Hey Everyone,

It's that time of year again! Another yearly thread to discuss our progress over the last year, and to list some goals for the new year in 2025.

If you want to find your goals from last year's thread, Please Click Here.

Here were my hobby goals for 2024 & ones I will continue to attempt in 2025:

1) Pickup 5 new 1/1's for the Jhonas Enroth card collection.

This was a lofty goal for 2024, but I managed to do a decent job and I picked up 3 1/1's for the collection for a grand total of 76. I will see if I can reach 80 1/1's this year.

2) Finish my UD A Piece Of History - Win Club set.

Nope! Going to keep on slugging away at this one. I was able to make some nice progress, but the Belfour still remains....

3) Have Fun

Yes, definitely! While this year was a slow on for me on the card front, it allowed me to slow down and appreciate all of the cards that I have been able to reel in over the years, while picking up some new cards I didn't think I would see. I was also able to continue co-hosting the Centre Ice Card Cast podcast, which has continued to be a lot of fun. Hoping for even more hobby fun in 2025!

So, what are your hobby related Goals & Resolutions for 2025? Please let me know below!

Happy Collecting,

Aaron

1. Find the last few Marleau’s I need/want so I can be done collecting his cards.

2. Find 1 or 2 new sets to build, probably 90’s shiny, but nothing set in stone yet.

That’s it, keep it simple.

My 2024 goals and progress:

Roy PC: Reach 90% on PC completion. SUCCESS!! I currently sit at 90.02% with a few more to add before the year is out.

Add one 1/1 to the Roy PC. Will keep going with this one each year! SUCCESS!! I added 6 printing plates in 2024

Pavel Bure PC: Reach 15% completion. N/A; I sold off my entire Bure collection early in the year to focus on other ventures.

Graded PC: Add 10 more graded rookies of HOFers/Future HOFers. FAIL! I think I only added 4 for the year.

2025 Goals:
Roy PC: Reach 91.5% completion. That'll take 45 new additions from where I sit today.

Add one 1/1 to the Roy PC. This may be fairly easy to meet, as there are some printing plates still listed that I'm watching. Hoping to add a stamped 1/1 in 2025.

Graded PC: Add 5 graded HOF rookies cards.

General four-sport PC: I sold my entire non-Roy PC in 2017/2018 to get engaged and buy a house. I'm looking to get back to 60% of what I had across the 4 major sports. I'm currently at 44.66% of the rebuild, and would need 312 total cards to meet that goal. This has been my biggest focus lately with the Roy PC slowing down.

2024:

1) Keep on collecting with Roger. Attend both expos with him. Make sure he continues to see the hobby for the fun it is and is suppose to be.

I WILL CALL THIS A SUCCESS, WE ONLY HIT THE SPRING SHOW AS HIS HOCKEY SCHEDULE DIDNT ALLOW US TO MAKE THE FALL ONE, BUT HE IS STILL VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT COLLECTING, HAS TRANSITIONED MORE TOWARDS BASKETBALL THAN HOCKEY AND ALREADY KNOWS MORE THAN ME ABOUT THE SPORT :)

2) Add 3 more Bobby Ryan Cards to the PC. very rare that I even see ones I need but here's hoping.

I HAVE GIVEN UP THE UNREALISTIC GOAL OF OBTAINING ALL NON 1/1'S......I SOLD OFF SOME HIGHER END AT WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A GOOD PRICE AND NOW AM JUST FOCUSING ON CERTAIN CARDS OF HIS, WHICH MAKES ME HAPPY AS I WAS CHASING MOSTLY LOW LOW PRINT RUNS AND WAS NOT GETTING ANY ENJOYMENT OUT OF THE PC

3) Finish the 78 OPC baseball set as well as the 76-77 OPC hockey set (currently 301/396)

I AM NOW AT 379/396 ON THE HOCKEY SET SO I WHILE I DID NOT FINISH THE SET I WILL CALL THAT A SUCCESS AND MANAGED TO FINISH OFF THE 78 BASEBALL SET :)

4) Keep plugging away at the various 80's Non Sports sets I am working on.

