He pulled it and swapped the patch before scanning it, that way there would be no before/after evidence. He slipped up when he didn't take the patch material into consideration. He did have us going for a while though..

He replied over at Beckett saying he's going to send it to UD.

Does he expect us to believe that of all 88 patches, 87 were real and 1 was fake?

As mentione before, the fabric is more consistent with this:

That's what I'm saying, just because he says he is sending it to UD, doesn't mean he is. It's just a way out...

How do they swap the patch without hosing up the card to do it?

Sometimes it's easier to separate the card alng the SIDES then glue it back together... I've never really looked at the sides of a Cup card to see if it's possible or not.

I just murdered a worthless baseball patch card just to see how it's done. I don't know how they can do that without destroying the card. It looks to be done in 3 separate sections. Image (top), very thin cardboard layer, then a recessed "tray" with the patch in it all glued together. The "tray" piece is solid and no layering to it.

Looks to me (at least with the carcass I have here) that the only way to do this sort of thing is to somehow peel the top 2 layers back, swap the patch, and glue it back together. I'm here to tell you I was being careful and just destroyed this thing.

Only other idea that comes to mind is some sort of cardboard game of "Operation". Only thing is, I don't see the red nose on the thing to buzz when you touch the sides.

I would think that card companies would look into ways to prevent this.

Hmmmmmm.....you guys really think this patch is really up to no good!!
A friend of mine is thinking of grabbing it and now I`m thinking I should let him know something might be up!! Is there any info about this guy to make him a bit shady...Has he ever altered patches before or something done anything else..

He scammed us at gamebreakers for $375. He never sent our cards. That's why he's no longer a member here

Maybe they use a scalpel.. might be sharp enough to cut away the patch without tearing the card to pieces. Even if they make a mess under the swatch while cutting away the new swatch would cover it up anyway.

His name is blair i believe and he is from Winnipeg. I have had a few painful deals in the past on other sites. Needles to say he is trouble.

I recall reading about him on a few different sites, now that you mention it. THanks for the heads up!

I believe there were 99 patches on these particular cards ;)

I just sat back and watched this whole thing, and have to say you guys as a whole took very little time to come up with some pretty legitimate conclusions, I'm impressed

Ok just to play devils's advocate without knowing or being involved in any deals with this person.

In order to be involved in this hobby as a scammer it means he has an interest in hockey cards which means he most likely buys boxes, right? Fair to say? So it is not impossible that he pulled this, right?
Finally, if you pulled a kane card like that from an expensive box......or bought a plain one with intent to switch patches.........would you really do it?? I mean one crease or whatever would ruin the value of even the single color patch so kind of a big gamble to make a little profit.
On second thought didn't people do it with Crosby patchs at one point?

Mob mentality.....sad.
Blair breaks CASES,yes CASES of every new release.
Now some of you are slandering him as a patch faker when the worst thing he's done is be a real SLOW shipper and slow to communicate!!!!
Whats wrong with you people???
