Why do people do this...

I did, here is the response...the sleeve and plastic were not the best, thats the reason i opened it so people could see the card and corners are perfect.

Do you still have the original holder with the seal intact. Or did you split the seal to open it.

still have the loader and seal open not split

I see the listing has ended... so for those that want to know... No I did not get it.

Ahh question answered. I wonder who ended up with it?

For me, if the toploader is damaged to the point where it may affect the card, the loader's getting changed, period. Outside of that I'm just too lazy to bother, or care, for that matter. It's nice to have the card in it's "original" condition but I'm not going to lose sleep over it if it's not. Even with the seal broken, the loader is still doing it's job and that's all I ask.

All my cards are scanned and stored with the intent to never see the light of day. They are in the same condition and as vivid as the day I received them. If I want to look again later on I fire up photo bucket.

Great thread/discussion!

But this particular comment blows my mind. Why even own the cards if all you really need is a picture?

To those that mentioned adequate protection and scratches. This is affected by the amount of handling received. All my cards are scanned and stored with the intent to never see the light of day. I do the same thing really. I like to look at them all together and there is just no way to do that except on the computer.

My problem with this is the following:

As a seller, why on earth would you take it out of the top loader when that will more than likely hurt your sale value? Unless it was damaged, I will never understand that. If you are planning on keeping it in your PC then do what you want with it but if you are looking to sell it.... bah just makes no sense to me.

Really?

I regularly lay several of my cards out on my dining room table and enjoy them.

They are much more presentable when you have them, themselves, versus looking at pictures of them. I think Murray even said above that it was about presentation. If you only need to look at pictures who cares what they come in, they never see the light of day anyway.

That's the thing with collecting, value really is what a collector are willing to pay. The more people who want it the more valuable. If you are unhappy with the state of the card then I say walk a way from it. It do suck especially for such a high end card of such a popular player. It will likely hurt the resell value of the card.
Thanks for the chuckle. He hasn't been popular for quite awhile now... except to maybe me...and a few of his cards to Murray.

I see the auction was abruptly ended.. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

A display case also works well. Just get one with UV glass if you are worried about fading.

I think it has more to do with the card being "uncirculated" than anything else. I like that thought, that in theory, no one has had their grubby hands the card except the player if it was signed and an ITG employee, who most likely handled the card with more care than I would. For me, that is where the appeal comes from.

That's a great description - "uncirculated".

As for Arthur's comments... the sealed toploaders add class to the product, especially when you open it. They also add an extra level of protection for shipping the boxes. If I'm dropping $400-$450 on a book of Superlative, I want to see that ITG has spent time securing and protecting the cards.

B.

Just FYI: Sakic sold for $800 and the Brett Hull at auction recently for just over $500. Given that Gabby has a dedicated core of very jealous and competitive collectors, $1K isn't an outlandish sum of money for this card.

IF they want it.

Who in there right mind would pay $800 for a Sakic? :)

I have 10 cards in my PC from the 2 versions of Superlative, I have taken every one of them out of their toploader to put into a one touch. Then again, I dont plan on re-selling any. I just want my PC to have a uniformed look.

ITG should offer a service where you can send in any sealed Superlative card (with sticker intact) along with a case of your choosing and for a small fee + postage, they reseal it in your new, desired case with a new sticker.

best of both worlds. :)

or go the way of Topps and jsut use one touch magnetic holders from the get go!

I know my question is off topic but what should a 1/1 stick rack sell for really? I would be suprised if it brought in 400 let alone 2000.00.

I say if you are keeping it break seals all you want, with selling I say keep it orginal as possible

As an eBay Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
LOL -- condition: Brand New: An item that has never been opened or removed from the manufacturer’s sealing. Item is in original shrink wrap. See the seller's listing for full details

plus i think the seller put it back in backwards. ;)

that's the way ITG puts the cards in... drives me nuts! lol

Murray... go get it! ;)

He told Murray the seal was peeled open but not cracked, I guess he figured he could reseal it again without anybody noticing :)

Bah - that's like taking a new book in the bathroom and then trying to put it back on the shelf... it's tainted George, TAINTED!

;)
