Dany Heatley requests trade

Oh, just wondering, even though Heatley asked for a trade, the trade clause will come in effect right? So he has some kind of control on where he goes? If Heatley denies the top 3 trade offers for Ottawa but is willing to take the 4th best trade offer for Ottawa, will Ottawa take the 4th best offer or will they tell Heatley to shove it and tell him to play for Ottawa till a deal works out for both him and the Sens?

I might have missed something but why all the talk about Oilers?

Heatley is Canada's all-time leader in goals and points for the World Championships and with 50 goal potential should be considered a top 10 in his position no matter how you look at it. With O'Sullivan and Cogliano Sens will have 8 centers next season and how many 3rd and 4th liners can share 20 mins of icetime?..it doesn't fill any function. Like you wouldn't trade one of you best pc-cards for a trio of duplicates.

I would be looking for a D-man who can conduct in powerplay and not a player like Gilbert who shoot 1 shot per game at most. I have no idea.. If Heater wants to Edm it might just happen for something as described earlier in the thread.

Talent wise Ottawa is not going to win (initially) many trades for Heatley, unless they pick up younger players like Gagner and hope they reach full potential. As another poster mentioned they are probably not interested in a 1 for 1 forward trade anyway so I would expect to see a solid player, excellent prospect, and a pick as a return. Possibly a mid level prospect too. Phaneuf for Heatley isn`t going to happen.

There are lots of teams with cap space that will welcome a 50 goal scorer if given the opportunity. I don't think it will be that hard to trade him at all, if that's what he wants.

For the Oilers talk...
1)Heatley is the type of player the Oilers need and Oilers have a number of offensive defensemen that Ottawa is needing. As a Oilers fan, I would trade Souray as a center piece to get him.

2)According to a Edmonton media guy, he claims that the Oilers are interested in him and will make contact with Ottawa for sure. There will make fans speculate what could be offered.

3)I`m pretty sure all the Oilers talks were from Oilers fans and more of a `what would it take to get him`.

The Oilers talk makes sense. They have been trying to throw money at a big name for a few years (Hossa, Jagr).

The Oilers need a Marquee player(spec. a forward). The best they`ve had since the days of Gretzky and Mess has been Ryan Smyth. Gagner has the potential but his softmore slump didn`t help his cause. Heatley is also close to being a local boy (although Calgary is much closer).

He wants to play in the west..How's San Jose Sound :D..Michalek & Cheechoo for Heatley..Big Joe/Setoguchi/Heatley sounds like a nice 1st line...

I think any deal involving SJ would have to include 1 of Boyle or Erhoff. I think the Sens will look for a offensive defensemen as a center piece of a deal. I think Boyle has a NTC but was born in Ottawa. What about...

Dan Boyle + Jonathon Cheechoo
for
Dany Heatley + Jason Smith

then trade
Michalek +
for
Souray +

Heatley replaces Michalek
Souray replaces Boyle and from the Oilers P.O.V., Oilers trade Souray because they sign JBO

I like making a deal with the Nucks

Heater for Bieksa, Hodgson and a #1/2.

Then they have some fun juggling all them forwards.

Lol, I wouldn't mind Hodgson coming to Ottawa but I don't see that happening and Ohlund would probably have to be in the deal.

I think if a deal with the Oilers happens it will include Gagner. They wont move Eberle IMO , gotta remember , the kid is only 20. If we start writing off guys who werent on fire at 20 there would be no Lecavalier , Iginla or Thornton. Just dont think Cogliano would be enough in that deal.

Probably right, may as well just sign him as a UFA

Though upon further review, we could definately use someone like bieksa

Yes the Oiler talk is there because they are about the only team in the West with the players Ottawa needs and in fact would be lookng for.

But the only defenseman the Oilers can trade to any team is Tom Gilbert, as both Souray and Visnovsky have NTC's. So you all may as well forget bringing it up. Even if Shelly waived his NTC, there is no way in heck that he is going to move even farther away from his family than he already is.

As for my proposal of Gilbert, POS, and Nilly in exchange for Gilbert, I am also certain many Oil fans (including myself) would be willing to add Cogliano to the mix. But I can promise you two things...1) The Oil are not going to trade Gagner for anyone...as he is the future of the franchise. Darryl Katz would fire Tambellini in one second flat for doing something as foolish as that.....and 2) The Oil are not going to trade their first round pick in addition to roster players. Believe it or not, but if the Oil do anything with their 10th pick, it will be trading it to move up in the draft...mark my words the Oil will select Scott Glennie at #10 or if the hockey gods are present will trade up to select Evander Kane (although that is a pipe dream!).

My point is, if the Oil and Sens plan on working a deal, Gilbert will be the big part of the deal, with likely Cogliano at the absolute most as the 3rd addition to sweeten the pot for Murray.
If you want to tell me that Murray would be banished for trading away a disgruntled player for Gilbert, POS and Cogs straight up or even adding Nilsson as a 4th, that is just insane thinking.

Sorry, but Murray WOULD be banished for that. Gilbert isn't near good enough a defenseman to get Heatley with only Cogs and Nilsson.