I KNOW I FINSIHED SOME STICKER SETS AND WRESTLING SETS....I NEED ONE MORE CARD FOR MY RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK SET AND MADE LITTLE TO NO PROGRESS ON MY STAR WARS SETS.

2025

Quite simply try and recover my lost love of collecting.....IMO UD has ruined the tim hortons release and made a set that is no longer affordable for my son and I to collect together. We have collected all 12 master sets up until this year, but this years set make up was just pure trash.....6 cards at 1 in 200 packs. There are no kids in my area collecting this set, there used to me tons and trading was so fun. I HATE this set!!!!!

Furthermore, I am a player collector. UD is turning into leaf and flooding the market with umpteen unnecessary parallels of every card. My son and I are Owen Sound attack fans and love to collect cards of players from our team. While our team is pure garbage this year, we have one of the better goalies in the league in Carter George. he has 95!!!!!! cards in the recently released team canada jrs....WTF. Admittedly, it is silly to try and collect all of one players cards but 95 cards for an 18 year old kid who has yet to play in the NHL!!!!!!

I have been collecting for 46 years now, and honestly I question if I should continue to do so. I know this is a me problem, but this is where i am at and dont know what direction to go moving forward

Goals for 2024

1) Adding more to the sharks PC. Let say 13,500 unique cards by the end of the year.
Failed this one, 13,252 and counting but have been focusing less on this lately

2) Add to the all-time sharks rookie/auto collection. Still need about 258 players auto and/or rookie card. Hoping to get that down to 200
Failed this one as well, have 238 left on the list but a lot of guys don't have an official auto card so I feel like it was a lofty goal to begin with

Goals for 2025

1) continue adding to my cup rookies wantlist. Would like to get it down to 10 or less, mainly leaving the bigger/rarer cards on there.

2) continue my Upper Deck sets. I'd like to complete all back to 2019-20 but we'll see if that can get done

3) continue my sharks collection in a more focused way

4) Get rid of a lot of the bulk I've been hoarding for the past 10-15 years

5) Have fun and stay focused on the cards I really want to add instead of aimlessly spending

Setting a lot more goals for myself this year but I think these are all very doable!
Always fun to go through the thread each year, thanks for posting!

Let's review the 2024 goals first.

Museum Goals:

1) Host a solo exhibition event at one of the venues which we have scouted out as being suitable for our purposes.

While we did host a pair of mini exhibitions at request, and we have been in discussions to host a full-size exhibition (think Star Wars Identities sized), those plans did not materialize in 2024.

2) Try to reach 27-27.5% of all goalies in NHL history into the archives (let's be realistic, I'd love to reach 50%, but that is still a long ways away).

SUCCESS! As of this date, we made it to 27.33% of all goalies in NHL history.

3) Keep finding enjoyment in the museum project and ignore the naysayers.

Easy success!

Card Goals

1) Continue our rapid card expansion through eBay and consignment as 2023 was a great year for us which saw us move many more cards than ever before.

Success! Both eBay (until the Canada Post strike), and our COMC consignments have been booming and I couldn't be happier.

2) Keep adding items to my personal card collection and have fun doing it.

Success! My "Signature Saturday" all-time goalie autograph collection has been growing at an amazing rate and it is a fun companion project to my museum's.

3) Only open boxes I enjoy and not just because "there might be $$$ in it".

Success! Other than the few times they have been on sale, or for a special occasion, I have cut down box breaks immensely to focus on museum items and single cards for the collection. I have also focused on boxes I like, vs boxes that "might get lots of viewers" on the YouTube channel.

2025 Goals

Museum

1) This may be bold, but try and get to 30% of all goalies in NHL history (only about 23 needed to get there so it isn't impossible).

2) The goal from 2024 continues to be to showcase our own LARGE event (small ones are fine, but large ones are where the money is at) and continue monetizing our passion.

3) Cross off a few more of our most sought after "one-star high priority" items for the collection!

Cards

1) Continue to crush it on both eBay and COMC.

2) Add more items to the goalie autograph collection.

3) Continue opening fewer and fewer boxes.

