UD Redemption replacement mail...not pleased!

I apologize. I had no idea that the Nash dropped in value from 250-100 since March. I always thought of the card as a 200-250 card. I guess 1 bad season can really burn you.

as Chris calls him "It's Chad Capone over at UD. The big redemption guy"

Awesome, he doesnt keep up on book values

Just another reason why I avoid those stupid redemptions. If I pull one I sell it. Every since the 15 month wait for my Orr/Bouwmeester SOTT I avoid redemptions. Even after all the trouble UD had over the past 2-3 years with their poor redemption service they still can't get it right.

Redemptions are just a waste & I am glad to see some of you members realize this.If you open a box & get a redemption it makes ya feel like you only pulled a common card because the waiting game is totally uncalled for.Just my Opinions.

Well...at the time he redeemed it that card was worth more ;) Isn't that what CJ was talking about...the price he paid for it way back then.

Anyways, just glad CJ and K had a talk and hopefully everything's good.

Chris what I'm talking about is he just got the card, therefore it was just "redeemed" and they didnt know the value of the Nash? Dont know what he paid, but the redemption was based on book value.

What about cards that dont book, is it the perceived value by UD or the collectors?? How is "fair" value come to would be my question?

Maybe these cards shouldn't be allowed to be auctioned off on ebay until the card is redeemed & the seller actually has the card in hand, again my opinion.

By collectors I meant Market Value, I'm sure you have noticed when trying to make a deal what people feel there card is worth.
Glad it is worked out though

wow I didn't know that either... I was still under the impression it was a $200-250 card also.

This changes things.

Sorry to hear. As Vinny stated some others have been getting the Crosby SOTT as a replacement. Soon the card will be worth $100...

I am worried about my Sundin/Steen replacements.

My questions is: Does UD look at BV's when the redemptions were sold or today after collectors know the card isn't produced and the BV drops big time? For example, I paid $130 for one of the cards, I know see them going for less than $50 because Sundin collectors know the cards isn't being produced. I sure hope they give me a replacement of the BV i paid when bought and not today's price.

Can't wait, Sid's auto's are way too high.

Although not worth what you paid for the "fives" at least UD made some attempt to give you some value back. It could of been worse, could have been SOT of a couple of smoes who sell for a buck or two and a common game jersey.

It seems to me that your complaints are being heard by UD and that the redemption error on Nash BV was an honest mistke. I dealt with Chad this past week and he was most helpful. Just my opinion.

It will continue to drop if they are included in so many replacements. I think people need to realize when a replacement is being exchanged with the same type of card over and over again it destroys the value of the card. Just look at last years Ovechkin Black Diamond issue, you would think after that whole mess it would have been taken into consideration 12+ months later. And next thing you know you see people getting Sid Sott's and Nash SPA rcs, down arrows here we come :)

Redemption cards should not exist unless they can guarantee that the card will be made. If you buy a card expecting to get it, you should get the card OR you should be compensated the exact dollar amount that you paid for the card. I really don't think this is unreasonable at all... If UD leads you to believe that a card will be made and you buy the redemption for it and it doesn't get made then they should compensate you 100% in CASH plus interest for however long you waited for the card at fair interest rate. Of course this is fair, but Upper Deck is not a fair company and care NOTHING about the collector for the most part so this will never happen, but it is FAIR and if they just keep putting redemptions in packs and don't even know if the card will be made or not, that is not fair to collectors at all and they shopuld have to pay for it. I know this will fall on deaf ears and that Upper Deck truly only cares about the bottom dollar, but I really don;t think its too much to ask at all...

Thats my 2 and a half cents worth...

I'm sorry to hear that the card you wanted does not exist. Especially since you apparently paid a lot of money for it. However, you have to keep in mind that redemptions are always a gamble. That card in particular was high risk because it required the signatures of 5 players who were scattered around the world during the lockout.

Its actually a good thing that UD doesn't have replacement cards similar to that one simply because it means not all of the super short print runs are in the product. Your Nash and Sid cards demonstrate that UD holds back valuable cards to use as replacements in their ridiculous redemption program. Thats just wrong! I guess thats why their boxes say "sequentially numbered to 5" rather than "only five of each card available."

In my humble opinion redemption cards should not be permitted....period. Would you go the store and buy a refrigerator and then wait 16 months only to find they sent you a washing machine because the refrigerator manufacturer went out of business? Of course you wouldn't.

A card that never existed was sold at least twice and bought once at a high price. I can't put all the blame on UD for this one.

As someone else said, be greatful you didn't get a box with 50 common Sign of the Times in it.

Crank, that couldn't possibly work. Lets see, you put a low numbered redemption card on EBAY. A friend "buys" it for $1,000. Once its determined the card will not be produced Upper Deck should pay you $1,000?

What puzzles me is how can UD justify the long wait for a replacement card? If a player doesn't sign after say 3 months I'd think theres pretty good reason to believe hes just never going to sign.

I was at a show where one of my redemption card players was signing. I told him it took nerve to charge $25 for his auto at a show yet he couldn't honor his card contract. Guess what? Shortly after he signed the cards.

It WOULD work, because Upper Deck wouldn;t put cards in the sets that they weren't sure if they would be able to redeem or not... It's not anyone's fault except for Upper Deck, they are the only people to blame here people, and if you think that someone else is to balme for bidding high on a redemption card then thats just dumb. If the redemption card is in the product then their should be a guarantee that the card will be made, especially when we are talking about sticker autographs in which every single player on that card has had other redemptions sent out, so there is absolutely no expanation for this and I think that Upper Deck owes CJ and big fat check for what he paid for the card, never mind sending him cards that he doesn't care about, what he cares about is getting his money back for a card that he believed would be made and should have been made!

Crank

Have you ever read the statement on a redemption card? UD makes it pretty clear that the card may never be produced. It goes on to say a comparable trading card will be sent. There is no mention of value and that is certainly intentional. Comparable is a very vague term in this case (hockey for hockey, auto for auto, GJ for GJ? who really knows?).

Those of us who have been in this hobby (or business or whatever it is) for any length of time know UD's reputation regarding redemptions. If you're going to spend a lot of money on a redemption card you need to know, going in, that the card may never be produced and that you might not like what you get in its place.

There is nothing new here.
