It is an interesting topic. I have a different take on this. I don't regret anything really. I also don't have FOMO so as long as i enjoy this daily, there cant be any regrets from me personally.

This brings up bad memories.... Joe will remember this...EBay.. leaf...Bob Clarke stick piece card... possibly lumber kings or superlative.. but it has a full vintage Dave Schultz auto on it in perfect condition... plus Clarke and Dupont .... Joe spots it...sends me the link.... I only noticed the Schultz auto.... immediately hit the snipe ... as the auction ran down I was still quite abit up on the bid... though not as much as I was willing to spend... I thought, I’ll let it go... well guess what... yep! Should have topped it up.... if anyone sees that card come up again... feel free to let me know... lol!!! Cheers!!! Paul!!!

With the pandemic hitting me hard since October, I sold some of my Gretzky collection at the then going rate. Now the cards are selling for double to triple what I sold them for.
Then I sold my two biggest McDavid cards to restart my business...made good money but I regret it every day I see someone selling a similar grade online for major money. I will regret it even more in the years ahead.

I'll have to think of some more, but I can think of one major regret surrounding a card that did eventually end up in my collection.
There's a number of stores in my area called Vintage Stock. Used to be great places to pick up any number of older items: toys and figures, records, comics, books, and if course, cards. Used to be one of the few places I could get hobby boxes of hockey in Oklahoma and since their clientele was often focused on other nerdy fair, it was a great place to pick up affordable singles when they would end up busting the loose packs that didn't sell.
The main Vintage Stock I would visit with my father had a tall glass showcase shelf they would display their higher range cards in. At one point, when I was much younger, around 2000, they had an Inkredible of Maurice Richard and a Level 2 Inkredible of Tretiak on display. I think they were asking for about $100 on the Rocket and $80 for Tretiak, but my father and I never bit on them for some reason. Eventually, those showcase shelves got filled with things like special editions of video games as they moved their focus away from cards and we figured those two autos had been long bought.
Fast forward about 13 years and all Vintage Stocks in the area were made to consolidate their remaining card stock to one central location, which would be the one that would still sell a limited selection of boxes. I check it out, and my jaw drops. There they are - the Rocket and the Tretiak autos. Not only that, but the a Rocket is about $30 bucks and the Tretiak even less.
Too good to be true? You betcha! They had apparently sat directly in the sun in that damn showcase for so long that the signatures had been affected. The Richard was faded, but still legible, so I grabbed it immediately. The Tretiak signature and hand numbering was completely gone. Such a tragic waste! I'm happy to have the Richard, though it's unfortunate that it isn't in pristine shape.
My other biggest regret is probably passing on numerous chances to grab a Dryden FT Fingerprint Swirl Auto at a $275 price point some years ago. No idea what I was thinking.

I thought that Ovechkin was going to be a star player. I remember picking his YGs up for $60-75 each. I had 10 of them and then someone offered me a cool grand for them. I mean how could I pass up a thousand dollars. I can say that I made a profit so I was really happy at the time. Little did I know what they would be worth a decade or so later.

Gretzky OPC RC PSA 8 for around 5K I think. This was a few years back, card looked like a 9 and someone has probably bumped to an 8.5. Also sold 50+ other HOF RC's in that sale, including a centered B Hull.
No regrets, we needed the moola at the time and family over cards all day every day. But I would love to have those back and take them to the grave with me.

I was buying the Ovechkin YG Buyback 2/2 and figured I shouldn't have so much invested in him, thought it would be prudent to sell off a couple of cards I had multiple copies of. I still have several, but I think I moved a few around $2,500, and now that's closer to a ~$15k card.
There was also a few Ovechkin FWA BGS 10s for sale around that time. I was able to get one for $3k. I balked at the price; I had just bought a fairly high end card and figured I'd have time to pick up another.
It's pop 23, and by the time I finally landed one (early 2021), it was ~ 10x the price lol

Hind sight is always 20/20, and yeah I too had many Ovechkin YG's and like 5 McDavid's 4 or 5 Matthews. Do I regret moving them when I did, nope not at all, that is the way things go. At the same time, about 2 years ago I started buying ever Lemieux RC I could get my hands on. Needless to say, I have turned a VERY nice profit the last couple of months and still have 10 or so that need graded, on top of the PSA's that are in the PC. So yup it goes both ways, all a matter of whether you are happy with what you got in return.
Been there done that, don't need to relive it multiple times...

I need to go back to 05-06 to start mine. My first box of SP Authentic that year and I pulled a Crosby FW, 2nd box had a 1 color Crosby FW Auto patch. Sold the patch to go towards wedding expenses, so money well spent. Graded the FW ( 9.5 ) and sold it 4-5 years ago for $1100.00

I had plenty of Crosby rookie cards back in 2014 or so. Young Guns. Black Diamond. SPx. Ultra regular/gold. Artifacts. All the mid-end ones. Sold them all individually over a short time period. Pretty choked about it.
