What do you do in this situation?

I'm sure some of you guys have had a similar situation. Ebay item with a high BIN price. Back and forth and you make your highest offer. Once again, you get a counter offer......

So I had enough as my price was well more than fair for this item. So I declined. Probably am already 50-100 bucks over the sale value.

After I decline I get a message... "resend your last offer and I'll accept it"

I hate greed, and this is it in my eyes, so I tried to walk away.

But...... I really want the card! LOL, morals vs. collecting.

Anyway, I know what I am going to do, what would you guys do? Love to see some resonses.

I would want to walk away too.

So I it would depend on how bad I needed or wanted the card.

If I didn’t need it that bad and could find it in near future I would either walk or send a lower offer to send a message.
 
I have a guy sending me a weekly novel because I turned down his offer on an extremely rare card. He types in all caps and brings up bible versus while calling me a liar. Over a $50 card. I refuse to sell the card at this point, yet his offers keep coming.
 
I've had deals in person where something like this happens, and the thing about that is, in person, you've established a true connection, had a bit of chit chat, maybe joked a bit... and most often than not, either as the buyer or the seller, I've been okay with settling to the other number. With no personal connection on-line, negotiation loses all of the nuance.

If you really want it, and you were willing to buy it at that price before, and you say no now... who are you really punishing? I'd say yourself.

Make them sweat a bit. Let them wait a few hours/days and then send your offer again, but less than your last offer. Even if it is only a few dollars less. And make it clear this is your absolute last offer. You already showed you were willing to walk away once. If they are smart, they won't take a second chance you will walk away for good.
 
The dude probably just wanted to get the best return possible. Doesn’t hurt to try. I would just buy the card at the agreed price and you both can be happy.
 
Dont care about it, take them and add them To your pc... otherwise you will be unsatisfied With your decission some times...
 
I've walked from deals that I didn't want to overpay for.... but I've also caved and bought the card even through a tough negotiation period. I just wanted the card real bad.

If you like the card and can justify the cost v card, I say do the deal. Once the card finally arrives you'll forget about the price.
 
Looks like he was just driving up the price on his side of things.

Unless it is a very rare card, I would walk away. Good chance you will end up having issues with how the card is mailed or when it gets mailed. Feedback.

To me this is a red flag.
 
Yeah, when you're talking about a card with that low a print run you need to pull the trigger. Who knows if you would ever see another one and even then the price could be much higher.
 
Depends how badly you need the card.

I would walk away personally. I do not collect 1 single player so I do not have many whales that I REALLY need.

Everyone's collection differs. No two collections or collectors are the same.

I am huge on spite. I would wait and try to get it cheaper one day. If there is a dialogue between you two I would keep it casual and feign your ongoing lack of interest in the card at that time/anymore. You should get it cheaper one day.

Anyways, someone recently offered me 25% on a bunch of cards. I countered at around 75%. They countered at 25%. (wtf?). Again I counter at 75% and they counter at 33% so I declined. I then blocked the user because I have no use for low-ballers like this. He later messages me and says he spends $3000 a month on cards and I'm a dick and blah blah blah. So I did not respond as I am thinking "if you spend $3000 a month on cards and I have over 4000 100% feedback why have I not encountered you before?"

Just my 2 cents.
 
It was a game of chicken and he blinked first. I can't really begrudge the guy for trying, but good on you for knowing where to draw the line. Sounds like it's a done deal so I'm glad it was amicable in the end. I just might've let them sweat it out a bit out of spite first like others have suggested :)

With that low of a print run, you just never know, so maybe you were going to overpay for it no matter what. If it was a price you could stomach, that's the important thing.
 
I've had similar situations before which I usually accept. But never that much over what I thought was fair value.
 
Consider this a notch in your win column. My difficult negotiations in buying almost always goes like that. I've said "this is the highest I'm willing to pay", I'll get a decline, I'll wait and then they'll come back knowing that that is the best price they'll get for their card.

You just got this seller to tap out.
 
I’ve always walked away but /15 is the rarest that’s happened to me for. Not sure if I could walk away on a /5 card

You should be really happy. You got the card at the price you were comfortable paying. That's what a negotiation is. Of course the seller will try and get the most possible. Why do people categorize that as greed? It's smart business practice. I find buyers get a little too upset over situations like this. Even if the seller was being unreasonable, it's still his item and he can ask for whatever he wants. He may not end up selling it but it's his decision.

Instead of declining, you also could have sent your offer again (exact same amount) with a note saying "this is the best I can offer" and the decision is then up to him. That's what I do all the time.
