World Junior daily thoughts!

With $200+ tickets and a half empty arena, the undiscussed story is how this is affecting the players and their game. They certainly notice it. Outrageous NHL ticket prices for junior hockey is pricing this tournament out of the range of most fans. Especially only two years after having this same tournament in the same arena.

Wait until next year when people charge Winter Classic like prices for USA/Canada outdoors in Buffalo.

Also: Can't wait for USA/Canada for Gold. Should be an awesome game

Parsons was amazing.

Canada's team play was very good. However, it seemed like the individual skill set of the US forward players was a bit more dynamic than Canada's, especially when it came to stick handling.

Liked the top dmen on both sides. Soild skaters and puck movers. Chabot had a great tourney.

I am a bit disappointed in Strome and Dubois, as I expected more. Really disappointed at Dubois that he missed the open net opportunity late in the 3rd. He just wasn't ready for a pass back from Barzal. I don't see either of these two as top line C in the NHL. Jost needs to bulk up a bit.

Dude, the ticket prices are insane. I went to the USA-Finland game in Buffalo a few years ago and paid like $120 for average seats. That's a lot of money for that kind of game.

Congrats to the U.S.A.,especially Parsons and Terry.
Young man is lethal five-hole on breakaways.Stupid
way for a classic game to end IMO but what are you
gonna do.Dems da rules.

There's a bit of fatigue with the event being in Canada every second year for this decade. Hockey Canada is going to have to reassess what prices they charge for the ticket packages, even USA hockey holding it in Buffalo or Grand Forks. Maybe you can charge top dollar for the marquee games, but when you make it such that in order to buy them, you have to buy the package at NHL prices - it's failed miserably in Toronto and Montreal.

Hockey Canada got lazy after holding it in Calgary and Edmonton, where the appetite was soaked up with oil money still flowing around here.

I think the final was the best world jr game I ever watched and I have watched every year since the 80's. I don't like the shoot out for the playoff round or championship game. Even when Canada won the gold by shoot out I still didn't like it. Both teams played hard and deserved to battle it out for the gold medal. However shoot out is the rules so a big congrats to team USA. Both teams should keep their heads up and be proud of how they played and represented their countries.

I agree with this, while I understand it is now more of a money grab, it's not fair to the other nations to have it held in Canada so often compared to the other countries hosting. I think $ plays a big part of this as they figure Canada has the support to host it and make money off it, but it does lose a bit of it's luster due to the cost and having it on home soil so often. If they only hosted it every 4-6 years, it would drive people to spend the money to see the event as they won't get a chance for another 4-6 years.

It's just sad as this tournament became "corporatized" just like the Memorial Cup and all they care about is $. Hell, there are talks that the US teams here in the PNW will never host the Memorial Cup again because you have to bid to host the MC. The teams in Everett, Kent, Portland, Spokane, and Tri-Cities cannot compete with the teams in Canada. Everett and Kent have two of the newest, nicest rinks in the WHL that would be awesome host buildings, but no way they are getting into bidding wars and spending millions just to host it.

I'd also add that the recent host cities in Canada aren't cities where junior hockey is the biggest game in town. Outside of Saskatoon/Regina in 2010, there's been a parade of NHL cities hosting. That's not to say NHL cities should be excluded from hosting, but I'm guessing if you put that tournament in London, Quebec City, Halifax (Hey we pretty well filled the rink in 2003 for every game ;)), and Saskatoon among others, ticket sales would be much different. Granted, they'd be priced different, but I think the market they choose certainly matters in that regard.
