Hey all,

I figured I'd post up one of these threads before the new year. So, what are your hobby-related goals/resolutions for 2020?

To start, I'd like to share my 2019 goals from last year's thread:

1) Continue to pickup what I like and enjoy this hobby! - Done! Aside from my staple PC's, I've managed to pickup a few other cards here & there to enjoy this hobby in other ways.

2) Keeping an eye out to help my fellow collectors with their PC's when/where I can. - Done! I've had many members reach out to me regarding some cards, so it only seems fitting to do it for others when I can.

3) Get the Enroth PC to 85% completion at some point and (hopefully) keep it. - Done! I was lucky enough to achieve this one and I was able to keep it up the rest of the year. Currently sitting at around 87% completion for the Enroth PC.

4) Keep looking for reasonable prices on the Upper Deck 300 Win Club cards for my set. I'm currently at 11 cards, and I would love to get that number up to 16. - Done! It came right down to the wire, but I'll call that a win in my books.

And now here are my hobby-related goals for 2020:

1) Surpass 500 total cards for my Jhonas Enroth collection. I'm currently sitting at 477 cards in total (with duplicates included) and I hope to reach this milestone as soon as I can. The only rule I'd like to implement is that I'd like to try and reach this milestone without having to add too many of the same duplicate cards if I can help it down the stretch, as I don't like to add exact duplicates unless they are unique in some way (graded, signed, jersey numbered, etc). So we'll see how many new cards I'm able to add this year.

2) Get up to 20 cards for my Upper Deck 300 Win Club set. I have 16 right now, but I feel this one may be a little tough at the prices I'm looking for.

3) Have fun. It sounds cliche, but a hobby isn't a hobby unless there is some fun involved.

2020 goals.........

To keep my passion alive for the cardboard

Keep a positive outlook on the future for the hobby

Regular visits here on HI as this site keeps reminds me why I enjoy collecting

2019 saw a year of not buying much wax due to the fact of being bored or so disappointed with a lot of the releases( Chronology comes to mind).I'm putting it out there that things change in 2020

One thing is for sure is I'll work on some older sets....12-13 Panini Classics and 04-05 ITG Franchises master sets. Also I'll enjoy picking up low ends for the Newfoundland collection to keep my interest going.

What I said last year:

2019, my focus will be on quality over quantity. I'll hunt for Odjick and higher-end Habs and Nordiques, work on finishing a few sets I started and reorganize my collection. I might be looking to move the lower-end part of my Oilers PC and a bunch of my traders. I slowed a lot on boxes, not much really catches my eyes, I'm mostly looking for discounted boxes from popular sets and retro breaks.

Well, I did buy some awesome cards for my Odjick collection, and got a few Habs and Nordiques cards too. My wantlist for cards from old sets shortened a bit. I started to reorganise my collection, a lower-end part of my Oilers PC is now on my tradelist, and I did sell a bit of my traders, but I still have work to do on this side. I had fun with discounted boxes and stayed away from group breaks. I did put a large order last week on cheap Pacific and ITG boxes, it will be fun!

For 2020:
-continue the hunt for nice Odjick, Habs and Nordiques, with a specific focus on licenced ITG cards
-continue moving the lower-end part of my Oilers PC to my tradelist
-reorganize some binders and move some star inserts from my PC to traders
-maybe sell some stuff
-have fun with the discounted boxes coming in
-maybe try my luck on UD1 20-21 retail wax for a Lafreniere YG. If he's as good as we hear, UD1 20-21 will get expensive quickly

I am hopeful the hobby will start to rebound with regard to hockey. It's been very weak with the rookie crops of late and the lack of buzz with the UD monopoly.

I personally will be SSDD, but that's because I won't get back in to any significant hockey collecting until the monopoly ends. Even though I didn't LOVE Panini, I got excited when they were putting things because it was fun to have choices! Both companies created some terrific cards and pushed each other for the consumer dollar.

I tried really hard to get interested again of late; I look at every single sell sheet and checklist, trying to find something to grab me, finding something to LIKE enough to chase. It's really a shame it hasn't happened as hockey is a great sport and I still enjoy trading cards. The one, the ONLY thing I might still do within the hockey segment, is chase some older Kings cards from the 90s, namely Gretzky in an LA uniform.

That all aside, my sons still dabble, baseball only, and have found some really awesome things to pursue and projects to work on with me. That makes me happier than anything, spending time with them if I do spend time on a hobby, and hopefully one day we will come back to hockey.

I wish all of you all the best with the hockey segment, and I'll continue to chime in here and there and enjoy all your posts as you chase your hobby goals!

I didn't have a hobby goal for this year, and it's probably a good thing. I didn't do much after May for personal reasons.

