Olympic Gold Medal GDT: Canada vs. USA

Less than five hours now! :)
I can't wait. I'm trying to ship my wife and kids off the the inlaws so that there are fewer interruptions :)

canada wins - awesome as they are obviously the home favourite

USA wins- awesome as it could only help the games exposure there

but its gotta be Canada .....

Well, there's no turning back now.
I don't think fatigue will be a factor for Canada. The crowd support should more than make up for that. Canada simply needs to play like they did against Russia and Slovakia (the first 50 minutes of the game anyway) and they'll be fine.
USA will be leaning on Miller HARD for this game. If he's up to the task, they'll be ok. If not, well, Canada wins in a walk.

Canada 4
USA 2

I can see either team winning. The big thing for Canada is to come out physical and shoot high on Miller. Tips, and shoot high. For the U.S.A. they've already done it once this Olympics, they need to have supreme confidence that they can do it again. Will be interesting to see how the game takes form. So excited right now I can barely contain it.

Reguardless of the outcome USA will hold the best record in the Olympic tournament and most likely the most goals scored in the tournament and at worst a 1-1 record against our neighbors to the north...USA already has won the gold medal with those stats in my eyes!!!!!...A best of 3 gold medal round would be great but highly unlikely for the future....Here's to a great game and a W for the stars and stripes!!!!!!!!!

About as perfect as statement you could make today.

Their is no greater glory than to accomplish what was thought impossible.

With that in mind, a Canada win on homeice would be pretty sweet. But a US win would simply be epic. Either way, I think hockey's popularity will only grow after today.

The unfortunate thing is if the US does win , it will be #1 on talk shows , and paper for a week or two , then completely forgotten. Hopefully hockey gets some new fans out of this regardless!!!

I hope Canada wins (more like pray) but if they do lose I am glad it is to the US team:beer:

I read this morning that it is predicted that 70% of Canadians will be tuned into the game. Just imagine that 70% of the population WOW!!!

All this could possibly do is start a flame war. Why bother with this post? Things were so nice up to this point...

I think he was just pointing out to Vancouverites that Kesler is a United States citizen afterall.:offtopic:

All I hope for is the best game in the last 30 years. I expect nothing less from a gold medal game in Canada between 2 neighbors. Im not saying this game will surpass the 1980 game, as it simply cannot. But it is certainly the biggest game since then.

Ive got a case of IPA's, a big screen TV, and a rack of ribs awaiting to commemorate this event......

Trust me it won't be completely forgotten....In the South, possibly.....Where I'm at in the upper east coast, Hells no....I got people at my job who don't watch sports in general going crazy over the US hockey team...Just cause Americans don't eat, sleep, breathe, walk, eat, breathe, sleep, eat, sleep, eat, breathe, walk, tear hockey doesn't mean we don't have passion for it....We might forget about it briefly while were working or caring for our families or paying the bills but as far as I know me and my communities down time is spent watching hockey this part of the year.

US better hope that Miller ate his wheaties this morning:)

Seriously though it should be a great, hard hitting game. Hopefully it will be what we all thought the Canada Vs Russia game would have been.

NHL needs USA to win today IMO to help the game in the states.

The NHL just needs a good game. They couldn't care less who wins. Remember this is the only Olympic event to be played at that time, anyone who's watching the Olympics will be watching this game.

I'll stick with what the Canada vs. Russia game was thank you very much ;)

The best the NHL can hope for is that it will be enjoyed by a lot of kids. I don't see it turning a ton of adults into NHL fans. Sure it might get a few but I doubt it. I think a Ovechkin - Crosby gold medal match up might have done more for that.

I think this game can affect a lot of young US kids and maybe influence them towards hockey similar to what Miracle on ice did. The US is pumping out some amazing young hockey players right now, being in the World Jr finals and now the Olympic gold medal game can only help them. Canada don't seem to have a problem getting young kids into hockey.
