Here's the deal. I purchased an All-World 5-auto redemption from the bay a few years back with Vinny, Frolov, and some other guys that I can't remember at the moment, and it was supposed to be numbered to 15. Well, this past March I got a call from Karvin at UD saying they couldn't fulfill the redemptions (even though the site said the autos were in-house and they were trying to make the cards). Well, seeing as how this is a very rare card, and I paid a TON for it, I figured I'd be ok saying some of the bigger names, or some really nice cards of up-and-comers. Well, this is what I get in replacement for it (sorry, no scans at the moment, check my mailday this weekend):

02-03 SP Authentic Future Watch Auto RC Rick Nash /999
06-07 SP Authentic Sign of the Times Sidney Crosby SP

Now, don't even get me started on them using current cards as replacements, but honestly, looking at the current BV's of these two cards, they don't even come close to what I paid IN CASH for the redemption card. Now, that is probably my fault for paying so much for a redemption card, let alone the card in general in the first place. But seriously, I think I got shafted by the UD stick on this one.

Sorry, end of rant.

First off, Im Chris and I love your banner! Second, you definitely got screwed over, even though those are two awesome cards they sent you, from what it sounds like, you paid A LOT for that redemption. I have yet to come across a redemption but I hope I never have a problem like this because UD never seems to please anyone.

This is why I'm sitting on my 04-05 SOTT quad for the long haul. With the amount I (over)paid for it, if my package isn't Orr or Gretzky AND numbered AND on-card, then I'm not going to be happy. Good luck on the remedy.

I'm surprised it didn't get made. You could always PM Karvin and ask him about it. He's (to me) the saving grace of UD.

That totally ****s CJ but no offence UD doesn' really have to take into consideration what you paid for the card. You said so yourself its probably your fault for paying so much... They sent you 2 nice cards that get a good chunk of change. Is it fair? Not really but its not completely out of line... heck anyone could say, "hey I paid XXX amount of money for this card, I want that back"- doesn't really work like that.

Anyways, its definitely a downer and honestly I feel for you because I know how crazy you can get and I think I remember what you paid for this... I think they still owe you at least 1 nice heavy card in the same vein as the 2 they sent you.

That's disgraceful.

I had this discussion with Karvin over a couple cards. Karvin - and UD - are reluctant to accept that if they want people to be happy with replacements, it's got to be comparable value back.

Exchange

Guys lets take a step back and honestly review the situation. The cards Lecavalier fan received would sell on ebay in the 350-400 range. How much do you think his card is truly worth?

If you look at it from another perspective I bet if a collector had the Nash and Crosby in his account he would feel unsatisfied receiving the Lecav in question as an exchange. All UD can strive for is to provide equivelant value in exchange. It is unfortunate when UD is not able to produce a card but at times it is unavoidable.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts,

CJ,

Sorry to hear about this man. I agree with Mr.October5. Even though you got 2 nice cards they're nearly not as good as what you gave up for them. Sorry buddy.

If it makes you feel better you're still my friend on Hi5. :D

Craig, is that you?

CJ, there are some players in the league that you just know they sell extremely well when it comes to the lower print runs and most of here know Vinny is one of them. And to make it worse your a Lecav collector so it stings just that much more. I would contact them and ask where can you send back your replacement cards because it's completely unacceptable. The issue here is UD doesn't care if the customer is happy, they don't take player collectors serious enough. They assume...hmm sid auto this should keep their mind off their card and 9 out of 10 times that works, but not with player collectors. A Lecavalier collector could care less about Rick Nash, regardless of book values.

What is more disturbing to me is you got the EXACT same 2 replacement cards as someone else over on beckett. So I guess the Sid SOTT and Nash SPA rc are last years AO Black Diamond? Exactly how many of these things are stashed away? Exactly how many will be given away?

Hey guys, thanks for your comments. Unfortunately I haven't had any time at all to call Karvin so far but I hopefully will tonight. Does anyone know Karvin's name on here? Maybe I could try PMing him as well as call.

Ok, umm...are you kidding? I bet if they "Nash and Crosby" collectors got a 5-auto that included Lecavalier, they would be jumping for joy simply because of the cash it could bring in. This is no where near an equivalent exchange value for the card that I was supposed to get. I paid about 50% more for the redemption than what these two cards have a book value of. Cash value I wouldn't get probably 50% of their book value, which means about 33% of what I paid. Fair? I think not.

I feel for ya man..

I had a spezza copper parallel auto from artifacts I think #/75 and they sent me an unnumbered John Leclair auto...

Sorry to hear. As Vinny stated some others have been getting the Crosby SOTT as a replacement. Soon the card will be worth $100...

I am worried about my Sundin/Steen replacements.

My questions is: Does UD look at BV's when the redemptions were sold or today after collectors know the card isn't produced and the BV drops big time? For example, I paid $130 for one of the cards, I know see them going for less than $50 because Sundin collectors know the cards isn't being produced. I sure hope they give me a replacement of the BV i paid when bought and not today's price.

Apology

I apologize. I had no idea that the Nash dropped in value from 250-100 since March. I always thought of the card as a 200-250 card. I guess 1 bad season can really burn you.

Seems like the same situation as my Toivonen/Kipper Dual auto RC.
UD is saying it doesn't matter what you paid for it or that you can actually prove what you paid for it. They have to cover their you know what since there could be a lot of fibbers out there.
They are only taking into consideration what the current BV is and for darn sure it is going to go down on most ALL cards that won't be produced. I put my redemption is 12 months ago when it was $100-125BV and now.....on it way down to $50-60 when it still shouldn't even be worth that much because IT ISN'T GOING TO BE MADE.
In your case it is such a rare card and demand for it is so high that what type of value do you put on it? $300? $500? 750?
I feel for you.....guess my case is nothing compared to yours.
Good luck and best wishes with better compensation;)

This is why I don't buy redemption cards anymore, no matter how cheap it is. Whether it's UD, DHL or the players themselves that are to blame it's just not worth the time, money or effort. I'd rather pay double the price for the live version of the card than buy a redemption where I "might" get it. Gambling is for box breakers not for people that pick up singles on the secondary market!

Devil's advocate.....

So what happens if you buy a redemption when it first comes out for $50 and it becomes an SP like the SPx Flashback Fabrics and lists for $1000 months later? Does UD only replace it with the $50 you spent originally? Does the collector have the right to demand $1000 in compensation? It's a whole new bag of worms...

Simple... DO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR THE COLLECTOR. No worries puck, this isn't about you, but it seems like UD is more concerned with covering its assets rather than give the collector the benefit of the doubt and salvaging what little goodwill it has left among the collecting community. Nice way to strike a blow to the hobby UD... nickel and dime collectors while at the same time say you're trying to revamp your programs

Quick little update...

I called Karvin twice yesterday for a total of about an hour total and we had a good discussion. He was very helpful and I just want to publicly thank him for taking the time to talk to me and helping me feel better about the situation.

If we have outstanding redemptions do we wait until UD confirms they won't be making them, or do we have the option of getting a replacement for any card that is still "in production"?
