Fun Q of the day. How much will Auston Matthews Young Guns rookie be priced at if he gets drafted by the following teams (my prediction in US$ beside team)

Leafs - $250
Canucks/Canadiens - $200
Flames, Jets, Oilers - $175
Sabres, Coyotes, Blue Jackets - $150

I would agree... as a fan of neither team. I would value MTL over TOR as far as his potential YG goes.

I think the Leafs value will be higher. At least the Habs have had some collectable rookies the last 5-7 years - Subban, Price, Gally, Galchenyk. Who have the Leafs had? MAYBE Kadri, even to a lesser extent Rielly.

I'd take Kadri off that list, he didn't sell well out the gate compared to what a #1 pick would do

I seen the highlights of Matthews on YouTube. He's the real deal! I wouldn't be shocked if he turns out better then McDavid.

Speaking to no one in general, after all of the heavy pimping that it has received, McDavid's YG is a $140 card now...do you REALLY think Matthews' YG will be a $200+ card?

I think it will be a $75-$100 by the time the dust settles (meaning, after the release of hobby and the myriad retail releases, e-card releases, etc., etc.).

He was asking opening prices.

To me a lot of that will depend on how he starts off scoring. If he is scoring a fair amount and is playing for Toronto or Montréal I can see him selling for more than McDavid out the gate. I fully expect him to end up for less than McDavid unless he is better than expected.

McDavid is a generational talent. While Matthews looks good, he's been touted as Eichel-level prospect

His YG would max out at $150 in my opinion if he's a Leaf

Assuming it's got a smaller print run, perhaps, but if all things were equal, it wouldn't even sell for half of what McDavid's stuff does. Austin isn't even remotely approaching a generational talent. Heck, he may not even be drafted first overall. The hype is minimal for him compared to what the hype was for McDavid or even Eichel.

If the Oilers get YET ANOTHER #1 pick and Auston Matthews. first off I hope that team folds, because enough is enough.....

There isn't another team on the planet who could suck more in a row than the Oilers, they shouldn't even be allowed to pick #1 until they make the playoffs....

I can't even think of the prices now, just the thought of Edmonton pick #1 has my blood pressure off the charts...

I would say it opens around $100 if with a Canadian team, $60-80 if non-Canadian team which is where the top YG opens up every year. McDavid is an anomaly and Matthews will not be anywhere close to him at the beginning unless he is top 5 in league scoring when the YG comes out. I compare Matthews to a guy like Patrick Kane who was #1 pick and his YG was only in the 60-80 range when it first came out.
