Nabokov to NY Islanders?

After seeing what he signed for I didn't think we would have a shot at him but glad they tried. He might sign for Detroit in the off season if the Wings are done with Osgood we'll see on that one.

Good pickup for the Islanders. I cant see him staying there long term though, he will be a Red Wing at some point down the road IMO.

Just got a tweet from LeBrun - Nabokov will not report to the Islanders.

Interesting, guess he was only going to the Red Wings and nothing else...Isles don't have much options here.

Isles can either suspend him (He will not get paid) or put him back on waivers to the entire league again...Just suspend him and let him wait until the summer to get a contract...

That's surprising as his agent said he would report no matter who it was! I guess the Isles weren't included in that one..lol

Now honestly how many times can Nabokov do this and not report to a team? I mean it's ridiculous (the waiver thing). Is there some rule about how many times he can not report? Looks like a big waste of time if you ask me.

I hate players that think they are too good for a team or bigger than the game.

I'm not clear on whether the Islanders are on the hook for any $ if they suspend him.

Can someone help clarify this for me?

That's assuming that no one counted on the Isles to do the predictable thing and letting him through. Seriously - this team is in contention for a Top 5 pick, why possibly sewer the chances in trying to improve?

Since he has a NMC, he wouldn't be able to be sent down by any team that would've claimed him, but he does have the option of not reporting and not getting paid.

Absurd. Holland does all the legwork on the contract and the Isles scoop in and snag him. Maybe that was the plan all along. Sort of a wink, wink, I'll sign you this summer but we have to do this to be able to do that later.

nabokov signs a 4 year deal with a khl team and quits after 3 1/2 months. now he wants another shot in the nhl and he wont even report to camp with the team that claimed him. i have lost a lot of respect for nabokov in the last year.

Did he quit St. Petersburg though? Sounded like it was a mutual parting of ways there. It's not like the NHL doesn't acknowledge the KHL contracts in the same manner that the KHL doesn't respect a signed NHL contract? If he was still considered a contracted player for St. Petersburg, Nabokov would be ineligible, period.

And as far as playing for the Islanders is concerned, can't fault a guy for not wanting to go to a place where it's a gong show.

I don't undersand the whole mid season free agent waiver thing. Obviously a player signs with a team for a reason so why should other teams have a chance to pick him up? It doesn't make sense to me.

Rules are rules, until they are changed. Hope he reports to give some stability to the Isles, not like it will make a lot of difference, just won't ruin the prospects. If he doesn't report I hope he is gone for good, have no use for those who are too good for the team that gets them like Lindros and Quebec.
