Show me those speared White Whales!!

I try not to keep an active list of white whales, there would be several to hunt for, and I wouldn't want to be actively searching for them every day. My collecting journey is much more relaxing these days. But when a card comes along that sends my love for this hobby off the charts, I consider that to be a white whale acquisition. The "G" from Panini Prime came to me from eBay in 2023, and completed a nameplate that I had started in late 2012. It is now framed and on the wall in my den.

The Hardware Heroes is a card that I never thought I would own. I saw them on eBay back when they were released almost 2 decades ago, although I don't remember if I ever saw one of the Iginla versions. This card came to me at a local show late last year. An older gentleman had it in his showcase, and I couldn't believe my eyes. Possible the biggest white whale I will ever have.

Hey man, nice to see you here on HI. And yeah that card was a tough one to track down! Still looking for that Gold Spectrum /5 to complete the 8-card rainbow.
Quoting one of my own posts from 2018.

Finally found this Gold Spectrum /5 to complete this fun rainbow all these years later. Amazing! Been searching for this card since 2011.

Huge congrats! No better feeling in the hobby than tracking down a whale. Patience paid off!

And no worse feeling than seeing your White Whale pop up for the first time in a decade, only to have the 2nd Place bid when you thought you had it by at least $1000 CAD (3rd Place was $1300 lower than me even). I'll probably never see another one.

Oh, the heartache and frustration! :mad:
