so once in a while i do these longer story posts, i thought some others might be interested in a newb selling on COMC

a couple of years back, Jeremy had the owner (i think) of COMC on Sportscards Live. he was getting hammered on shipping questions as they were 9 months plus behind and I remember thinking he was insane saying they would have their backlog cleaned up in 3-6 months. The focus seemed to be on listing cards, not shipping sold items and i basically stopped even looking at them as an opportunity to purchase from. I dont know when they caught up, but i do know Dec 16, 2022 I had a shipment that i requested under regular shipping arrived Jan 12 2023. from my perspective shipping issues fixed

Now to selling, I know Ameet and Jeremy and others have been doing this for years, and I have a ton of cards that were worth selling but never made it on to my ebay free listings. Ameet happily answered some of my questions and helped me feel more confident about the process. So i went through them, the goal was 300 cards for a test. I ended up with 305.

i checked for cards that had sold in the last year using terapeak and 130 point with sales over $4USD and under $75. My next filter was less than 3 of the same card currently on COMC and pricing that i could be the lowest by at least $1 or 10% whichever was greater.

Now the premise for this is i want to sell these cards, but they are more than $1-2 bin cards. Copies have sold in the last year, so there is some interest. I felt selling them required having them listed constantly, but that wouldnt work on ebay for me. Im not prepared to do shows and I wanted to try out the system

the regular processing rate of .50 per card made sense for me. 4 months to process....$1 each gets you 2 week turnaround, but these have sat for years, even 10 years or more in some cases and i wanted to minimize my costs on the shipment.

here is the funny thing, my order arrived Mar 16, and i received an acknowledgement email the same day. My first card was processed Apr 10 and I have 2 left as of today. So just over 2 months for basically full processing.......super happy. They typically showed up in groups of 20 or so sometimes every other day

The system is fantastic in terms of inventory management, tells you how many competing items, exact prices etc. I had done research ahead of time so it was simple to add prices in and then save for sale. I am not accepting offers, i have the lowest price on the site for every current card and may be a little lower than the sold ebay item again remembering only one may have sold and many were listed. If someone is buying, i want it to be mine!

Ive already sold 41 cards for $336 and i consider this to be free money going forward, shipment was about $60 through fedex, .50 per card to process/list, so im around 150 there. Sales are a 5% fee i think , then 10% more at cashout or you can just keep the credit to buy other items

Love this system, i will be looking through the boxes for all cards that should sell if priced correctly and not bother with ebay anymore.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to reach out, but I am VERY satisfied with this first crack at it

I am glad it worked out. I have over 50,000 cards there and its been the best thing for me. My focus is on my kids and my family instead of cards. With two young boys playing high level hockey, I am on the road 4-5 times a week AND I am their coach too. So cards aren't something I can afford to spend time on. COMC helps me immensely. They are the best solution for a guy like me.

Have fun there and try to not spend all your money that you make HAHAH.

Do you allow them to cross post to Ebay? I do - they take a bit bigger percentage in final cost (they are BIN listings) but it gives huge exposure, and I've had times I've sold a card to someone on Ebay despite not having the lowest priced card on COMC.

Definitely a worthwhile endeavor, especially with strategic uploading like you've done.

It helps people find stuff that is listed on COMC as well. I've purchased a few things on COMC I've found via eBay searches since I sometimes forget to check COMC regularly.

I just went through a similar process, though my submission was about 1/2 the size. My avg value is probably a bit lower, but on the plus side I dropped them off at the Edm Expo so I saved any shipping cost. I also avoided submitting anything sold through epack, since that depresses prices so badly.

I hope my processing & sales experience works out as well as yours!

Thank you for sharing your experience with COMC. I accumulated so much stuff, it would be a good idea for me to start selling there, maybe at fall when the weather is not so nice and people start thinking of hockey again.

Thank you! I have another question: is there a way to set firm prices so that when someones click on your card to buy it, there's nothing to do on the side of the seller to complete the transaction?

Yep, if you set it so that you're not accepting offers, you won't have to do anything on your end after you've priced your cards.

Thanks for sharing! Just as much as you love selling on there, I love buying from COMC. One day, I might sell too.

I had a couple questions for whoever knows: as a seller, do you know how many views your card gets... A) on the general card i.e. 1990 Score #265? and B) YOUR 1990 Score #265 you are selling?

Also, do sellers know which members are clicking on your cards, OR, have added your card to their WATCH LIST and/or CART?

Out of complete curiosity for those that sell on COMC, I'm wondering what the contingency plan is if say you were hit by a bus tomorrow? I don't use the site much but I do see that some have hundreds of thousands of cards listed there.

If I get hit by a bus my cards on COMC will be the least of my worries.

never selling on ebay again... comc all the way

- cheaper
- they handle shipping anywhere
- they handle all listing details (photos/description/condition)
- they dont treat sellers like trash
- plus they will sell on ebay for you

ebay blows for selling cards

only advantage(s) ebay has
1- market reach is bigger
2- takes 2-16 weeks from when they receive your item to list it

I'm wondering, do you have success moving small inserts and parallels on COMC? I have loads of older cheap cards, including a lot of Pacific cards, I'm wondering if they would move over there, or stay in inventory forever.

I’ve sold tons of stuff that wasn’t sellable through eBay. For the lower end stuff the critical issue is always having it listed. My lower items only got listed once in a while with eBay free listings.

My method to success net 2 k usd up at this point after shipping fees etc etc is this. Has the card sold in the last year on eBay. If yes keep going. How many are on comc, if it’s three or less and am I willing to accept a buck or 2 less than the lowest listed item. IF yes to those, I send it to them. You can sell an item if there are a ton listed but you have to be prepared to low ball the hell out of the price.

Overall I am super happy with my experience.

Any other questions, feel free to reach out

I have over 2000 low-end traders sitting in my boxes. For a bunch of them, I would be thrilled to get 25 cents net per card. It would be nice to move them and buy a graded Roy rookie for my PC with the sales. I accumulated way too much stuff over the years.

It's nice to know people like you are having nice success selling stuff on the platform. Thank you for sharing about your experience.
