paypal. When I then tried to add the old email address to my Paypal account so that the balance could be transferred, I was told I couldn't because the old email address was already registered in Paypal (even though I had deleted it from the Paypal account yesterday).

So then I logged into Paypal with my old address, and there seemed to be an entirely new account that must have been created once the money was sent to it. I don't recall creating a new one with that old address, after I had deleted it from my existing Paypal account.

So....if money gets sent to an older email address that is no longer affiliated with my Paypal account, why was the entirely new Paypal created for the old address?

All this is giving me a headache!
