Well just so every one knows, the advance listing is out on the THE CUP and the Crosby rookie is at $3500.00.Congradulations to everyone that was lucky enought to pull one.I was not one of those lucky people.Thanks,Winston.

I noticed that most want more than that and for the really nice patches a lot more.I still believe that if these young players have great careers that THE CUP will parallel the Basketball Exquisite. But it will take 3 years plus to find out. But these young guys need to be stars and super stars in the NHL like Lebron, and Wade are in the NBA.Just my thoughts.Thanks,Winston.

Ovechkin $3000.00
Brule $400.00
Lundqvist $400.00
Wolski $250.00
Phaneuf $900.00

I hope that you ave either Ovechkin or Phaneuf.I would not part with either of those two or a Crosby unless the offer was out of this world. Those three cards have no where to go but up in value. All three will be stars in this leaque for a long time if they stay injury free.Thanks,Winston.

Brule at $400? Me thinks you'll see some up arrows on that one shortly...LOL....especially since the price on all of them seem to be creeping higher and higher.....

There is a problem with our bible of a price guide right now.As collectors we talk about it being listed so high. Why doen't the book reflex the real market place.Everyones favourite collecting hole, the bay.Well here we have an example of this is in complete reverse.Everything on the bay is selling for a lot more than it is listed for.So when someone ask what you will sell your card for.will you say,"Let me see now it list for $200.00 so I want $600.00 for it"Or will you say it list for $200.00 so I think I want half of guide.I truely believe at least in the short term everyone will be going with option #1.To me its just a matter of those few people that influence the price guides prices by submitting local sales wanting to cash in on buying the stuff cheap and reselling it at a later date when they can once again submit local sales as going through the roof.Weather we like or not, weather or not you think the bay is a true test for market value or not.It still all centers around that price guide. And if something is listed for what every the price people will want it at a fraction of its printed value.Yes there may be a few peope out there that this does not hold true for.But over the collecting world that god all might price guide is the biggest influence in this hobby. With the bay running a very close second. There I feel better. My rant for the day and maybe for months.
Thanks,Winston.

it ****s to use ebay prices at card shows . But I have been to shows where people just want those cards to flip on the Michael Ebay anyways. There are alot of collectors who dont trade online and don't use ebay also.

So ebay should and can be used to reflect the bigger items as it should be. You know beckett isnt heading out to each show and doesn't have correspondence all over either.

You'll see up arrows across the board in the next few months. The rookies are climbing higher and higher, especially some of the second tier guys not named Ovechkin, Crosby, Phaneuf and Lundqvist. Gotta love those turn and burn sellers from the other sports.....sweet swatches seem to be commanding a good premium too....

You guys are aware that this is based on incomplete data, right? This reflects the first couple weeks of sales only. It's possible that it'll change before it goes to print. Moreover, they're very receptive to input - I give them all of my sales data on shorter printed stuff.

And having said that - it's a guide. Not a catalogue.

The way cup singles (base includeD) have been getting hotter and hotter by day it will be impossible to price them to make everyone happy. book value wont ever mean much for this set because its basically if someone needs the card it will sell for 2-3x bv no issue. i think up/down arrows will be used on a regular basis for this set for a long while.

how much for a nice 3 color parise??? how much to auto patch rc commons book for? also need help on seabrook, gorges, christiansen and flipulla..thanks..

chakhae1 I wouldnt worry about the bv. Bv on the cup rookies will mean nothing. here is proof, $3500bv normally means a card is selling in the $1500-2500 range. $3,451 for a 1 color they will continue to sell for overbook

Well - the true price of a card can be found on ebay - not Beckett. If I offer a card to a dealer nowadays, they immediately go online - determine what the card is selling for, and offer me an amount accordingly. Beckett is slowly becoming irrelevant - as Quincy says, it is a guide - not a catalogue. Beckett has some good hobby reports, and it is fun to see the cracked boxes and auto page. But what can you say about a guide that can Grade a card and give it a better value than its rival PSA based on a name. A little bit self-serving, incestuous - whatever you want to call it.
