The White Envelope thread!

I've noticed that in the eBay-favoring "Free Shipping" era, I've seen more PWE shipments in incidents of free shipping. However, I do see reasonable care being taken to ensure a successful delivery (decoy cards, penny sleeves in semi-rigid holders, protected by Paypal invoice), including veteran sellers.

Assuming the card still arrives in NM-Mt condition, if elements of reasonable care are taken aside from the PWE, are we as a community OK with that? Or is the PWE the single most damning thing a seller can do this side of a fake patch?

I'm curious, because I'm looking to drive down my shipping costs without impacting quality of delivery.

PWEs get sent through the automatic sorting machine, which is where damage can occur. Bubble mailers do not (usually), so there is more "care" within the USPS & CP.

I think if you want to offer an alternative, do that, i.e. $3.50 for shipping in a bubble mailer; $2.25 for shipping in a regular white envelope. At least your buyer then has an option, if they want to save money or prefer the extra padding.

Don't hold me to this, but I think as long as the item is less than 1/4" deep, and uniformly flat, it's still subject to being machine sorted by the USPS - and padded or bubble mailers can sometimes be machine sorted for this reason. I ran into this scenario using an Automated Postage Machine, sending them, then having these items returned to me because there wasn't enough postage to cover the cost as they couldn't be machine sorted.

Of course, it seems USPS's rules are arbitrary guidelines. Just like my use of grammar :)

Here is another;
robtuit

Corners got dinged, not sure if it was the sorting machine, or no tape on the toploader...

Got another this week.

Boardman79 sent a BAP Auto in it.

Luckily it arrived okay.

When will they learn that hardcovers, white envelopes and the USPS sorting machines do not work well together?

Pavel Bure 00/01 BAP Memorabilia Emblem/10

Shipped in a penny sleeve, card saver and PWE -- charged $4

Seller: granits

Based Out of: Russia

The Damage: 2 creases around the emblem swatch (see front page of my photobucket)

The verdict: $10 refund and "I'm not to blame for post offices mishandling"

Right........

Add "tryin4birdies" to the list. Sent my 1/1 printing plate in a PWE despite charging $2.75 for shipping.

Card is fine, but still.

Here's another winner:

ebay ID: airjordan23456

Accepted my offer on a parallel I needed and shipped it in a PWE for $3.00 from BC to AB. Card was thankfully not damaged but I'm not impressed. If he had charged me just a buck less, it might not have hit a nerve!
Set collectors should negate this seller!

ebay seller: ctmste-foy
fees: $3.50 (won two cards, $3.00 for first one, and $0.50 extra for second one)
Sent in white envelope from canada with 6 $0.32 stamps, and two $0.02 stamps. Put in a thin piece of cardboard to one side to help, put both cards in individual soft sleeves, but same jersey-thickness top loader, and in team bag. Thankfully cards arrived OK.

Here's another schmuck to add to the list... ctmste-foy

Won a couple of cards and they arrived today in a white envelope... Thankfully they were not damaged.

I had one where it was a lot for 50 Upper Deck Football RCs. Got the lot cheap but paid 5 bucks for shipping. On the envelope it had 1 stamp to get it to Canada from U.S. and all he had protecting the cards was a piece of paper from the auction wrapped around it. Cards were needless to say damaged and Upper Deck wont do a thing about it but atleast got my money back from the schmuk and left him negative feedback as he felt I didnt deserve a refund because "thats how I send out all my auctions and I've never gotten a complaint before". No holders, soft sleeves or even a padded envelope. Just a white envelope with a piece of paper wrapped around it. And he didnt even give me the right amount of cards.

Plain white envelope shippers stink... especially when they're ignorant Ebay sellers

I just bought a cheap item off Ebay and paid $5.00 for shipping... too bad it arrived in a plain white envelope both of the cards inside of an unsealed toploader. One of the cards was damaged at the bottom and did not match the seller's description.

When given a chance to make good, he told me that I should have purchased insurance when given the chance and he did not have any other copies of the cards... no offer to refund, just attitude! As a result, I had to leave a negative for the first time.

Here's what galled me the most and it's a direct quote from his response to me:

"The card was mint when it was shipped. You paid .99 CENTS for both cards! That's exactly why I don't like dealing with you Canadians. You are all alike wanting something for nothing and then always find something to complain about. Eh?"

Had to take an ignorant shot, I guess... For all of the smooth deals I've had on there, it just goes to show how some people can be. Anyone else have any crazy experiences they want to share?

I thought I beat the curse, but once again, another white envelope seller from Quebec!

ebay ID: sebmajor

The card was just a parallel, but thankfully it arrived safely in a toploader.
Just an FYI for the masses....

The worse in that story is that seller is a big shop, got a white enveloppe from them and I'm a good customer from them.