Goals for 2024?
1. Focus on my Whalers "Want List" which is at 53 cards. Realistically, if I can get that down to 40 I think I'll be doing very well. The majority of those needs are numbered to 25 or less.
SUCCESS! My Want List is now at 30 cards. Currently I'm experiencing new additions at less than a trickle pace

2. Continue to enjoy helping fellow collectors with my custom card work.
SUCCESS! Based on feedback from over 2,000 followers on IG, as well as many in-person interactions, it feels like the extra time and effort I put into my customs is appreciated

3. See if I can get to the National Card show for the first time!
FAIL - I was so close to going this year but ended up going to Ireland at the same time as the National. Perhaps next year?

4. My last one is from left field, maybe more of a dream vs a goal. I would like to start collecting a "Card Show" inventory with the long term goal of perhaps one day setting up at some of the larger shows.
SUCCESS ish- I did build it up a bit, sold most of that but going to build up again. Also, my custom cards allow me to present an appealing table at shows (again based on feedback from customers)

GOALS for 2025
1. Continue the custom card efforts, it really allowed me awesome opportunities on so many levels that I'm hoping that continues.
2. Get my Want List down to 25 or less....this is a long putt!
3. Begin the collection reduction initiative. I love this hobby, but it's time to start moving some stuff out. The Whalers collection won't be part of this initiative, but everything else will be!
4. Attend that National Card Show?
5. Attend Hartford Whalers Alumni weekend in Hartford

2024 Goals:

Pull Bedard Young Guns, Bedard Draft card from series one and Canvas Young Guns. And finally to pull a Bedard autograph

SUCCESS: Pulled several Young Guns and two series one Draft cards and two Canvas Young Guns plus several of his other rookie cards from the many products;

FAILURE: But totally failed on pulling one of his autographs and spent a fortune trying to do that. Total failure on the autograph as I could have bought several of his autographs for what I spent on wax trying to pull one, but I wanted to be able to say "I pulled one!" Just call me stupid!

2025 Goals:

1. To spend a faction of what I dropped in 2024 on the Bedard auto chase, so stop being stupid.

2. Finish UD series two and then extended

That's it, nothing great about 2025 that I want to add to my collection.

Posted December 2023 ......
TWO more EXPO in 2023 with a show in Montreal in May and able to reduce the inventory. I must back track and say that I have booked for the spring Expo rather than calling it "LAST as a dealer".

I must say for 2024 .......
Back to EXPO for the April and November EXPO shows. Also booked for Spring 2025 EXPO and the May show in Montreal, NO quitting YET!

Posted December 2023 ........
As for COLLECTING, I have added ONLY ONE Bobby Orr card to the PC and I am still attempting to finish off the 2015 UD Master Collection of Bobby Orr #/20 AUTO of 10 various colors.

I must say for 2024 .......
Bought / traded for a few Bobby Orr cards but ALL doubles. FAIED to add any to the PC and reasons. I still need card to complete the 2015 UD Master Collection set of 10 colored Orr cards.

Posted December 2023 .....
Definitely SPENDING less time on the boards and really enjoying the time away from the hobby which is still FUN to me.

I must say for 2024 .......
That I did PERIOD

Posted December 2023 ......
I did put some PC sets / cards out for sale @ Expo and I was able to sell one of the four sets. I am still maintaining my Bobby Orr PC intact with a few Howe, Beliveau, Lafleur, ITG ONE of ONE cards stashed away.

I must say for 2024 .......
$OLD the 3 other UD Ultimate Signatures sets @ November EXPO a few PC (Beliveau, Lafleur, Howe, ......) with no regrets and more to fly out the door in 2025.

Posted December 2023 ......
BUYING only fillers for current inventory and OPENING only 2023/24 UD1, UD2 and UD Extended.
WELL with little needs that I have, I hopefully will make some progress without over spending.

I must say for 2024 .......
Less UD1, UD2 and Extended breaks and spending less but buying a higher volume of low end fillers.

The SAME can be said for 2025!

ALL best to everyone in 2024 in achieving your GOALS and let's have FUN!

The 2024 Goals:

1) Refocus the PC and thin out the collection a little
SUCCESS - moved 131 cards from the PC this year while only added 31 new cards. Though there's a high likelihood I will bring something in by year end to offset that slightly...

