Who do you have for the 2017-18 Hart Trophy?

Starting to lean heavily towards MacKinnon. I just don't think the votes will go Tkachuk's way.

Ima throw out Rinne's name to add to the other mention up above. His season is becoming Hasek-esque.

The pool is way too deep this year at forward, sadly he probably won't even crack the top 5 voting.

Rantenan. Joking...MacKinnon without a doubt.

Not that much of a joke. He's been on a tear and if he stays on one he may end up top 5 in the NHL in scoring!

No love for Eric Staal. What a year his putting up

Read the first post, I put him in the mix for sure. He's definitely had a renaissance this year, incredible stats for an "old guy".

I've never really been someone who puts a lot of stock in who wins which awards, especially the Hart... mainly because there are years where a player gets no consideration because his team is crap, but wouldn't have won 5 games without the player (Mogilny in Vancouver and Vernon in Calgary way back when come to mid)... and some years a player is rallied against by some voters when they clearly deserved the award (Iggy).

But hot damn, I REALLY want Taylor Hall to win the Hart this year. That would be just awesome.

Ok, that made me laugh for obvious reasons.

That aside, I think that is some of the logic behind a guy like McDavid winning it. I also think this is applicable to the West vs East coast bias. There are truly some players who have deserved awards out West in the last decade who have been screwed by the PHWA. Sometimes I kind of chuckle when I hear such and such player won this award because I know a few others who should have had it based on statistics alone.

But I digress, it is going to be a photo finish on this one, there are quite a few horses in this race. I think the last couple weeks will help cement the finalists as their performances will be fresh in peoples mind even though it's an award for the entire season.

For some guys like MacKinnon and Hall their team success may sway voters on their ballot. Others like McDavid and Malkin will probably just have to make the highlight reel a few more times to get their nod.

Honestly, this is the best Hart Trophy race I've seen in quite some time.

Malkin if I'm completely bias.....he done well....MacKinnon and McDavid deserve considerations too. Maybe more so since Malkin has more back up for off nights. Kessel maybe...he has benifited from not being in the limelight of TO.

Sums it up in a nutshell. All good points made in your larger quote. I honestly think it looks like these three will be on the ballot if things continue the way the are going:

1 - MacKinnon
2 - Kucherov
3 - Hall

I wouldn't be totally baffled to see McDavid and/or Malkin on the ballots, but I don't think they'll make the cut, imho.

MacKinnon, is the favourite.
I think Giroux deserves some votes as well. Switched to wing this year for the team and is now top 5 in the scoring race along with a very young squad.

Hall has had a great season not sure if he's done enough.

I think if McDavid keeps scoring and wins the race by 8 or more points then he wins. Also Mac in Colorado and Hall in NJ will get some votes if their teams hold on and make it!!! I also assume we’ll see some votes for Malkin, Crosby, Wheeler, Rinne, Giroux and Tkachuk.

One name not mentioned that would have had a shot if he had not missed around 15 games is Brad Marchand, I think he is second or third in points per game this year. Plays a lead role on really good Bruins team, plus 5 OT winners so he comes up big when needed. Though in reality he would never win because everyone hates him so, lol.

My best,

Ken

I had him in the mix..........:)

Interesting and exciting race this year for the Hart.

I honestly can't remember this many worthy candidates in a season in a LONG time, a really long time, like back in the 90's long time.

Just off the top of my head guys I've been thinking are in the hunt are:

Malkin
Kessel
Kucherov
Stamkos
MacKinnon
Giroux
Taylor Hall
Blake Wheeler

Annnnnnnnnnnnd
Jonathan Marchessault :)

Some guys on the bubble but definitely in the discussion IMO are:

Gaudreau
Kopitar
Eric Staal
Marchand
Barkov
Voracek
William Karlsson

Also Sid, McJesus, and Ovie will get their obligatory support and votes though the Oil are awful and McDavid really shouldn't be in the convo.