For 2020, I'd like to see if I can have fun collecting again. I do not have any disposable income for buying anymore unfortunately, but perhaps start to dabble more in trading? I've done pretty much only sales the last 6 months, but none of that money was able to go to the hobby. To be honest, I haven't really missed it all that much, either. I still like coming to the boards and seeing the joy of everyone else with the pieces they've been adding to their own collection. It's a bit refreshing to be able to just go through my email and delete the daily ebay emails. No worrying about getting this card or that card as soon as they come out. I have plenty going in my life to cause me stress without having to add a hobby to the mix!

Happy 2020 everyone!

Attend as many Tim Horton's trade nights as I can, highlight of my 2019 collecting year by far

Keep picking away at my Bobby Ryan want list, 92 cards needed

Surpass 1200 total Gretzky cards, need 13

Finish off my 80's OPC stickers collection, need 5 stickers to complete all 9 books

Pick up a Nick Suzuki young guns

Finish my Parkhrust gold Bobby Ryan, this should be done in 2019 but may take a bit longer. 1000 base cards what an awesome idea Upper Deck EDIT: DONE after spending 5 days to get the first 700 cards I had a guy send me 1300 bobby ryan base today so I now have two Ryan golds......this was awesome!!

I was surprised to see that I didn't do a goal/resolution last year, but I did manage to knock off my biggest goal for the previous handful of years, which was to land a zetterberg fwap. So that was cool.

My goals for this coming year is to

- Land Ilya Kovalchuk 01/02 UD SPA Sign of the Times /25 with Pavel Bure & Alexei Kovalev. For a long time now that has been my 2nd most wanted card, but now with the Zetterberg fwap out the way, this kovalchuk card takes the mantle for #1.

- If not land, then at least find a picture of Kovalchuk's autographed and non autographed 01/02 UD Playmakers Bobble Head featured in his home WHITE jersey.

- To land a Datsyuk jersey numbered rookie for my collection. Out of all my main pc's, he's the only player I don't have a single jersey numbered Rookie card for.

- To try and trade more of the excess in my collection, toward my main pc's.

- Add at least one card /25 or less for all of my main pc's

- Any sports card I purchase has to meet one of the criteria: Rookie year /100 or less, or jersey numbered rookie.

2020 hobby resolutions:

1) Genuinely enjoy the hobby - make sure I’m enjoying it and it’s relieving stress instead of creating additional stress. Make sure I restrict how much time, money, and space at home is used to support the hobby. This past year has been very difficult as I’ve gone through a separation/divorce and ex has moved our girls back to our hometown, so I’m looking forward to the hobby having a healthy impact on my life.

2) Lock down my collecting “rules/parameters”. I think I’m pretty well there but need to execute on ideas that I’ve been mulling over. If I don’t have this locked down I find myself spinning and always changing my mind and accumulating cards that no longer fit into my collection.

3) Tidy up hobby related mess in my home. Send all cards with any value that don’t fit into my collection to COMC. The rest of the cards - discard or give away. Also need to tidy up all hobby related supplies.

4) Catalog/scan each card in my collection. This has been needed for years now and I’ve been neglecting. This needs to change in 2020.

5) Open a case at some point this year. I’ll select an elusive card I’ve been chasing and purchase a case of that product. Hope I pull something I’ve been searching for and sell the rest to recoup what I can. Never opened a case so I’m excited to get this one done.

6) Do something kind for a fellow collector. Will be keeping an eye open to help someone out.

1) As I posted elsewhere, I'd like to create a nameplate of my last name with autographed cards.

2) Get organized - I moved just over 2 years ago, and most of my collection has simply been sitting around. Now that I've settled in, it's time to get some shelves and/or display cases to store everything.

3) I've got all Scott Stevens cards through 1993-94, so I'd like to grab what I'm missing from 1994-95. This consists of 32 cards.

4) I like trying to put together master sets (or as close to it as possible). A few years ago I started retroactively with 1990-91 Upper Deck. I'm about halfway through 1994-95 and 1995-96, so I'd like to make as much progress as I can.

5) Speaking of master sets, I'm 94 cards away from completing 2000-01 Aurora, so I'd like to make a lot of progress with that as well. There are still enough out there to grab right now before I just have to wait and get lucky for the remaining cards.

I'm missing 11 non- 1/1 Ranford cards from 2015 or older (it was 12 until just recently). Would love to add a couple of these.

Oilers collection:

I have autographs from 509/511 players, that dressed for at least one game from 79-80 through 14-15. The only two I'm missing are emergency backups.

I have 55/65 players that dressed for at least one game from 15-16 through last night.

Have a secondary group of NHLers that includes: Oiler Draft picks that played for someone else (but not Edmonton), 1979 Expansion picks (that did not suit up for the Oilers), and "pictured as an Oiler on an NHL trading card, but never actually played for them": I'm at 31/34 for those groups combined.

WHA: I have 68/125 players that did not play an NHL game for the Oilers.

I also have a list of 51 "management" or "coaching" types that I'd like to have signatures from. I'm currently at 31/51 for them.