2) Upgrade my Howe rookie
SUCCESS - went from a beat up, well loved, creased and tape covered SGC 1 to a sharp, centered, excellent eye appeal that shows better than the grade. All the more reason to collect the card, not the grade (if you do graded)

3) Stop prospecting and focus on PC players only
SUCCESS - didn't add any non-established rookie cards to the collection this year. Only modern rookies added were Makars (acetate yg, opc platinum arctic freeze and clear cut black amber auto) for that PC

4) Break even less wax (less than 5 boxes)
SUCCESS - currently at 4 boxes and two of those were raffle wins from UD at the National with one being golf (so let's be honest, that shouldn't even count!)

5) Keep having fun
SUCCESS - continued to branch out into other sports, added some new vintage rookies to the PC, attended the National. All in all, a fun year collecting!

Now for 2025:

1) Continue to thin out the collection for non-PC items to align with current interests
2) We'll swing for the fences on this one and go with add one of the following desired PC items: 1923 Morenz, 1933 Delong Gehrig or 1948 Leaf Robinson
3) Thin out the Makar and Caufield PC a little (175 total)
4) It's only a hobby, so keep it fun!

2024 goal(s):

I'm going to have some rather hefty personal, non-hobby goals in the upcoming new year, so I'm not sure how much time, energy, or funds I'll have to put towards cards. I'll dabble where I can, pray that the cards listed above show up at some point, and try not to let FOMO get the better of me.

This has been an extremely turbulent year for me. Things finally started to settle down for me in September, and I kind of rewarded myself by starting to get into a few group breaks in October. Totally let FOMO get the better of me, and overspent myself a little bit, so I've backed off a bit since. I also started going more into another previous hobby of mine, and gotten back into Magic: The Gathering. I started only doing Arena online, as it's free, but I started buying paper cards again as well. My nephew plays so I finally have someone to play with again, which has only further sparked my interest.

I didn't add too much into sets, but started picking up Caps pieces again as well. I'm way behind on those, though, so I have some catching up to do.

For 2025, I'm going to again try and finish up some of my older sets, so we'll see how far that goes. FOMO better stay away too.

2025:
Find at least one card each from my Sakic wantlist and my 13-14 Select Gold wantlist.

I don't usually do these because for the past number of years since my divorce, I've been a go with the flow kind of hobbyist, enjoying the connections and people, with the cards the common factor. The hobby is an enabler, not the core.

That said, I do need to get a number of things decluttered around the house... so I'll put out a goal this year (to have some accountability) to get rid of all extraneous cards in the house... this is the 20 or so 3200 count boxes of mostly commons that haven't been looked at in decades.

Not a lofty collecting goal, but it'll make me feel better to have it done! :D

And aside from that - continue enjoying the human element of the hobby.

Cory

My objectives for 2025:

-open my annual OPC box
-continue to look for Odjick cards that I don’t have
-prepare and send another lot to COMC
-make trades and have fun!

These were the goals for this year:

1. Get to 65 total 02-03 Crown Royale Klesla/Sanderson dual patch cards. I had a goal a couple of years ago of 75 but didn't come anywhere close. This seems more attainable with how many I currently have.

Failed but close - ended up with 61, they just don't show up too often

2. Land a copy of 00-01 Private Stock hobby Klesla RC #/155. Didn't see one this year but landed some other elusive Klesla cards, so hoping this one pops up next year.

Failed - never saw a copy pop up

3. Attend a show. I've never been to one and seems like I might enjoy it. I just find out about them too late so I need to plan and keep a better eye out for them.

Failed - had a chance to but then schedules got shifted so I missed my opportunity

2025 goals

1. I started a small Kamilla Cardoso collection this year, so I would like to continue to build upon that

2. My Mike Modano collection was left behind the last couple of years so I would like to bring that one back to focus, organized, and really see where I stand (this was a previous goal that I never realized)

3. I've had a lot of fun with baseball and football projects lately so I'm going to keep doing those. Probably do more junk wax rips, not expensive and fun to relive some memories.

My Klesla collection will always have a focus but cards do show up with too much frequency so I've branched out more but not to the point of overwhelming myself. Its still fun so that's my biggest goal is to keep that going.
