When do you stop collecting a player?

...when you realize the # of cards produced of said player is like the neverending story.

even when i tried to focus on certain lecavalier cards, it just became ridiculous the number of cards they were producing of him.

Basically what Ern just said goes for me as well. I had to stop a few years ago because it was just too ridiculous to keep going as I was for him. So, I switched to doing Caps RC's. It's much more meaningful to me as a Capitals fan for basically my whole life, plus it gives me some insight to the early stages of the franchise before I was born or started watching. Plus, I'll always have a few rookies to go after every year! :)

basically the fun thing. ive switched my collecting habits so many times its ridiculous over the years. i still collect o'sullivan, but i have added only 1 card in who knows how long and unless he sticks with the coyotes(hoping!) he isnt getting many more in the foreseeable future. i have even started moving some of my doubles of his. other than that my only player collection is wayne simmonds but picking up his base and other lower ends i wait until things get boring just to change things up and i also collect andrei loktionov, but he has like 15 total cards so im not missing anything besides cup plates.

now i just kinda collect things i like the look of, i just finished my silhouette /99 set and now im just picking up cards for my kings collection(really like the panini doughty/quick/bernier with the vintage jersey pieces from the season opener). i also just started picking up quad jersey of single players with 4 different color swatches...colorful and cheap so i like them haha

I always thought I'd stop collecting Iginla if he ever got traded. But then as others had said, the number of cards that were coming out made me refocus my collecting and I shifted to collecting auto'ed cards I really, really liked and also to start collecting Iginla base, inserts and parallels. So I think I would always collect Iginla's stuff unless MAYBE he went to a team I really hated like Edmonton or Vancouver.

For me, pretty much like every one else said - when it stops being fun!
I started out collecting Pavel Bure years ago (Early 90's). Sold off the entire collection of his except for commons - which I still collect, because trying to get all the expensive stuff was not fun anymore, and chasing down hundreds of parallels was impossible.

After collecting Bure, I went on to try to collect cards of every player that ever played hockey for the University of Michigan, after a few years, and over 4000 different cards, I started selling off those player collections (and still am selling them off today), and am only focusing on a few players that I got to watch play alot or that I met at games over the years.

I've collected Dallas Drake since he was a rookie, and only collect commons and some nicer cards when I can afford them up of Yzerman and Lidstrom, and do an autograph or jersey set once in a while.

But basically when it's not fun anymore, I stop collecting a player.