All total: I have 694/786 autographs I've identified as "I want one!". That number (of course) will grow as more players make their Oiler debut..... I'm sure I'll break the 700 mark before too much longer. 750 might be a little too difficult, but I'd like to think I can break 730 before the end of 2020.

I`ve stopped have certain goals around 5 years ago . I`d like continuing to enjoy Looking at the Collection , being able to add a Card that I like here and there , doing a couple box breaks perhaps . I reduced my Collection to basically 4 themes now ( Leaf ITGU ; 17-18 Stickwork ; 13-14 ITG Stickwork ; Tampa Bay Lightning Cards ) , and that feels pretty good now .

So I just reviewed the 2019 thread and apparently I didn't make any goals/resoultions, lol. For this year, I'm going to continue focusing on my Nathan Horton and Matt Johnson collection , trying hard not to overpay for Nathan Horton cards.

For Ovechkin, I'm going to try and continue to exercise patience and wait for the cards to surface on COMC, and only buy off ebay if it's under auction format. I also try to wait for the cards to be released for 6 months before I start chasing them.

Selling, in the last year I managed to essentially send everything worth anything off to COMC and have had decent success in turning cards I have no interest in to PC cards.

I still love visiting HI daily and really enjoyed participating in secret santa and continue to enjoy seeing everyone had to their collections and all the great cards that are out there. I will continue to post my monthly show and tells to show off my collection and allow me to keep track of what I've added.

I would like to get my ovechkin collection added to my database as well this year.

I hope everyone is successful in 2020 and can accomplish all of their goals.

2019 goals:

1. Finish my MVP PC, currently at 72/100, or at least get to 90%. I got to 90 - the last 10 cards are either ridiculously overpriced or nowhere to be found. As such, i lost a bit of the drive to finish this set but never say never!

2. Add 1 big HOF RC such as Bobby Hull, Henry Richard or jacques Plante etc... I was able to pick one big rookie. I acquired Bobby Hull early in the year

3. Get to 90 HOF graded rookies, currently at 81. Funny enough, I did get to 90 HOF rookies but ended up selling the PC to Jeremy so that's as good as it got for me.

2020 goals:

1. Keep going with my 1959 Parkhurst set...maybe get to 25. Currently at 18.

2. Be completely caught up with my retired Canvas set (currently at 104/105)

3. Add a couple of Gretzkys to my gretzky PC

4. Start an auto and/or memorabilia PC

2018:
1) organize my cards since coming to CT 3 yrs ago. I have been doing this all along but have too many piles recently and unsorted broken boxes sitting around. started sorting the slabbed and sleeved out but another season started so that was a bit delayed. I did box up 10-800ct boxes, but then I bought more cards so I have to reorganize some of that. (2019 update: 5 years in CT, nothing has changed, still sorting, still need to organize, create too many piles with same product in different places in apt. Keeping up on /100 or less list in spread sheet form, that’s about it.)
2) record my “goods” in flickr...also finish transferring from the bucket & reorganize the recorded collection.hahaha! Good one!!! (2019 update: lol, hasn’t happened yet. One of these days.)
3) post on HI more. I have so many breaks that I have not posted since Nov ‘16 that I have a box and a half of the 1600 ct boxes that need to get recorded. That doesn’t include about 90% of the collection before that. Too many cards, not enough time. Lol see #2 (2019 update: one or two break posts...out of maybe 30 breaks. Yeah, need to work on that.)
4) make more trades/sales from my collection. I have some stuff that someone will want soon as I organize the sales will happen...(fingers crossed) (2019 update...one deal. Gotta start somewheres. Still sorting. Still need to post more on HI.)
5) stop buying stuff from previous years. Too many times do I buy boxes from stuff that I “stopped” buying, leading to reorganize boxes or starting a spreaded collection out of many boxes...At least I have started to number and create a method of what is in the boxes. It helps a little.it doesn’t help that one of the dealers I go to only has older stuff...btw, yes, I have some good hits from those, see upcoming posts for those...eventually (2019 update...yes, didn’t do it as much...yeah! Success!)
6) stop buying so much. Sacrilege statement, I know, but I must cut down to help better the other things in life. I think I cut down a little but made some better investments...less lower end & middle, more higher, like Ultimate and even bought a box of The CUP...but still buying older stuff (2019: bought more high end: ultimate, The CUP (3-box case), case of SPGU, some but less lower end, and mid end. Still like the SPGU, SPx brands too much. Sort of nice to hit Pettersson rc & canvas YG early from UD.)

For 2019: (rinse and repeat)

...2020: (rinse and repeat)

Sell EVERYTHING!!!!!

But have fun doing it. I really hope to give some very nice cards some new forever homes. I want to cut some great deals with some new members and get my feedback to 500!!!

I am down to the final 5 Kyle Wellwood cards to be at 100%. 4 of the cards I haven't seen since the sets were released and missed out on the last card
