I saw a Highland Mint Lemieux rookie reprint that was graded, can't remember if it was PSA or SGC and it did really well compared to the original slab. Maybe it was an Orr, but certainly a Highland Mint.

I've seen this done before. It could hurt resale value if you ever go to sell the card after that. Some collectors prefer the original packaging the card was sealed in.
