Glad to see word getting out and others helping me out in this area. The more people get familiar with repatched cup rcs and what and who to look for the better!
 
This entire thread is a learning tool. Why would the card companies not take the time to make a photo data base of the items they are selling. It doesn't have to be the low end product. Ultimate, SPx, SPA, Premier, Cup - just take a little time to snap a photo of the patches. Once it gets to the point of not knowing if it is real or fake, many will walk away from this hobby. Stop the bleeding not before it is too late.

Many have walked away from Cup because of this. And everytime you see a thread comparing products ie Cup vs National Treasures this is always the argument brought up. And rightfully so. Or else design the cards so that they can't be repatched.

With Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel etc coming into the hobby this fall, it could lead to a resurgence in premium rookies. Hopefully Upper Deck does something to help protect collectors. Especially with the high end $$$ that will be paid for their RC's.
 
With the use of High speed cameras it wouldn't even slow the product process down. Upper deck has no desire to do anything about it because of two reasons. There has not been enough backlash and it has not hurt the bottom line by doing nothing. Until folks speak with the wallet Upperdeck will continue to do nothing.

Hey I just came across a guy that bought one of the fakes and I'm trying to help him find the original photo for a 2005-06 The Cup Limited Logos Marian Hossa serial 26/50. I couldn't find it on worth point and looked around a bit does anyone by chance have an image of this card before the patch was replaced?

I said this before on SCF, but these high end sets should be modified so that there is a layer of acetate on top that covers the patch. It would be extremely difficult to make modifications without damaging the card at all.

We need to put pressure on UD to do something, may it be a protective layer or a photo archive, and it might be a good idea to start bombarding their FaceBook and Twitter feeds with such requests.

Upper Deck has responded to the Facebook post:

"We are reviewing and looking at a variety of tools to protect our customers. We have tons of preview images that we publish right here on our preview pages, especially of key Cup rookies."

Not sure what they're looking at, but I don't think the preview images solves anything. I even pointed it out in a reply to that post - the tampering is largely going to be on plain patches that aren't shown in the preview posts. Don't the preview posts just show one of the cards? That's not helpful.

At the end of the day UD is not too concerned about the secondary market. Unless they feel it enhances the design of the card, you will continue to get big open windows.

Well, if people stop buying singles because they are concerned about fakes (which is certainly happening), breakers will not open as much. And that certainly hits UD where it hurts.

fakes have been happening for the past ten years and breakers continue to open case after case of product. the madness will never stop b/c they are ignorant to everything or don't think it is that big a deal. i am not part of the singles market so i am not aware how that is effected but from the collectors that i know, most of them don't really like patch cards as much as they used to and i personally don't buy singles and stick to wax.
