This is getting ridiculous!!! eBay no longer allowing check/MO for payment...

The one thing I noticed is that when ebay sends an email it is also in the My Messages in My Ebay. This is not, or at least not mine. Any chance this is a spoof email?
Just a thought.

I have stated i only take paypal in my auctions, and you would be surprised how many requests i get for MO... i wouldnt be surprised if that figure was closer to 5-10% (not just talking about sportscards either)

Yeah, could be. I was just going from personal experience. In a couple of hundred sales, I've had maybe 2 money orders (which I do accept), one cheque (which I don't), and one guy sent four dollars worth of change in a white envelope once. I'm not talking loonies and toonies, either. Nickels, dimes, pennies...I felt like just giving him the card and sending his money back. It was probably his Happy Meal money. I guess it might have been a kid.

Interesting....it's not in mine either. However, the email that was sent to me does have my full name (including middle intial), which spoofs usually don't. If it is a spoof, it's the best one I have seen yet...lol.

Nope....I checked it out before posting....it came in from ebay.ca...

Have either of you sold recently? I just had a batch of auctions end, maybe that's why I got one...

depending where you are on the mailing list, some members may get the message later than others... i know this was the case with a few of the 5cent listing days where i got the My Ebay message almost a day sooner than some other members

i am mostly a buyer so i dont care, but it will be nice not going to have to go to the bank to get a mo. I am sure they did a study and found too many sales were paid with mo or chq which means less $$$ for them. They want more items to sell for higher value (thus the 30 day fixed price decrease) and they will lower up front fees to do so but make it back with the money they make on paypal and the exchange rate. So they changed it. You will now see more auctions ended early so the seller can take a money order or check. my 2 cents

How are they going to regulate shipping charges?

Didn't they implement these rules in Australia only to have it bite them back in the ass?

Kinda mixed on this. I want sellers to take Paypal...sure beats writing a check or buying a money order. And it's a lot faster.

I'll be all for this the day PayPal pulls the 3% charge from where it should -- the pocket of the buyer. PayPal does absolutely nothing to protect me, yet sticks me for the fee. I could care less if every buyer paid me via cheque or MO -- why do I have to pay for their convenience?

I like it. Now I won't have to worry providing buyer flexibility and having to take my lazy *** to the bank to deposit cheques and money orders :D

Higher fees
Less flexibility
Mandating payment processes
Dictating shipping fees (I'm 50/50 n this)
Limited store listings

and the HI Marketplace just looks better and better... you'd almost think I planned it this way! ;)

Much ado about nothing. Many of you forget one simple fact:
No seller worth his salt is going to let something as ridiculous as this asinine eBay policy come between him and a sale. Even many of the sellers who say they only accept paypal will cheerfully make an exception if asked politely.

This isn't going to be enforceable. Mainly because unlike other changes, users won't want it to be so.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. Sellors and buyers can get around this policy because all they need to do is email each other and they can do the payment type that way. They can still leave each other feedback even if the card hasnt been paid for unless there changing that as well?

It's business and profit will always be the reason behind most changes.
If ebay can control the methods of payment, it'll increase profits because they also own PayPal, investors and shareholders will be satisfied. Monopolize whatever parts of a business when legally able.

Ask UD on how to monopolize a product or business. They've increased their profits on hockey products by over an 50% in the last several years and we've all contributed.

If I was a shareholder of ebay stocks, I'd applaude these next steps to increase my investment.

well i average 5 money orders out of 35 sales a month, majority are canadian, but i plan to stop using ebay before oct. bosner show, doubt will reset up. Will wait for bruce to complete H.I.s and stick with that instead

Interesting.

Reading between the lines there:
- eBay is likely tired of hearing buyers whine about sellers. Consider the white envelope thread alone, then multiply by fifty million.
- As they continue to squeeze auctions for revenue, they're likely going to start losing revenue as sellers leave the site.
- One of their solutions is to improve their capture rate for electronically paid auctions. While I'm sure that helps, I don't think it'll hold up.

Quite honestly, I'm less concerned about these changes than I was about the others instituted earlier this year. I'll have to see what kind of actual difference this makes to eBay selling before I pass judgement.

Wait a second here......let me get this straight, you guys are still using Ebay since the new changes earlier in the year??

you have to read the full email to learn that the maximum shipping charges do not apply to those who only sell cards. Ebay is instituting the maximum shipping fee for a few categories only, which include books, dvds, cds, and video games. And, based on what I saw, they will still let people stick it to you on shipping.
