UD Series 1 Young Guns Damage?

nope that's not it. It's on the front of the card and if you slide your finger across the front of the card you can feel the indent..........

I just busted a case last night.

Yg `s where all in decent shape.

I got this on a bunch of base, are these the rollermark you guy`s are talkin about ?

I have a lot of base cards like this but I didn't care because they're base...

I checked some young guns and they do seem to have a slight indent on the front. No big deal.

it's more an indent..like something pushed it in. it's very faint so if you tilt to a certain angle under the light you'll see it. i have them on the back of some of my YGs

The Young Guns from my one box looked good front and back under every lighting angle I could find. Considering I pulled a Tavares, I am pretty happy about that. :)

I opened a box, the YGs were mint but i had a couple brutally beaten up base cards with bent corners and the whole bit. I imagine the mint YGs are going to get quite a premium.

I opened a box and the YGs are in mint shape: Tavares checklist, Rosehill, Scott, Machacek, Bitz and Shirokov.
One card did make me roll my eyes, though: A case hit Signature Sensations of Lauri Tukonen, who's listed as playing with Tampa Bay, is shown playing for Dallas and is actually playing in Finland.
How is he "rewarded" with an auto card?

I look at them closelly, like a grader would do, and didnt notice dammage

All mine look fine. Maybe it's isolated to an early part of the run.

Taught the same thing, maybe its just a dammaged batch like they where in the 9.99$ tins at walmarts from last year.

I think the 50-60-70% numbers are a bit of an exaggeration but there clearly is a problem though.

I bought 2 boxes at the expo today..One had the marks on the young guns and one did not. Upper Deck had replacements flown in and cards were replaced 1 for 1...Good for Upper Deck for acting so fast to correct the situation...It wilol be a nightmare but if you are patient they will replace them...
Wouldn't want to be the quality control guy:eek:

So is it safe to sell them on ebay without having to mention the marks if it affects pretty much the entire run?

no, even if it was the entire print run you STILL mention that the card is DAMAGED. That would be a pretty weasley thing not to mention the damage and why would you not want to mention it? Sure your auctions will finish higher than people who are mentioning the damage on their auctions, but do u think these people are just gonna take the damage and not say or do anything? By not saying anything you would be just setting yourself up yourself for paypal claims and a whole lotta hassle.

Great if you are at the Expo, but the majority of collectors are not. With the way the value of Young Guns drops after a week or so, its quite a kick in the teeth for those collectors.

There's not an ideal solution for this, but there definitely could have been a more equitable one. Those who don't attend the Expo not only have to wait, but they have to pay for shipping.

A friend opened a case a few days ago...every YG had the roller marks. He talked to UD yesterday and today. All his YGs were replaced today, plus they threw in a few extra.

that's a whole lot of ygs to be replaced by ud.. do they hold back more than 30% of the YG production or something?

I posted this in the other thread, but here it is again:
UD went several extra miles for the YG issue:
On Thursday when the issue first came to light, they had an urgent high-level meeting. By Friday, sleeves of fresh, unblemished YG replacements were being packaged up from the printers to be sent to Expo and overseen by no less a person than UD's CFO (according Karvin). They were overnighted, expedited through customs and actively being put into use by Saturday afternoon.

That's Extra Mile, folks. I'm very willing to call'em on the carpet when they screw up, but it would be dishonest of me not to give them proper recognition and thanks for when they really do it right - this was fixing it right.

Additionally, in response to Trish's comment:
Apparently, YG replacements are being given to distributors after the close of Expo with instructions to spread the word and expedite card replacement as best they can. Not an ideal solution, but a pretty good one.

Are these traceable in anyway, or did they just send people home with packs of minty-fresh Tavares YGs?

There's good people in the hobby, but there's a fair number of scum bags too. And these scum bags seem to have impressive connections.

UD screwed up bad. Going the extra mile for a select few collectors in Toronto doesn't help the majority.

My box was good in terms of condition, but I would be choked if it hadn't been, and I had to jump through hoops when other collector got theirs replaced on the spot, plus a few extra. Extras if they are getting them on the spot is kind of sketchy anyways.

If you got yours replaced on the spot, I can see how it is going the extra mile. From my position, its a pretty disgusting situation, that could very easily cause more problems in the future.

Also note: none of this puts a swatch in my Lupul jersey card. Nor does it give me any confidence that UD is seriously addressing their QC. If this hadn't happpened at Expo, I think there would be a lot of people on hold.

Extra mile or not it means nothing to me as I have 72 young guns from my case and every one had the roller mark. I will make the call tomorrow for what I suspect will be a painfully long wait on hold followed by an even more painful experience to get them replaced................and I can't wait to open the pack of victory that they send with the replacements to say sorry........
